Jehovah's Witnesses

Just want to clear the air .... things are going intertwined..... Jehovah's Witnesses have a cult status in singapore ... Mormons have no links to JW and mormons are a denomination of christianity and is perfectly legal in singapore just like other christianity denominations .... Yesh .... mormons orginated from Salt Lake City in the US ... mormons have their won bible 'Book of Mormons' in addtion to the testaments. .... the people you see on the streets are missionaries from all over the world and they bore a black tag. I know some pple consider then unorthodox especially in the US ... but they are in no way of cult status and illegal.

well.. to them it's a religion, but it's not approved officially in Singapore I guess. Just like Falungong. In China u are not allowed to practise Falungong. But here in Singapore, the goverment does not condemn the falungong as long as they do not preach or practise their mass sit-out thingy in public.

They would then be deemed to have gathered illegally without a permit.

However, I don't really noe whay jehovah's witness believe in... or practise. Maybe can look it up in Wikipedia!

my cousin from malaysia encounter a relationship problem with jw member. Her bf of 3 years relationship pester her to join jw, he told her that jw are to be only with jw people, he encourges her to join. however, my cous finds the religion kinnda scary,so she refuse.. the bf then suggested that they part as religion is to be respected and follow... for that my cous was heart-broken and felt dissappointed about him..

just stumbled on this thread again... i sorta of noe about the saf's procedures for JW cos that time my unit did mono-intake enlistment and we were briefed..i was the docu clerk.

 

Actually i not sure if JW is banned in singapore. But definitely cos of the fact that they dun swear allegiance to the state and the flag, and dun carry arms for the state, hence they are treated as ppl who refuse to serve (there's a term for it, can't really remember).

 

As opposed to other ppl who don't wanna serve, JW once they cleared their gardening in DB are released and then never called up. It's probably more than 2 yrs since u wanna deter ppl from pretending to be JW and escaping siong ns.. There is no pt forcing them to serve, as they never will.

 

My advice is dun keng n say u JW...i bet the govt will monitor you for the rest of your life..haha! the moment they can prove u keng..then u see how u die

yup...it is against their beliefs to take arms...so they cannot serve the military...

 

and if you declare yourself as a JW, they will just put you in DB for 3 years...and you are free to go...

 

this...i learnt it while i was serving NS also...

They lead some sort of an Amish life paid for by the government (food and lodging, that is...)

I was from SAFPU and weekly, there would be this JW coming over from DB to cut hair for us for $2. Yes, they do simple jobs like gardening, cooking etc in DB. They are to give up entire 3yrs of their lifetime in DB, no booking-out whatsoever. I'm not sure whether they are allowed visitors though.

 

This particular guy who always come over to cut hair sounds/looks just like any average joe. He chit chat with me just like a normal chap, and he was from polytechnic before he went to DB.

 

That's all about what i know about JW, until i read the wikipedia link jkaiser posted previously.

Yeah, my NS was at DB, they do all the area cleaning, cooking and mundane stuff, treated like detainee also but not restricted to cell, they got better privileges and freedom. But some serve bit longer that 3 years, depending on the 'sentence' they get get from SAF. They get visiting privileges once a week but they cannot go out of DB. That time when i was in NS got this old guy, late 30s, think he just convert then kena reservist and he declare JW kena DB for 1 year plus.... Best to just Serve And F***off......

Met a few since I from SAFMPU, but best to steer clear of it. Best to just serve and leave after 2 years. I remember correctly they will be brought into a room during the BMT intake, and there will be a uniform in the room, they will refuse to don the uniform, and after that they will be taken by the MP.

Everybody is free to believe in what he/she thinks is right (or wrong). Our government will only step in when they try to disrupt the interests of the gov't, or when they might cause harm to other people

I have a Jehovah Witness friend. Now he is serving time in DB for 3.5 years.

 

he's a very promising student, top in school and all. wasted!
