1. Horn working inte4rmittently could be a few issues

a. Poor grounding contact

b. worn contacts on horn switch

c. degraded horn (if original horn, check for corrosion on shell, if snail horn check whether horn is cracked)

2. Kill switch isn't a must, but who wouldn't want everything to be working on their ride? Sometimes its just a loose wire on the switch or to the crankcase which leads to the ignition coil. Isn't a must to fix, I must stress.

3. Now on the topic of phantoms scrapping, I know of a few which just recently renewed their COE, and in wonderful conditions. Can't really agree or disagree, but its really up to the rider. You probably can't find any more 2B cruisers (200cc) as comfortable as a phantom. But if you are not going to stop at 2b, of course there would be others for consideration. But if you are like me (2b is enough), then phantom is probably your best bet for a long time.

Thanks so much for your replies guys, especially matthias76!

Got a brand new horn today haha! Any recommendations for workshops near the north to fix it up?

I know of a DIY thread in the sticky, but I got no confidence to DIY even though I love to DIY stuff.. Don't want to screw things up lol..

Living in woodlands and all the workshops are at ubi area, long ride for me man..

Loving the phantom so far! Thanks for your advice pple!

Seeing what price spares even used go for, I was hoping to get a spare set of parts for scrap prices.

The horn is easy to fix, find the original wire and just replace on the new horn. There's only two wires. Unless you have two horns but still it is two from the main.

For the horn, it is better to get a relay to avoid power surge and a blown fuse.

Check the instructions on the box before you install them.

Some horns don't need a relay because they don't draw as much current and are softer but others do.

Without a relay the horn when used will draw a heck lot of power and overheat the wires and blow the fuse.

I once used a set of stebels without using relay, but because it is very very rare for me to horn people on the road, I haven't blown any fuses so far.

Motorcyclist are the nicest people on the road, try not to kill us.

I propose getting the relay even if you think you don't horn that often.

The relay allows power distribution through an alternate circuit better purposed (on the basis that you use the correct gauge wire). The original horn wires through the original switch is a bare minimum and would risk over-heating and surges if your horn is a higher amperage than the original.

And the results are often more obvious and loud with a relay. Plus its cheap and easy to DIY as well.

Juzzwheelz in Bukit Merah (Alexandra Village) does that. Saw a few samples when i was last there doing decals for my TA200. Dunno about the price tho, but you can check out their webby.

Hi guys, I just got a 2nd hand TA200 2nd gen. Ytd morning, I had no issue riding in the rain and parked my TA200 under the rain. But in the early afternoon, I rode from Jln bahar till PIE 500m from eng neo exit, my engine show sign of losing power and give off puffing/popping sound. After 200m ride, it stalled so I had to move to the road shoulder. I tried a few attempts to start it but failed. Then I was like damn, don't tell me my bike run out of fuel and my reserve indicator or tank faulty. I rode 300km since my last refill so most likely my main tank was out of fuel. After I called the towing svc, I try to start it again and it works. So I gotta cancel the towing =__= I rode another 2km to the petrol kiosk and refilled 8.4L of petrol.

Anybody encounter this issue before? Since I'm able to ride smoothly after the incident, I was thinking if I should send my bike to mech or just ride till I encounter the issue again.

just a silly mistake...

old bikes..all bikes..

u need to figure out the petrol consumtion...

just top up to full...ride say 100km..then to the stn to top up..

the amount you top up until full...is the litres /100kim...

this is especially important for bikes without fuel meter...

or you switch over to the reserve tank...but newbies may not be aware of it..some may have it on reserve all the time..

take care...sent your bike to the workshop whether you need to change all the fluids in your bike..ie engine lube, brake fluid..primary/secondary lube etc...as you will never know what has been done to the bike maintenace..

have it check over especially brakes and tyres..

there are 1000 and 1 things to do on an unkown old bike...best is research it if u care

Yeah.. I've found out the fuel consumption of TA200 is 34-40km/L so decided to refill till I hit 300km but didn't expect to stall when I hit 300km. XD

What I afraid is my reserve tank might have some problem since there's a delay in switching to reserve tank. Do you have any idea how TA200 2nd gen reserve tank works? I was told that it will auto switch to reserve when the indicator lights up. Is it true?

Posted

Gen 2 has no petcock settings to reserve. The fuel reserve indicator lights up at when you used up 8.3l or so, depends sometimes on the gradient of the bike as well. Since you came out from eng neo, I supposed you must be facing downwards and if the fuel is low, you may run into situations of spluttering engine since fuel supply is driven by gravity to the front.

Yeah... I was at the down slope then stopped by the slight heavy traffic. While I was moving off, the engine spluttered and stalled. So I paddled my bike to the eng neo exit 300m sign. Tried a few attempts to start the engine again but failed. A while later I managed to start it. So to confirm it's not battery or stator problem I off the engine and start again. Then later I rev the engine to confirm there's fuel, the engine sounds good. Before that, I was around 500m away from eng neo exit and there's slight splutter. It's until I got stopped and while moving off, my engine spluttered, lose power and stalled.

XD So if this kind of things happen again I just find a flat surface to start my engine?

Btw, do you usually refill before or after hitting the reserve tank?

I usually refuel once the lights comed on. Make it a habit. I had to walk 2km to buy fuel one time cos I kept thinking it would last another 50km when the light came on. Forgetting that I've already travelled that 50km a few hours ago.

it's easier if you make it a point to regularly refill on certain days (lets say every tues for me as my tank last me a week).

that way you will never forget or worry unless your travel distance vary much day to day.

in that case I refill before having to switching to reserve. don't subject yourself to stress especially if you pillion.

if u are nowhere near a petrol kiosk when you are empty on the road it is gonna be a real bummer.

Thanks guys for your valuable info & advice.

My planning was to refill every 300km. I just found out my FC is 36km/l. Full tank can run around 400km. So should be more than enough fuel to last till any petrol kiosk. XD I will try to refill near 300km if I have time or near petrol kiosk after having bad experience.

hi guys,

just bought my ta200 about a month back, just changed a carb at ah chong few days back.

now like the bike keep cannot start, the starter is working but i have to hold throttle to start the bike, after i let go the bike just dies. ive tried the choke and it doesn't work as well, can feel engine is not totally cooled down also.

appreciate some help!

Could your idling setting be too low?

The choke isn't a device for the bike to hold up acceleration. What it does is simply open up a bigger air in take which would in turn cause fuel to burn more rapidly to heat up in an otherwise cold engine.

What you mention seemed more like a idling screw setting or carburettor setting issue. If you can ride back to Planet you can ask ah chong to check and set the screw settings again. I advise you not to meddle with carb settings yourself since you are still new. The idle screw setting you can try it out yourself. There's a diy guide in the pk forum.

check idle, check air filter first. Filter should be translucent to light when new. if filter is old then might have to open throttle to start. pull choke will only make it more difficult.

open throttle while engine starting especially on cold day usually means air filter ratio have too lower portion of air

thanks for reply sawfly, but airfilter changed today :x new one from the bag summore. idle quite high liao leh, previously nvr cause any problem so i never go touch

try increasing idle first . if don't work and really carb setting issue like matthias suggest, its an overrich pilot circuit setting, easier to go planet and settle. dun recommend u adjust yrself unless u are familiar with carb.

U can try but personally I dun think it's a high likely! Anyway spark plugs should replace alrd when u got yr bike.. Standard consumable
