Though still in the process of taking my 2B licence, I'm still wondering whether to get a new or used bike as my 1st bike?

Any suggestion:help:?

imho.... 1st bike get used. you are new to riding and you haven't realize what bike is your style or the real situation or expectations of your ride. You always think you know what you want, but when u actually get it, your perception/needs/wants/style may change.

easier to offload a 2nd hand bike and cheaper in terms of depreciation. 1st hand, you are stuck with it and if you want to change bike, you have to lose alot of $$ in terms of depreciation for first hand goods.

If you do decide to get a brand new bike, make sure you down a decent downpayment amount for it (full cash would be better)...

Used. You can have a choice to upgrade when you get a 2A if you find 2B bikes under-powered after riding for some time. If you got a new bike, the depreciation and outstanding payments will make you think twice and you may get stuck with a machine you do not like as much later on.

And with used bike, you may experience some issues, be it major or minor, with the bike. It's all part of learning process, you will end up more experienced on how to deal with those.

And as a new 2B, it's inevitable that you may experienced some stationary drops or touchwood, mishaps, you will feel more heart pain if it was a shiny new bike.

So don't commit to a bike first, ride around and maybe when you are a more experienced 2B, like say 6 months after licence, your head will be more clear on what you want and need. Usually, the earlier period of obtaining your licence, you will be very tempted to get a bike, this is a good period for bike shops to carrot you as you likely to OK OK to their every word.

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

Actually I'm not thinking to upgrade to 2A...2b should be sufficient for me...After reading all the suggestions, I'm more towards new bike as I'm not keen to visit to workshop frequently should I'm unlucky enuff to buy a problematic used bike..:cheeky:

Yes. YBR is cheaper. Cheaper than Spark, X1-R, FZ150i, RX-Z etc.

First bike never buy new, unless you're rich and you dun mind losing out a few thousands in resale. You dun know you will be riding for long term or short term, as many things can happen during the first year.

My rule is dun spend over $3k for a used 2B bike.

Always get a used bike for a first bike. It's less risky and you can afford to mess around more while learning about motorcycles.

A brand new bike is like a glass cannon - it's kind of heart pain to get it damaged so erm, don't dare to have fun, lol!

As for spending 3k on a used bike, I just did that - wanted a Phantom so I could compete in the unofficial "whose Phantom lasts the longest" competition :D

Get cheap bike to last through 2B years, soon you'll be craving for multiple cylinders and enough power to reach 200kph :D

And as the next post goes - YBRs are fantastic.

I wanted to get a first hand bike cause i know that i will keep the bike for a long time. In the end, i got a second hand YBR because of monetary problems, or rather, the lack of it.

My advice to TS is that, if you KNOW you gonna keep the bike for a long time, i'd say buy first hand.

I still have my YBR now and i will keep it for the next 3 years at least. :D

Hmmm bike shop which I can think of, Looi's Motor, ASPhoon, Mah Motor, Bike Production...

Service and pricing, I guess the rest of the riders can fill them up.

Yes, YBR and FZ150i are good choice of commuting bike!

bike is a machine without soul, rider would inject new life and character to this machine

I think its true leh. My gf dad's never got his 2A. Whole life riding 2B. For me, i dont intend to take Class 2 unless i am really free. Don't really intend to ride class 2 bike.

Haha.
