Hi Guys,

I am new here.. Used to ride Spec 1 in 2000 for a year and stop riding since.

Now i am looking to get cb400 again. Looking at the market , i see there are quite a number of older version outside. I am interested in one of the PB1 (Reg 1998) advertised. Before i make my offer .

The only that i only about PB1 is

1) Oldest in the family.

2) Straight exhaust pipe

3) no power cut

4) heavier

Can any guru let me know what's the diff between Version S and PB1 ?

1) Ver s 2 version as I know. 1st gen Ver S has PB back. same like Ver R. 2nd Gen Ver S has the usual tail. First Gen was known to be economical in terms of milage minus the performance. 2nd Gen tries to be both. Japan usual use PB & Ver S for racing more rather than Vtecs due to raw power.

2)PB header is 4-1-1 while Ver S is 4-2-1(same as vtecs), 4-1-1 is more to torque power (pick-up n such). Which is sought after. But PB exhaust cant change unless u modified it to be like Ver n Vtecs.

3) Ver S has power cut, but easily can be cancelled with just a wire which is freakin low cost instead of Vtecs using redrev. But no need to cancel powercut lah, singapore so small, cant even achieve it. hahaha. unless u do touring.

4) Vtec Spec II and above is lighter compare to Vtec 1,Ver S,Ver R & PB.

The difference between the Ver S n PB is more on the torque. PB has more torque due to its 4-1-1 header. But long run hi-speed Ver S is better. This is depend on people lah.

Maybe if u got either one of these models you can see Ah Pek and get grounding,eo & Coolent done by him. I dunno if he does Led light change on meter coz 3yrs ago he did it for me. Bright till today.

Haha no worries, those are confirm working. However, in SG streets a bit hard to hit until the power cut and some more, most of the super four of that age a bit hard to run at that speed constantly with out showing signs of a heart attack.. Haha..

Very simple, u take the bike go whack, see the needle stay put or not.

If the needle turn to the end of Red ZOne no power cut. Haha

I need Ah pek's help~! Anyone has his number? And where is Ah Fook?

Ah pek now his overseas and i think will be back next week. You look through the beginning of the page you can find his post. Ah fook is at ang mo kio industrial park 2 if i nv remember wronly. Haven been there in a while and the last time ah pek brought me so kinda forgot about it.

any advise on what to look out for if i am going to get the PB1 ?

Actually most importantly when looking for an old bike like PB1, verR, verS, it is good to get the engine started and hear from any thing that is out of the blue. I guess you have ridding for a while and you will understand what i mean by out of the blue. Engine knocking sound, ticking sound from the carb, funny sound during high revvs.

Another part to note is during revving or when starting of the engine is to check the engine block for leaks. You can do that by pouring soapy water or water and check for bubbles. This step is impt as engine block replacement cost around 1.6k for a new one or 800~900 for an old one.

Wear and tear of the bikes are very high so you must take note of the coolant pipes which may be hard and brittle. Other than that, just pray you get a good bike..

Yupz xj6 is a class 2 bike. But if you are already riding a super4 verS then i think it's not recommended to get the xj6 cos the Horsepower around the same. But of cuz, fazer S2 is a good option but they are already out of production but there have much higher horsepower then xj6. Dunno if you are going for speed or fuel effiency.

Speed = fz6 S2 or fuel effiency = xj6.

But then, the cheaper option is still use ah pek's method to troubleshoot the bike.. everytime i have a prob i don't need to ask, just slowly read through and can solve a lot of my probs le..

wow i see, xj6 and super4 which bike more smoother? xj6 pick up isit much faster den super 4? i over hear that xj6 is heavy but this bike should be designed to be lighter hahaha xD hmm i think now i go for fuel effiency and just nice de maintenance HAHA yea now trying ah pek method just bought the jet cleanser, finally found it at giant (went to 3 place). yea i shall try it next time xD

Correct Ah Fook at the industrial park 2, first turn to the left after Ah Pek's residence to Park 2 . Must go to the end

Ermm, this one i'm no too sure maybe you have to ask the xj6 pple at the naked bikes forums. I know some people upgraded from super four to xj6. Xj6 pick up will of cus be faster then super four due to their bigger CC and compression. xj6 is heavy cos of the engine, it's a 600cc compared to a 400cc.

will this STP complete fuel system cleaner or any of their product improve our fuel consumption?

They are used to clear your internal parts without opening them. As the saying goes, if it ain't spoilt, don't fix it. STP helps to clear your fuel system but the actual workings you have to ask ah pek. He explained to me once.. haha

Is it silver bottle at $20+ per bottle?

If I remember correctly, it says treat up to 21 gallon of fuel. That is 21x3.8= 79 liters of fuel. Can we just pour the whole bottle in since our tank is 15 liter? Will overkill?
