".. but still the fan will still not turn on, he say its normal,"..bullshit. Your radiator fan switch is bad...have it change to original ones..about $48. Don't use the $68..its bad and that are the ones use for cars..they will cut and modified your wirings. Just so u know..b4 the temp lights comes on..the fan has to be cut on by this switch firsy at 102 degreeds Celsius.

thank you ah pek for your input.. will buy a new fan switch and try to self install (possible right?, or do u quote $48 for a shop that does that with installation?).. i dont want to have my bike overheat and cause more problems, especially any cracks....

Yah...easy DIY..just unscrewed the radiator fan switch..the 'nut' size pretty latge..use a medium size adjustable spanner best. As for cost..varies from shop to shop but that's my pricing. U loose a bit of coolant.the quicker u plug the new unit in..the better.

1) Pull out the radiator fan switch wire connector (black)

2) Take a wire and connect it thru the hole on the radiator switch connector blade.

3) put back the connector

4) switch on ur ignition (no need to start bke..just "on")

4) touch the end of the wire u attached to the radiator fan switch anywhere on the body..the fan should turn on.

I rephrase it, see whether I correct anot .

1) Pull out the radiator fan switch wire connector (black)

2) Take a wire and connect it thru the hole on the radiator fan switch connector .

3) put back the connector with the wire attaching inside the connector and connect back to the radiator as Orignal position.

4) switch on ur ignition (no need to start bke..just "on")

5) touch the end of the wire u attached to the radiator fan switch anywhere on the body..the fan should turn on.

You only need to do so if the shim/shims (its the valve clearance totally out due to their wear and tear and it make loud takking sound consistantly) need to be replaced. This is consider a engine block head overhaul as at the same time, grinding of valves and some of its assembly may need to be changed. So are the polishing of piston's heads etc. Cost at least $500+ depending on components need to be replaced along the process.

The other thing that need an overhaul job is replacement of pistons and its ring, conrods or conrods bearings, timing change and tensioner slippers etc..inluding gearbox stuff. This is major overhaul and needed only when engine blocks has knocking loud sound and bike under perform. Cost at least thousands depending on parts to be replaced.

Other than small matter..an S4 never need an overhaul in any manner. Just take care of good mainteanance by using good eo and well maintenance of cooling system.

Im currently riding a spec1, the takking sound will be heard on the left side of my engine whenever i rev up to 6rPm, on all gears its softer when im in gear 6 could that be the same problem? Need ur oppinion pls thanks

Bro I didn't test till the red temp light on...

To test that, need at least 20mins of waiting time at the carpark....

Further more, if I m not wrong, if the coolant system Is gd, then must wait even longer....

I always sayang my bike, I scare wait I test till the red light lighten up,

Bad for the health lo....

Only way to test is, I let the temp light naturally turn on , then I quickly see the fan got turn on anot....

Is tat a gd way to test it naturally?

Anyone can advise....

"Is tat a gd way to test it naturally?"......dat's right. You can't test a thermal device' (radiator fan switch) in assembled form. If u wanna be sure..just change it.

Could be something else. The fault pattern of the shims are not such.

Tks Bro Pek,

I got one question,

how do I knw my temp red light at the meter is working,

And will lighten up at certain temperature?

As u said on earlier post, the fan will kicks in first before the temp light lighten up...

My question is if I m unlucky, my themoswitch is faulty and my temp red light also faulty,

Then I will not be able to knw my bike is running at a overheat temp le....

This is a v scary situation....

Anyway to test the temp red light whether the light working?

Sorry if my question is goodooo.....

"GoonDooo"...not "goodooo"...anyway..this is one thing bad. The temp light do not have a "self check" like the "EO light" when intiatially the key is turn on before engine starts. It's just a small LED and its attached to the RPM circuit board inside the meter. What u can do is to dismantle the meter assembly to get access to it and applid a 5v dc..it's a diode type so if one way don't work..just reverse the polarity of the test voltage.

The more concern would be the "temperature sensor"...its is screwed on to ur Thermostat housing chassis. If it fails..everything oso don't indicate...sighhh..but it hardly spoil lah. The omly tell tale sign when all else fails is thee ngine gets very hot, coolant tank in reserve tank will boil first (not dry out) and engine block immer water jacket will crack eventually if no action of remedy is taken.

Bro Pek, tks for correcting my 'goodooo' to 'goondooo' scoopy-scoopy dooooo!!

I get yr msg. The most impt is the temperature sensor, if it's fail,

Then all die ,

1) if the sensor is working, but my themoswitch and temp light indicator not working also die,

2) if my sensor is working, my thermoswitch and fan are working, but my temp light not working, 'hf die',

**When temp light lighten up, adviseable to stop e bike n rest a while.

My abv two scenarios correct?

Sorry to allow me to ask one more question,

The coolant tank in reserve tank( under the sit) , how do I knw is boil?

Izzit will overflow? Or ? Normally I top up at the upper line which is the correct guide line.

Just wan to knw how do I feel it's boil, in case my temp sensor failure....

Wanna protect the bike before majoy prob arise.....

So by counter this prob, I shall leave my engine on at the carpark for 20 to 30min. If by them, my fan didn't kick in or temp light didn't on, tat's means my themostate sensor got prob,

Better go changed , so tat at least next time my temp light is lighten up, I can at least stop my bike n let it cool down...

Tat's the best tat I can do to self protect the bike.

Sorry to all the bros in the forum...

I have taken up Mr Pek times, I knw u all guys got ques to ask also.....

Its ok to asked if u don't know and that's how we learn..no worries about taking up my time. I do so voluntarily and as and when I'm available and able to answer of course. Whta u said is all correct and understood right. As for boiling..when u stop at traffic lights or better still..engine off..u can hear "bubbling" sound on ur right hind part below the seat if u listen carefully. Another way is to check for sympton and sign of "ripples" under the inner lips of your reserve tank rubber lid over..ripples show sign of boiling before.

U really a super nice Man. I can feel that u really share all out without keeping ,

Where got so nice ppl one! Mayb have but I didn't met till now!!!

I really giv u thumb's up x 99!!!

Mr Pek tks big *hug!

I will do my self check by leaving my engine 'ON' at the carpark for 20 to 30min and also remove my side cover at the coolent side, from there i can observe visblly n heard the bubble sound from coolant if it's boil, If boil and nothing shown on my temp light, N fan didn't kicks in, then Most likely the themostate sensor gone case ,

Tat's the best tat I can do to self check n protect the bike.

For cost saving, if my themostate sensor faulty, I Dnt replace,

I just connect the fan to a switch and permanent let it 'ON',

Will tat be better? I think this ways is not only cost saving , but Benifit the engine also. All the way cooling .

Transfer to my fren due to upgrade to cbr600

Only to know that he too had done top overhaul with block replaced
