hey there. i need some advice on getting a bike.

Im about 1.78

I dont really need speed.

most importantly is maintanence and fc.

i would only have about 200 to put aside for petrol and maintanence every month excluding instalments.

would prefer a 4 stroke sports bike or naked bike but the cbr 150 is rather small and the daelim rwr and r15 is kinda exp for me as im only a student.

im looking to spend about 2k machine price for the bike. i know its a low budget. but please help me out.

the bike i am looking for should be

-big tank

-around 30km/l

-big rear wheels.

considering Sp. but not willing to spend that much on fuel and 2t every month.:faint: any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if possible please list the bikes and their maintanence cost every 2-3 months. thanks alot in advance.

phantom?

cheap, easy to maintain, bulletproof engine.

naked bike i say cbf 150?

honestly ts, cruisers actually fit your criterias better than sportsbike so you can consider them.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

My YBR125!

Petrol for 1 month --> About 30 bucks.

Maintenance EO + Sparkplug (once every 2 months) --> $7.25

12L tank.

Definitely more than 30km/l.

If by big rear wheels you mean large tire width, Yamaha's TW200 is probably your only option within your budget. Practically all 2B motorcycles use puny tires.

i was thinking of getting a cruiser too. but im only 19. and some would say cruisers would suit more for an "uncle".

aside from phantom and daelim daystar are there any other 2b cruisers?

btw, thanks in advance.

you shouldn't let anyone else question your decision for a bike.

afterall it is your money, your choice, not theirs.

anyway, the bajaj pulsar, daelim roadwin(naked version) and ybr 125(with magical fuel penguins!) are possible choices you can look at. check the bike community section for more on maintainence and cost.

good luck!

I can go 500km on a fuel tank, but i don't dare go any further. So one month about 1000km.

I change EO and sparkie once every 2 months. As you can see, only 2000km then i change EO and spark plug. I can go for longer but i don't wanna be too cheap. I ever went never change EO for 5 months, (1000 * 5) = 5000km on fully synthetic Maxima Extra, but the damn oil was so little by then that when i checked it after 5 months plus, it was left 1/12 on my dipstick level. The sparkplug was still running fine. I just cleaned it and regaped it again. But the heat really caused the side electrode to bend towards the central electrode.

However, the China parts tend to degrade much faster than any other non-china made bikes and you got to take care of it. The chain always have to adjust very often.

go and calculate the distance from home to school, all your going out with friends, meet gf etc. + a few hundred more km. divide by the fc of sp. i think about 25km/l? lets say 1 month 1000km.

1 month:

petrol: 40l=$72.

season parking: $15-18. some pple save on this, some dun need to pay.

ERP and other parking: $20. maybe you can save on this. i dunno.

insurance 1 year for you lets say 1k.

insurance 1 month: $83

maintainence of bike: maybe put aside $20 a month. no idea the maintainence of sp, this is to factor in your engine oil, 2t, spark plugs. pray hard nothing major needs to change.

are you still following the calculations so far? its about $210 a month. haven calculate road tax and inspection also.

i put in insurance etc so that you wont have a rude shock at the end of the year and realise you didnt set aside $$ for it.

AND still havent factor in tyre, chain and sprocket, lets say these lasts for maybe about 1.5 years. you divide the cost by 18 months.

ready to commit? parents allow? go for it..

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

to be honest. SPs are getting a bit old already. so if you do not have the "rainy Day bike repair" fund, you may end up with a horrid time on the bike.

also, as with all 2nd hand bikes, when you first buy it, you will actually find that you need to spend a little on repair some on the stuffs on the bike ( maybe not all, but at least for me), so besides the 2k for the machine price, you might need a couple of hundreds more.

having said that, i think some of the guys here actually gave some good suggestions, plusar, phantom, ybr etc. with petrol prices so high now, they are your best bet. I've got friends laughing at me at the pumps! KNN!

do inform when you buy your bike. cheers

When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.

got box got tour.

Always ride safely and defensively.

Repair bike cheap and fast,

Repair body expensive and slow.

you gotta check with the shops on this. i suggest you bring a friend along too.

make sure they give you the breakdown of the cost of the bike.

ASK for OTR price.

get the break down of the cost (i Have to say this twice)

but having said that, the problem with a small downpayment for loans is that your break even period is quite long. and if you stretch your loan, you find that you end up paying a lot more for your bike.

IMHO, i think for increased grip a tire width of 160 and above is generally preferably. I was not specific earlier when I said "puny". Apologies.

To my knowledge, 2b bikes, other than the TW, do not match or exceed this tire width. Hence, I consider their tires small. If there are other 2B bikes that meet this minimum tire width, I would like to expand my knowledge and know.

I also consider skinny tires a health hazard due to a variety of other reasons involving braking and traction, but this is just my personal opinion. There are many large capacity bikes that get themselves into hot soup as well.

i could be wrong, but i saw on forum someone put 170/70 tires on a roadwin before.. anyway... 150/70 tires can fit on roadwin.. and thats quite big already i guess... considering rider intend to ride on road, not track. tire compound grade play a part too.. big tires but lousy grip.. small tires but with GP grip... see ur pref i guess..

racing in traffic...
