The other two things that I forgot to mentioned is that you may look at the bulb filament (against the sunlight) and see if they not blown.

The other thing is that, those connector wires (one brown/something and the other Green-ground) to their socket (one T10 and two T5) may be corrroded inside. I have a few experience lately while doing lightings that I found the copper strands atr badly blacken by copper oxidation...thus current does not suffice to reach the bulb. The wire itself is a 'load' and that explain why our bulbs are all so dim.

Since this wire is a branch from the hardness, not much can be done as the wires had aged and also not sure how long in length that it's affected. The only way if you do not ahve the budget to replace the whole hardness (about $380) is to work out a new connectivity with fuse to tap the power direct from battery.

yup ur right....the whole branch of wire from the hareness leadin to e feul gauge, odometer lights n oil n temp, side stand bulbs, all the lights are out...darn...must be somewhere in e hareness affected.....il ask again at choin aik for a choing white meter den....thanks man...i tink this is a bit out of my league...very leceh leh....i guess il have to go to planet to help me...

but its been interesting opening up the meter...but got a couple of heart attacks when i drop a couple of the tiny screws on e floor and had to search frantically...thanks ah pek.... cant wait to install those bright long led strips in e meter

I ride at 70km/hr only...please please dont blow2 at me or overtake me dangerously....wait i change into Incredible Hulk n dont know why my little baby bike will always be ahead of u if u do that

If you have intention to keep the bike long, its worth getting a new hardness done for $380 or so. Have to do mine soon. Wires also all aged liao...sighhh. :(

Boe_Pian leh..my 1st gear always up to 10/11k rpm and jump to 3rd..oso 11k when the road is clear in front. My ride can take all the trashing lah..it has all the goodies.

You always catch me around that time or much earlier. Next time I see you, I howdy you..LOL! "Life short, bike hard!"

CLS is like putting layers of meat (micro layer metal coating) back for old bikes that has wear and tear on cyclinder wall, gears and piston rings) and EPS is like "Chi" (CCA) to the spark plug ignition coils.

No idea but if there isn't any, may be try lower the fron primary gear to 14 teeth.

Pek sorri forgot to ask...whats the number of teeth for the stock front sprocket?

Posted

Hi.. can anyone pls advice: having just replaced the thermostat on the radiator, the fan still doesn't spin even after 15-20mins of revving n riding. The fan is tested working on isolated tests. What could be the prob?

Any rough idea on how long does the radiator fan spin up usually, under normal riding or even at stationary, lets say in the evening. Advices appreciated.

Stock is 15 teeth for the primary front gear across all S4.

Hope you are right about the thermostat because some ppl think that the black stubby thingy sticking out of the back left side of the radiator with a wire attached to it is a thermostat..that's a fan stitch.

Anyway..there is no fixed timing to bring the fan to cut on..especially when you are riding it. You should be happy that it does not at all as long has you have done isolated test that its ok. This goes to show that your cooling system is working very well.

If you want, try idling the bike for 10 to 15 mins in stationary status..again, if the fan is working in isolated test, this is unnecessary as it goes to show that your thermistor fan switch is ok.

Thanks Ah Pek for ur advice!

when i did test the fan only, its working by itself. (could actually test the fan itself by grounding the connector to the fan switch u mentioned.)

plug it back to the radiator, tried to let it idle... fan doesnt spin at all even after >15mins. already can feel very strong heat radiating around it.

mech told me cud be prob with the temp gauge. could it be? juz wanna clarify before i change.

another question: should all 3 LEDs on meter turn on, when key switched on?

meaning.. side stand, temp, oil. cos my temp lite doesnt on. never seen it turn on b4.. suspect spoilt le. Thanks.

Temp gauge?..non Vtech nike got gauge meh? All I know is that its a red led which is part of the rev meter circuit board unless yours has a gauge. At any rate, a gauge function is for you to read what it monitors only and does not play any function in the cooling system.

Since you have a new "Thermostat", I rule that out as a suspected faulty item..but if you really want to make sure the mototiam don't use a scrape bike or second hand one that might be faulty...take it out, boil a small pot of hot water. Just before boiling point at about at 100 degrees Celsius (102)..put the 'new' thermostat in, wait a few second and it should have a mild 'pop' sound..meaning, the waxs inside has melted and the thermostat is 'valve' is open. If no sound..means its a "Wan_Pa_Tann" thermostat they gave you.

Assuming now that your thermostat is okay..the next one and only thing I can suspect is your fan switch..not that its spoiled but it has a higher temperatire sensor or a bad one. To change one..its about $32 to $38..and yes, there a variation of temperature type..meant to cut on your fan at about 112 degrees Celsius if memory serve me well.

If you can get your hands on a temperature measuring hand help test equipment, you can tell. Your type of coolant used may be too kooooooool too..LOL! Anyway..in short, got nothing to do with a guage.

About the red led lights..no, it does not have a self check status like those of the oil and side stand down. I made a mistake last time thinking it should..but by right it should. If you wanna know if its working, get a Eveready 9V dc square type battery and test it..have to open up meter..then again, it's useless to do so because that led lights up or not does not matter with your issue of fan switch not cutting on. Focus on the fan radiator fan switch sensor.

Please note that the above said is base on certain experience, logic and how it should work right.

Alrite. Thanks alot Ah Pek.. ur help is greatly appreciated!

cos i suspect the coolant is coming out from the holes of the block..

due to overheating n fan not spining early enough.

but my dad said it alright.. a coolant flush and fan fix will do the job.

different from wad i read here.. which is very serious.

I also dislike s4 with the rxz sai tao.

Actually I dont like rxz.. the skinny look, the 2-stroke sound and of course the sai tao. LOL

But.. I think there are people who remain rxz lovers, even when after they buy s4. So if you want a cheap option, maybe you can try posting in the 'CB400 community announcement thread' or sbf classifieds and ask if anyone wants to EXCHANGE their headlight with the saitao. Good luck :thumb:
