Nope for me. Reason being i don't have the luxury of e start and my kick starting skill is not as efficient as e start. No sure abt the engine part.

I'm sorry but this question made me LOL. Why on earth would you want to do that?

ya lol. maybe to save fuel or something? but impractical for me since im a kickstarter...maybe for big bikes it makes a diff since their FC higher? especially for those traffic light nid to wait super long. my dad used to do it sometimes for the car. but will stress the battery?

If I hit you and you hit me, and I hit you back and you hit me back, and go on, you see, that goes on ad infinitum. It just never ends. Yeah, cos when stationary the bike heat Is quite high and due to racing kata quite hard to put neutral , so usually I will jus go till a traffic

light control junction and off the engine , will it make the starter/spark plug or stuff lifespan to decreases ?

i off occasionally esp jam...

big bikes cannot stay staionary or go slow for too long...heat up very fast...

True but does it lower the lifespan of our starter / spark plug / battery or any other problem ?

Alternatively you could try wearing leathers instead of shorts. It might deal better with the heat than bare skin. The heat, the smell, the sound are all part of riding a bike to me. Having your leg hair curling underneath your leathers is not as bad as it sounds!

Personally I still think it's rather illogical, but whatever floats your boat.

With respect to your original question, unless you make a practice of cranking the e-start for 5-10s each time, it's unlikely to cause additional wear to your starter.

Fuel-wise, if it's that worrying, you should be riding a 50cc cub.

at times i do that when i'm waiting at a major junction and the temp exceeds 100 deg cel. big bikes heat up very fast like what ghost04 mentioned.

your starter motor will spoil if you do that at every traffic light junction you come across.

Some ppl really talk horse ****

To stop your engine overheating, then if got long wait at traffic light, then ok to off engine. Cos no wind taking heat from the radiator or engine itself.

The only minus is each time you restart your enginie, then it saps your battery. So if you are at place with big Q like causeway and your battery nearly gone, then off-ing and on-ing the engine will drain all the battery away.

Also when you off engine, the lights also sapping the battery since alternator no longer generating electricity.

My FZ6 handbook also says can off the engine when idling for a long time at traffic light.

I have done this a few times when critically low on petrol (as in, running on the last few drops) but no other good reason for this practise.

I now ride a machine that dislikes idling a lot due to heat buildup; my solution is just to avoid jams altogether.

only 600 above need to do that when u reach red light, for others,no point.

lol you make my day :p

You have about 5 seconds warning before the light turns green - look at the opposing traffic lights. Actually, make that 15-30 seconds if the opposing side has a turn arrow signal. Once that comes on start kicking away.
ya we bikers always look for the opp light to judge when to move:)

haha.. i only recalled switching off the engine when I was taking my 2A lessons / Circuit Revisions, where i had to wait like for eternity for my turn at the S-course and e-brake; and the yamaha bike (I'm not sure which model) at Comfort heats up very fast.

For my Spec 1 Vtec, it sure heats up much more than my old Ta150, but so far I haven't felt any need to switch off the engine at traffic lights.
