I use d teflon one as well. I agree it seems to quieten down for awhile only before d noise comes back. Initially was quite becux of d grease dat came wif d chain. Last tym i used maxima chain wax. Seems to last a little longer but be warned of build-up.

hi naim, i see...

so d only way 2 kill d noise is often clean chain & re-apply chain wax?

based on ur experience, maxima chain wax is d best option so far?

yes. naturally the way the bike is setup, i tink its normal for sum chain noise. u can see all the phantoms on the road pass by you, surely can hear sum chain noise. only way to minimize is to lube and clean often. nt only chain quiter, but ur chain last longer as well.

in fact, engine oil is the best lubricant so far. to me, the chain seems quietest wif it. however, jux like the teflon lube, its seems to be removed really quickly, like at most 2-3 rides. i might be trying gear oil next. seems to be thicker and less fling off than engine oil.

it depends what ou want the oiler to do..

lubing only.....minimal throw offs..

lubing andchain cleaning...yes clean chains...throw off is necessary for chain cleaning effects while you ride..with this you dont have to worry about chain maintenance for up to 25,000km before the chain requires retensioning..

dirty rims...yes..but removing oil is much much much easier than removing grease/wax..sticky lube..it takes less than a minute to wipe off oil from the rim and swing arm...imho

i love my ezzyoiler

Every 1500km-2500km depend on engine oil. ONLY ONE-LITRE. no more, no less. Fully synthetic last longer than semi-synthetic/mineral. phantom only need change EO at that mileage, as well as spark plug maybe every 10000km. rmb we got NO OIL FILTER in case shop wanna chop you.

remember to check your EO Dipstick every 500km? and top up when it is below the level.

Some phantoms tends to "drink" EO.

Bros, can recommend me a jacket (not necessary from bikeshop) that can provide protection against abrasion during skid? Seems like those at bikeshops look like wear motorgp racing de... any low key jacket thats not too hot to wear after riding?

just get a armored mesh jacket... its not that hot while riding as its meshed and armor is there to protect u... i've been using a cheap komine jacket since 1st bike till now still using... if u want normal jacket i dont think there's any armor to protect u and it will surely be hot unless u open up the zip

Hi guys, I am planning on getting a Phantom soon.. As you know, schools only have street bikes and that is all the experience I can get..

Any advise for 1st time owner of Phantom? I did a little research and most of them are 'fishtail' related. Just need to be tactful on the foot brake right? but too much front braking will fall off too.. i thought of having the seller/shop to deliver the bike to my place and plan to joy ride around neighborhood many rounds to get to get 'bonded'.. what do you guys think?

@naim bro, how abt air filter? 2mths ago i replaced new, & last week i replaced it again, will it be too frequent? in between i only traveled 2500km ...

other than bonding, ride at a speed you are comfortable with. keep safe braking distances. dress for the fall, not the "joy" ride.

if you're worried about fishtail, be comfortable with your brakes. ride as you would ride in school, and learn about the bike. be comfortable, but keep an eye out for other road users. they could be as much a danger as the fishtail :)

Got bike must ride!

Thank you so much for your reply! I guess i have to take riding much more seriously. I will be going to the Jurong West shop to purchase some proper clothing and 'wet suit' for gear myself up. I have been driving for awhile and I have to say taxi drivers are as dangerous as oil spill on the road!

Thank you for your reply toO! What you mean is probably turning uses more handle bar turning? While in BBDC, I usually do not turn into mild corners with handle bar, just leaning. I suppose this is not recommended for Phantom?

you mean knox? i might wanna go there to get a mesh jacket soon too. maybe let me know when you're gg down then we see how.

you can still 'lean into corners', ie counter steering. just dont expect it to perform like sports bike. it can go low, but to go low and too fast, is not wise ;) take things slow, get used to it, trust your bike, take care of it and it will take care of you :)

Firstly you realise that the street bikes you've gotten your experience from are a completely different breed from the Phantom. The experience you've gained will do you as much good on a Phantom as it will if you opt for a sports bike or a scrambler.

Yes, the rear wheel tends to lock up easily; it's true for all bikes...the rear wheel locks more easily than the front. But due to the uneven weight distribution (mostly caused by the weight of the rear wheel itself), a rear wheel lock tends to be harsher on a Phantom. If you're thinking of getting acquainted with your new bike, you can experiment and see how much you can depress your rear brake lever before the rear starts locking; that way you know the limits of your bike. This would be better than being afraid of using your rear brake effectively. You don't have to panic when your rear wheel does lock; releasing the rear brake will solve the problem...keep a relaxed posture and don't panic as well. Do the same with your front brakes, get to know your bike.

Low ground clearance will also limit your lean angle; you can probably fix this by getting aftermarket shocks and raising your ride height.

For other generic advice, you can check out the guide in the sticky.

Shop around for value for money gear; don't just confine yourself to one shop if you can help it. Gear is very subjective; something comfortable to one person might not be wearable to another. Shop around, try stuff on then shell out your hard earned money on something that will satisfy you.

As for counter steering, every bike operates on this principle. You definitely can do this on a Phantom. Your bike doesn't turn because you are leaning. Your bike turns because when you lean in the direction of the turn, you exert pressure on the handlebar on the inside of the turn, pushing your handlebars away from the direction of the turn, which 'activates' counter steering. To be able to turn your handlebars in the direction you are turning, you have to be very slow. Try going at around 40-50km/h, then twitch the bars slightly to the left (make sure the road is clear, and don't twitch too much!). You will find that your bike veers to the right even though you turned your bars left. That is counter steering. You get a lot of movement from a little input on the bars, so try this out gradually.

Bros, just want to ask a battery charging question... please help if you know the answer! (been asking around in real life and nobody seem to be sure).

Ok, I know that when we on the engine and start the bike, quite a bit of electric power is used.. then when we ride, it slowly charges back the battery.

The question is, assuming the magnetic coil and rectifier is in perfect condition, what is the minimum riding distance that will cover back the electricity used in startup? (in other words, if I keep making short trips that require restarting the engine each time, I will keep making deficit and eventually drain all the battery)

Anyone can help or offer any insight?

Posted

Yup short trips will not charge ur battery enuf. No actual values but i estimate at least 10-15 mins of highway riding cux phantom's charging system very weak. When idling wif headlights on + hold brakes, it is already draining d battery.

hi guys, my phantom's engine recently has this problem of 'off-ing' in the rain. The moment i close throttle and the rpm goes down, the bike engine will off within the next 5 seconds, is it cause rain got onto the spark plug?
