Well, I mean realistically, it is Singapore. What are the chances of getting a puncture on our roads. It's really very very slim. If you only intend to ride it here I don't really think you should be too paranoid about punctures.

maybe he stays at Malaysia.

No, you cannot simply change to sports rims. This requires serious modifications to the wheels, and is not recommended for obvious reasons.

not just simply change, but it can be done properly, and it had been done.

what serious modification are u referring to?

There's a reason Honda have cornered the market with S4's - they are reliable, many servicing agents, and hold their value.

Wouldn't worry about punctures, unlikely. Also even though you could possibly ride a tubeless tyre if punctured - YOU SHOULDN'T! Extremely dangerous!! Have you ridden a 2A bike yet? You may find the smile you get from a bigger, meatier and better handling bike changes your mind. Bigger bikes are also safer - you can get out of trouble a lot quicker.

PS - I don't ride a S4, but think they are great bikes for Singapore.

So the put a Ducati together using hex bolts, then give you a screwdriver for a toolkit.... Italians do have a sense of humour!

hi there everyone.

i really need yr sincere opinion on my predicament.

should i stick to 2B bike or upgrade to 2A?

this is because im at my wits end on which type of bike im i goin to 'invest'.

Addtional info on what kind of bike that im looking for (either 2B or 2A if im goin to upgrade)

- bike usage is for transportation purposes in S'pore only

- bike is easily maintain

- bike model is well recognize and reputable

- bike model has good track record (not easily break down, not easily go for repairs)

- fuel consumption is above average

- bike got good pick-up

- not looking for top speed bike

- not looking for sports racing bike eg TZM, aprilla

- suitable for tall rider

- bike is suitable to ride in normal wet weather condition (not the heavy duty rain kind of wet weather)

able to assist me in making my decision...

thanks in advance

With all the reasons you had given, stick to a bike which is 200cc and below.... you don't need anything bigger than that for local roads unless you're heading up to Malaysia often. Save your money. Get something bigger if you want to ride it long distances or push it to the limits. In Singapore's traffic, smaller bikes are the best machines to ride on the road.

Yes, anything above 600cc certainly puts a smile on your face but in terms of practicality locally a small bike is better for the job and easier on the wallet. Yet to factor insurance, maintenance and also responsibility on the roads when riding a bigger bike.

Your mind can sometimes go wild on a bigger bike in local roads. It's safer to ride a bigger bike outside Singapore where the roads are perfect for fast machines.

sorry hijack your thread a little.

DRZ-SM.

Reliable, light weight, good fuel consumption, good power, good acceleration, low maintenance, tons and tons of aftermarket parts available.

With an upright ridin position, it is perfect for transport purposes. Not to mention that it allows you to try some supermoto fun if you ever decide to explore the sports.

But what do I know? I am biased towards thumpers...

how is the drz fuel consumption like? can hit 30km/l?

how low is the 'low maintenance'? how many plugs? how many bottles of eo?

and last qn, how low can the drz be adjusted to? (i'm only 1.5m)..

thanks ppl for all the opinions....

just wld like to know...

for DRZ, whats the probability of the tube tires punctured whilst riding in Spore? (dun want to park the bike one side since tires got punctured as bike unable to ride unlike bike with tubeless tires which able to move in slow speed even got punctured)

or should i put it like this.... whats the stats of tube tires got punctured in Spore?...

any difference of probability of class 2B with tube tires got punctured (eg:- derbi 125) with class 2A (drz sm) or class 2 (African Twin)?

does the class size of bikes makes any diff in gettting more prone of puncturing the tube tires?

i've used tube tyres. and i've never punctured it before for almost a year already. i've used tubeless tyres on another bike and i've punctured the same tyre twice in a week. so it's all about luck but in singapore, you'll be relatively safe. just try to avoid those wooden planks on the road. they tend to have nails sticking out.

just ask yourself this question. you want a scrambler or a road bike? a scrambler can give you lots of fun and good pickup but low top end. a road bike is more stable on the roads and can go high speed but have only decent pick up as compared. for a road bike, super 4 is the best and for a scrambler, drz will be the best option. else, a honda twister 250 or a yamaha wr 250 will give you a decent upgrade from a 2b bike but with a less maintenance of a super 4 or a drz.

sorry hijack your thread a little.

1.5m is just height. the only question is are you comfortable riding a bike when you can't touch the ground? cos even if you're short, you can always cut the seat and slide out of the seat to stand on 1 foot to stabilise the bike when stationary.

low maintenance is in comparison with a super 4. else, it's still more expensive than a kupchai.

topic starter...

thread starter actually.

So i wont be the only young guy on a YBR. You know what i mean? So at least people wont mistake me as an unkle. :cheeky:

Anyway, i have to admit, its a good bike. Realiable, cheap to maintain and economical. My odometer says 92,000 kilometers, never overhaul before and it is still running strong.

IMHO class 2A bikes are definitely more safer than a class 2B bikes.Beside having a higher power to weight ratio,it is heavier and usually equiped with better braking system.By using a larger cross section tires,it has a larger contact point on the road.

If your budget allows,i do suggest give yourself a bigger bike.

couldn't agree more with this. but let's see if you can find the balance between the above said and your budget.

How about 2b bikes like phantom or daystar? Those bikes have thick tires and good braking system. Only thing is that they are not as powerful as 2a bikes.

actually...some 2B bikes have good power to weight ratio and solid braking too...a Mito has good power for a 125cc because it is 2-stroke...and the brakes are second to none :) the tires are meaty too :p

switch down from class2 to 2b bike many yrs ago,

felt much relief from heavy expenses on maintenance/repair cost, speeding fines, heat from the engine, heavy to handle, etc, etc.

cl2b bikes really feels damn good, it's agile, light, easy n cheap to maintain.

hey, no more speed fines... :thumb:

safety-wise, had more accidents on cl2 bikes than on cl2b bikes.

any mishaps, u can ride away on cl2b bike but u can't on a cl2 bike, totally down, too much heavily damages.
