Heard it can be bought at mustafa, not sure though. But the wrench tool actually most adjustable spanner should be able to help you, as for the rear suspension, its called a C-wrench if i'm not mistaken, should be able to buy separtely at most hardware shops.

okay thanks!

Haha I never knew there's such a thing as cat repellent. Will try to look for one in nearby pet shops. Noticed some small scratches on my tail pipe too. Initially thought it was someone pissed at me taking his slot when I got my bike. lol

I had cold start problem again last night...

Pulled choke but couldn't get it running even after a few cranks. Resorted to started with throttle slightly open. Then if I let go of throttle immediately engines dies... Have to hold it for about 5 sec then it's stable, after which I'll close the choke.

I know revving for long periods with the choke open will destroy the engine right? is 5 sec safe?

Starting Procedure

Cold Engine:

1. Pull the choke knob out all the way to Fully ON position.

2. With the throttle closed, press the starter button.

NOTE:

• Do not open the throttle when starting the engine with the choke ON. This will lean the mixture, resulting in hard starting.

3. When engine speed begins to pick up operate the choke knob to keep fast idle.

4. Continue warming up the engine until it runs smoothly and responds to the throttle, when the choke knob is at fully OFF position.

Warm Engine:

1. Do not use the choke.

2. Open the throttle slightly.

3. Start the engine.

CAUTION:

• Snapping the throttle or fast idling for more than about 5 minutes at normal air temperature may cause exhaust pipe discoloration.

• Extended use of the choke may impair piston and cylinder wall lubrication and damage the engine.

Hello, I have a question about servicing the bike ah. Like, when go to shop, what do you tell the guy? "Eh, I wan service bike" Or what?

Okay, I know this looks like a damn kokhead question ah, but I really have no idea how to go about doing it.

for me I would tell the mechanics what I want exactly, maybe something like:

I want to change engine oil, air filter, spark plug.

I want to change chain and sprocket

I want to change front tyre

ah chong, overhauuuuuulll!!! (lolz...)

Hello friends,

I have just inherited an old FU plate TA200 Phantom from my uncle.I have some questions I hope u guys can clarify.I've done some browsing but have not found all the answers i seek.

1)I am a tall guy and I am not very comfortable with the stock handlebar.I hope to change it to a mini ape-hanger or a T-shaped one with a riser.where can i get these bars and how much do they roughly cost?Any comments on how they would look like and feel on a phantom?

2)Is there a way to lower the rear brake lever?due to my long legs my toes ends up facing forward or down when on the footpeg instead of facing up like it should on a cruiser,so the lever is higher than my foot.I use front brake almost solely and thinks its dangerous in times of emergency.

3)What gear are u in when cruising at 60 km/h?I find myself having to go all the way to the fifth gear to cruise comfortably at that speed, without too much vibration and that dragging sound. From a stop position i often had to quickly kick up gears before comfortably settling on 4th or 5th gear.Ideally i would like to be able to stay in gear 3 in speed more than 50km/h before it starts roaring really loud. How do I rectify this issue?

4)Lastly,how fast can a phantom really go?I tried last nite and found the top speed to be 120km/h.how can I increase it?

1. For ape hangers, most people custom make theirs. There is a legal limit to how tall it can go though.

2. Either change it to another model's pedal that fits, or cut and reweld your current one.

3. Me is 6th gear. Haha! You want to retify your's to become like mine?

4. Fastest ever on a downslope is 153km/hr in Malaysia. It took a very long time to build up this speed though.

1) how tall are you? u can try a straight handlebar with straight riser and customize ur seat...

2) my legs are long too, i used to have this problem as well... u can try to place ur feet outwards, beside the lever instead of on the lever itself, as for the facing upwards position, i dun tink its possible on a phantom as it's not forward control unless u customize

3) usually i would go to 6th gear, very seldom i would use the 3rd and 4th gear... 5th gear only when im cornering... 6th gear when cruising

4) 130km on our meter, but the real speed is only around 110km... depends on machine, some have done more some less

I am 1.9m,110 kg.I do find gear 3 and 4 redundant. Is it possible to change the gear sprocket to increase the gear ratio? Its kinda a hassle to change quickly from 1st to 5th/6th gear only to step down to 1st again 20 secs later at a traffic light.

Another thing,I need a simple and cheap saddlebag just to put my raincoat and towel since i took off the topbox.Any idea if i can get one below 50 bucks and where?

Posted

yes u can change the gear ratio.. but you will suffer else where. example: pick up speed.

below 50 bucks? i dun think so unless you DIY make your own bag..

this is after all a manual clutch bike...if u find changing gears a hassle..a good alternative is a auto scooter..no hassle in managing the gears/clutch..twist and go..so easy.

hey guys, i am looking to buy a phantom 200 year 2002.

the bike itself cost 500 bucks with the coe ending at march 2012. so about 1 year left to go. the problem is, the owner already mentioned the bike itself needs an overhaul, which i found cost around 380.

so is it still a good buy? 880 bucks? comes with free top and side boxes.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

personally, i would find it abit insensible to overhaul, ride for 1 year and scrap at price approximately to $1k. (unless you are rich...lol)

for me, i will carry out major overhaul and prepare to extend the coe, the reason is to make my money spent worth while.

hmm, yeah, just riding it to get to 2a. so if i buy, overhaul, extend coe more worth it?

for me, i will not spend such high repair fees to make the machine to serve me for 12 months only. if i intend to make the machine to serve me for many years to come, then i will consider to overhaul it and for this case have to consider the extension of coe too. i believe the seller has considered all these and maybe thats the reason he want to sell it now.

well, its always your decision on how to spend your money.

Hi PKs,

I am planning to get a TA200 soon around April. A new 2B holder myself and I am not too sure whether to get it from dealer or from riders who wish to sell away.

From what I know getting a bike is definitely more than just making the bike ownership mine but there are other things like road tax, COE, insurance and payment to consider. I was told if I get from dealer of 2nd hand bikes, though prices are expensive but at least they do everything for me including fixing up th 2nd hand bike to tip top condition and I can choose the payment mode (full cash or installment).

As for buying from direct user, I have to do all the necessary paperwork myself? I dunno if it is true but hopefully you guys are willing to assist me. Have been tracking the SBFF's PK site for very long and really wish to own one soon annd join you guys in the meetups to know more about the bike.

Please share with me if you have any recommendations to buy from any dealer or information to share!

if you have sufficient cash, go buy from owner, if not go get loan or buy from motor diam lor

tip top condition from motor diam??? first time i heard such thing, they only provide necessary servicing before handing over the bike to you, no motor diam will provide you tip top condition, the most they provide you few months warranty which they also cross their fingers hoping nothing serious will happen to the bike as they also dont know the exact condition of the bike before they bought from the previous owner. if the bike broke down, they will replace at the minimum and extend the warranty 1 more month which they are confident, thereafter its your liability and $$$$$ to repair any damages

admin for transfer is as easy as abc, buying insurance more easy (money is the key)

i would prefer to buy from owner than from shop... coz heard too many stories of ppl having problem with their phantom which are bought from shops... the good thing buying from owners is that u r able to test the machine, bring an experienced rider with ya to view bikes. The "paperworks" are only insurance and transfer of ownership + road tax, not hard at all...

recently i went to my mechanic to replace cam chain tensioner and clutch plate.

the mech says that the engine of ta200 is similar to that of xr200, and so he uses xr200 cam chain tensioner.

also, he advice me to top up 2l of engine oil, reason being that xr200 requires 1.8l of engine oil, and therefore ta200 also need as much engine oil.

bike seems ok so far. any comments?
