will give it a go tomorrow with the routine of straighter back, grip tank lightly, harder when changing gears, relax after shifting. its a skill man! they should teach this at the driving centre...then again...with the bikes there i didn't even have a problem. hahaha!

great! i'll have to go look out for them. any idea where to find them in singapore?

Not available in Singapore. Have to order online.

Erm, i seriously doubt tank protectors/pads will help much, since their main duty is to protect the tank from your belt buckle, rather than cushion your bolla.

Scuba got it right. Stormgrips come with knobs that will allow your jeans to anchor against them. in fact the knobs are so abrasive that your jeans can wear out if they're too thin!

whoa, always tot u were riding a S4 from your videos i watched. since it look like a S4, do u happen to ride a monster 400 or 696?

I'm still riding the S4. Taking my Class 2 next year. But I impatient so I bought the bike first. It's a 696 and my partner is riding it.

Sounds useful then, thought he was trying to use it as a cushion instead of providing better grips.

Then again, i never had problems gripping and preventing forward slides both on current ride and on my old 125 Extrema back in the late 90s, probably due to long legs. My knees always found comfy grooves to lock myself in, there was no need to use the thighs to grip unless cornering.

hahaha just try using ur inner knee cap area(bone area) just like how school teach you how to ride as a pillon using ur knee to grab the rider.

if you do correctly should have quite a distance between ur nuts and tank

I've seen Stompgrips at Motoworld Lavendar.

Quite expensive for a couple of silicon pads. Above 70 IIRC.

@fleas: thanks for the photograph. i just came back from lunch actually. rode the bike all the way from upper thomson to great world and back. i sat as suggested with a fist's distance between the crotch and the tank. and i gripped the tank with that part of the knees as pointed out in your picture. works like a dream. only problem is when stopping, i cannot put my left foot flat on the road cos i am now sitting at the back part of the seat and it is much higher up!

@DeusExMachina: wow...70 bucks for silicone does sound expensive. well, if they make it more comfy might still give it a try. cos when i was riding today it takes quite a bit of effort to "hug" the tank with my knees :) if got silicone there might make it much easier to "grip", i think.

@sICkbOi-dOt-cOm: your nick very difficult to type man...but no, unfortunately, i do not have b*lls of steel lor. hahaha!

bro i think ur technique is wrong dats y.

do you always e-brake everytime you brake?

you need to move around bro..

like if u know u gonna brake, then u position uself.

maybe stiffen your arms and move ur crotch forwards and put ur balls against the tank so it wont get crushed?

can't imagine well at this time.. but hope u get the idea.

like want to corner, want to pick up, all need to position uself.

maybe u want to try to race crouch all the time? chest and chin on the tank.

@KeraKing: no, i do not ebrake at all actually since i don't ride all that fast. but i think you are right about technique being the problem here. i get what you are saying about moving about in the seat depending on what i am trying to do with the bike. that is GREAT advice. will give it a try when i ride again - probably later today :)

He takes his bikes to track. That's when the grips come in useful because you have to brake pretty hard.

about the grip pads..

i dun use such things.

but i'm thinking that u can simply buy those anti-slip dashboard mats, cut nicely and paste at the sides of ur tank.

those thing really anti-slip.

we use it as pillion pads.

on the subject of pilion seat,

i find the anti slip pillion seat cover (not the dashboard stuff)

works wonders, its really anti slip.

just dun use on rider seat.. makes hard to move around even worse when wearing leathers.

update: i was out yesterday (short while only about 20minutes ride) and did not get bashed at all because i did that "one fist distance" thing and started to shift on the seat when braking versus accelerating. nice :) still gotta get more smooth on that though...will hold on from purchasing anything for now as i experiment more with my technique.

anyone knows where people teach sportsbike riding technique in singapore?

Eh? Hahah... No, I don't think so.

You can rent the track.

But the riding instructors.... hahaha... you'll have to get your own.
