maybe, just maybe, owners are selling their new bike after a year riding them is because of the "feeling". New bikes's bolts and nuts are tighten to a specified number of torque.

Now, when you go servicing, eg. tighten ur chain, change tyre etc etc, the mechanics here tighten the nuts and bolts just using their feeling. They don't use torque wrench.

if you think tightening the nuts and bolts to a torque-specified number are ridiculous, look at the following video where kawasaki and honda's staffs are tightening nuts and bolts to a specified torque. they made torque-specified tightening process as a part of the assembly procedure.

Kawasaki: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YI0EfI1VWo&feature=PlayList&p=480DE4344A55CF1F&playnext_from=PL&index=43

Honda: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcfQswhb8Qg&feature=PlayList&p=480DE4344A55CF1F&playnext_from=PL&index=42

Just my 2 cents.

My partner does his own maintenance for that reason.

As far as possible he gets the service manual of whatever bike he has (usually sports, and usually 2nd hand bikes). All nuts and bolts are tightened to the specified torque. Mechanics in our local workshops aren't as meticulous.

I see many people wants to buy brand new bike from 2B, 2A and class 2..

and most bought with loan plans and heavy interest rate..

but then i hardly see anyone ride until loan finish but shortly sell off again in Garage Sale..

so.. the question is "why people buy brand new bike.. when they can buy cheaper second (or third) hand."

2B.. people rush to buy RS125, R15, Derbi, .. even phantom, i once knew people pay 6k for brand new phantom and sell again 1 year later at less than half the price.

2A.. there are tons of super 4 in garage sale yet they go for brand new.. and sell again 1 year later.

Same for GSR..

2.. i hardly meet any rider who owns brand new bike for 10 years.

you can find many 1 year old bikes in garage sale.. selling at loss, even on machine price, let alone interest that added for loan period..

mostly on sports bikes.. which depreciates crazily yet people still go for them.

anyone can share some thoughts ? :shy:

i'll say just coz u dun see em, does not mean they are not there!

im sure there are many ppl with the same mindset. but of course, our minds will focus on the "WAH LAU EH?!?! LIKE THAT also buy ARH?!?! SIAOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!" examples and tend to neglect other (more positive) instances.

if u look at the car market, lagi siong, at least b4 the freaking coe sky-rocketed.. 1 year can lose 8k and more.. bottomline, they happy.

buy new bike is better that old ones... you buy 2nd hand bike mostly got problem de then they sell off...

not necessarily true.. there are many 1~3 year old bikes which hardly give you problem, or some bikes are running fine for 10 years

e.g Africa Twin, ST11.

do you know any ?

if you can see yourself keeping the bike for the next 10 years why not

anyway if nobody bought new bikes, where would all the 2nd hand bikes come from?

i bet got some uncles out there who bought the bike brand new for transport and continue riding it until it's no longer economical to retain

(actually if you buy a brand new with that kind of mindset, it does make quite a lot of sense leh)

personally i will buy first hand if possible, cause i am the kind that like to keep the bike long term, esp. if it is my transport bike

i am just saying for majority of bikers here.. i have one neighbor uncle, keeping his TW for 18 years.. since brand new, still warming up every other day, and his bike looks good as new.

and a few friends keep bikes for collection.. ofcuz they can afford it.

well, like swiftee said... we need people who want to buy brand new.. so we can enjoy 2nd hand discounts

if the bike you want, but nobody want to sell.

i wonder what bike would it be ?

take a look at garage salle, there are 2 duke street fighters, a few 1098 with tons of mods and accessories.

kawa GT concourse, triumph, MV Agusta, Harleys are there for your choice.

too exotic ? there are many super4, Fazer 1 and 6, and even wave and spark, people still buy brand new and sell off after 1 year. :dozed:

You've answered your own question: "Is it worth the cost?"

To some, it's worth the cost; to others, the money saved is more worthwhile.

Almost everything can be bought or sold. It's mostly a matter of the right price.

I'd rather buy used bikes where potential downside has already been factored into the lower price.

:sorry: :offtopic:

those are the hot favorites la

maybe those that are not so high profile like dn-01 where there are already very few on the road, the chances of one being sold on forum will be even lower

or newer model like ktm sm-t (which incidentally is one of my future target bikes :p), r125, for people who dont wish to coi somebody else's bad installment plan

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

Patience will always be rewarded.

Or impatience. I haven't even got Class 2 yet already bought a Ducati M696 from the Garage Sale (I'm 3rd owner).

If you really want the bike, just have to wait till the right one comes along. That's just how it is with buying used bikes. You can always get a cheap one to use in the meantime.

Been riding for the past 5+ yrs now.

Just Passed Bought 2nd hand TZM ($5k) , Ride it Nearly 1+ year than Trade In 1st hand Wave (Paid Nothing) , Sold off wave after riding it for 2+ yrs & bought 1st hand Fazer1000 ($19K) , ride it for abt 1 year sold off & buy 2nd hand 125z ($2.4K) Ride it after 1yr sold off & bought 2nd hand spark ($3k) -current- .

sian cant managed to ride more than 5 yrs or more. Every time wen i wanna buy a new/used bike , i alwaes say to myself that i will ride this bike & wont sell it off or after 5 yrs But in the end i lied to myself. cos every time see good bike or oreadi sian sure wanna grab other bikes cos wanna have "feeling", maybe this is my habit & i believed some riders out there is da same too . Now just realised that its not as worth as saving $$$. From class 2b than jump to class 2 than back to 2b. haizzz.. might aswell ride 2b all the way from the start.:(

I haven't bought a new bike before.

If I buy brand new, it must probably be because I will want to keep it till the COE runs out and renew afterwards.

So far don't have yet.

Buy 2nd hand, sell 3rd hand. Buy 3rd hand, sell 4th hand.

Now i got two >10 yr old bikes below my backside.

My Rides:

LuLu, Piaggio Gilera Runner FXR 180 (Feb05-Aug05)

PhanPhan, Honda Phantom TA 200 (Aug05-July07)

TiTi, Yamaha Majesty YP250 (Jul07-Oct09)

There's exotic bikes that money can't buy bro.... KTM Duke 2 with hi-flo engine.. I'd pay good money if the only few owners willing to sell..

cos i usually buy to keep, unless i buy for play testing (like the vespa, i want to sell now)

if brand new, high chance wont sell liao.

1 thing is the loss that can be incurred

2 thing is like what i said, if i buy brand new, must be i want to buy and keep. Like my Dyna now, I dun buy brand new not because I no $$$, but I dunno if I will like Dyna or not. Sit and ride short distance dun give u the overall big picture. So i wont know how long I will keep. Thus, if this is the situation, I try 2nd hand instead. Until I try a 2nd hand bike that I will want to keep, I will then sell it and aim for brand new. To that extent la.

I dunno siaolang ride it for full 10 years or not, but I know he ride until renew COE.

Some ppl just like brand new stuff lol.

Anyway, there is also saying that buying 2nd hand bike, here break down, there break down. Money spent on overhaul can buy a new bike.

Riding for over 12 years...never brought a new bike before. The key to buy 2nd hand bike is abit of luck and how you choose the bike. If suay, get problemetic 2nd hand bike also headache.

Since i took riding lessons years ago, i was drooling over american bike mags and all those big cc bikes. Dont know anything about small bikes. Its true small cc bikes tend to have problems more than big bikes, big cc have higher rpm and torque, average rider can never trash the engine. All my big bikes 2nd hand no problems, virago 1100, steed400, rvf400. But skipper125, vespa150, electrical prob here n there. finally bought a xj900 brand new, 8th year already, my keeper.
