Just want to share a discovery and might have found what is the issue with my bike. My R1 04 overheats quite fast especially during slow traffic which I believe almost all have the same problem as me which is quite often during traffic light.

I stopped my bike yesterday to withdraw some cash, after 5 mins I went back to my bike and couldn't start. Then I was thinking jialat not again. I have just change my battery and even installed a voltmeter to measure the voltage for my bike.

The fan would only kick in at 106 degrees. Then I decided to let the fan cool till 105 degrees and attempt to start, and it did !! I am not sure if anyone of you face this problem.

If you off your bike and its very hot, you would not be able to start the bike if its 106 degrees and above, which was what happen previously, my bike was showing at 112 degrees while running along Seletar camp area. Then a simple charge was all it took to get the bike going again.

Then I change a whole new battery even though the battery was just 6 months old. Coincidence perhaps ?? I got a feeling that this might be something that is programmed on the bike itself although I haven't went to really read the manual or seek other options.

Anyone encounter this before?

yes bro.. i encounter... as the fan is on... u can hear some how like not enuff battery to start the bike right?? coz if fan is on (ignition on n engine off) my voltmeter would be like 10+ - 11+ ...but mine still okay to start...

how bout make it this way .... yr voltmeter need to show at least 12.2 to be able to start the bike smoothly i believe... any indication lower than 12.2 i would say harder for the bike to start.. (fan / headlight / etc) all needs electricity.....

if u read some post back by Maxbg... he did intro a Gel type battery that Mr Lo-on said could last 6years on his model too... u might wanna check it out.. =)

ur bike shldnt have this problem. even when fan is on, u shld still be able to start ur bike.. i think that might be symptoms of ur batt is weak or worst.. ur magneto coil might have problems.. u might wan to check out ur magnet since its an 04 model..

ur starter might be an issue too.

hmnn...yes the battery is weaker when the fan is on, that I agree...its about 12 plus...

wow Gel type battery ?? Is it proven ? Or do you have one installed already ? haha...

Kaii69 - I dun think it could be the battery already, its brand new, and the previous one was only 6 months old.

Fufu - I didn't realise there was a starter to be changed, but you are right, when I start the bike now, its not immediate, its like a few seconds.

Anyway I will be going back to check it out within these few weeks and possible bleed my radiator (is that how you call it? haha)

How much does a starter costs?

Anyone encounter this before?

Riding an 04 before....

experienced something similar like u....

except that my bike dont like died there.... :cheeky:

bike heats up easily....but also cool down easily when riding on the E'way....

Fan turns on at 104DegC

Got once i experienced that the Temp is aove 106DegC...more like 108DegC and difficult to cooldown even while riding....

Went to see my mech, flush the damn radiator and topped up with Waterwetter....bike was good as before...no prob ever since...and used Maxima Cool Aide for the rest of coolant change...

When 'On' bike (the fan will 'On' when its still hot)....kinda hard to start the bike too....(more of like, no power to crank it)

but usually if i leave the bike for 5 mins, it usually cooldown already and the fan will not be 'On' so, no prob starting the bike...

try rectifying your cooling issue first before changing parts?

M1_R1 - this might sound silly but what is a relay?

Kai - Haha that I believe he went back to change right ?? poor fellow.....and thanks flush is the word =)

Exhal3r - what bike are you riding ? What was the problem that you changed it ?

Leon - Thanks for sharing, thats the only thing i have not changed before since i got my bike 7 months ago. I will try flushing my radiator before changing any parts, hopefully the heat would improve.

Thanks to everyone for their comments....only have the experienced then can guide the newbies like me hehe
