The new SAF Frontier boots is not waterproof. Some scholar at the design labs was dumb enough to put his secondary school fantasy design with two freaking holes on the sides into use. Worse still, the two holes are suspended half a centimetre above the base of the boot. This means that its supposedly touted water venting properties is good up to half a centimetre above the base of your feet. I think Ikan Billis can still survive inside. Now the really stupid thing is this-If soldiers have to tilt the boot onto the sides to completely vent the water out drop by drop with their feet in the way and their socks absorbing water, wouldn't it be faster to simply take the boots off your feet and pour the water out?

I cannot imagine how such a silly secondary school fantasy design got approved. It is as if some school kid had a childhood dream that went like "Lets add two holes at the bottom to let the water out!" Teacher says "Yes boy, good idea!" The next thing u know is that they will add some flippers at the bottom so maybe you can walk on water.

Gone shall be the days we all ride around with SAF Goretex boots since this has ceased production. I ran water immersion tests to confirm the material of the new SAF Frontier boots will leak. Even when I sealed off the two holes with Blue Tack, the boot material itself is not waterproof, so this is useless.

Am looking at my first pair of 200+ motorcycling boots.

Thank goodness I am reservist. The new NSFs will increasingly suffer from foot-rot. Mark my words.

Jialat. Heng still have my goretex boots from NCC time. 8 yrs old n still looking good! :)

I'm hanging on to my precious SAF Goretex Boots. I think if I wear that *ahem* "newly-IMPROVED" SAF boots and put some skin-biting fishes in there, I will be having foot spa 24/7... NOOOO!!!

I wonder what good & not-too-expensive alternative to the SAF Goretex Boots I can consider... Umm...

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

ever since i saw this thread a few days back ive been seriously considering getting a pair of my own...would love to get my hands on a waterproof ankle cut riding boot for casual wear and if can go along with my formal work wear even better !! with a budget of below $200

so today earlier i went out to the shops mentioned in tis thread to start my search..

motorworld

kaki bukit branch

falco novo $210

falco 832 $185 (the most "formal" looking of all)

lavender branch

komine gortex bk063 $200

komine goretex bk065 $280

regina

forma diablo $180

puma $220 (forgot which model)

chiong aik

sidi apex $250

sidi streetburner $260

chiap lee

tcx jupiter 2 $220

tcx (forgot which model) $190

well it was a quick one as i begin the search in the late afternoon and had to rush frm one shop to another and i didn't ask much except the model & price if not already stated, note them down and rush to the next place...didnt even ask for discount :cheeky:

was kind of disappointed though as i expect a wide range of riding boots but apparently most are high cuts for touring and especially chong aik i cant find the cheap ones as mentioned by some forumers here..

any other place tat i shall look for ankle cut riding boots besides the places mentioned above? i have my eyes set on falco 832 or komine gortex bk063 though at the moment...anyone bought them before??

May i suggest something else. May be suggested before but u ve reasons. Lt to consider.

Waterproof cover for ur shoes. Motoworld selling $60. It is a rubbery material cover with suitable velcros to wrap around ur shoe. Easy to wear, can fold keep in box, no need change shoe/slipper. Socks also dry (as long as u wear rain pants) brand is konimine. Should be able to find pic from e brand's website

Jupiter 2 is expensive because it's Gore-tex. Try asking for X-street or X-square and X-cube.

$60?! Might as well cover up with plastic bags.

Plastic bag i try before. :) very slippery and flimsy. Flimsy as in after ride a while, e plastic will move around or will tear when i stop.

This item e sole is similar to a boot with e "cuttings". So can wear for walking not an issue. E rear bottom part of ur shoe will be expose also for additional friction, etc. If u c e pic will be more understandable.

Ps: dun understand y $60 then u suggest plastic bag. Then e riding boots u guys discussing is $200+ so buy paper bag?

btw there is a cheaper alternative that u can get from LAB or Regina. i tink i got my rain shoe cover for $18? dun really rmb. its abt 2 years old (granted i dun use it EVERYDAY) but wen the time comes, it holds up well. still no leaks so far.

Ya i believe this type of stuff sure got cheaper alternatives. And fact i believe sometime e cheaper wont lose in quality also. ^^ which is y i thinking of getting tank bag (non bagster) to fit my bagster tank bra. :) all depends on individual ba.

For me i use shoe cover becoz getting more safety conscious thus dun wan slipper. (but should get proper wterproof riding boots instead. ._.) and wanted to not give up too much connivence as i usually ve to wear dress shoes, so slippers wet feet and socks is not a good combo.

Yeah, if you're looking for a compact solution, a rain cover for your shoes is not a bad way to go. And as mentioned above, Ah Boy / Regina would have cheaper alternatives than the Komine.

The suggestion to use plastic bags is downright dangerous. They offer almost no grip at all - you put your foot down when you come to a stop and there's a good chance it'll slip out from under you. Not a pleasant feeling  They're also really flimsy and will tear & leak sometimes within a single ride, thus defeating their purpose. Last but not least, they can easily get caught in your gear lever etc.

I tried plastic bags once in my early days of riding and would never try them again :faint:

If saving a few bucks is more important than your safety, then by all means go ahead. But otherwise you're better off spending $20 on a proper shoe cover - at least it has been designed for the job.

Yeah, I used plastic bags before. Thus said above, all the dangerous notions. Then again, spending $60 on a waterproof covering which you could get it at Regina for $18 is akin to using plastic bags, not at all reasonable.

Would rather save up a bit more to get a proper pair of riding boots.

Currently using Alpinestars Roam but don't think that it fits my purpose of everyday street riding as it's a pair of high cut touring boots. Might be getting a X-cube again, one of the best pair of boots I ever had. The Alpinestars SMX-2 looks darn good too but then again, the pricing turns me off.

which is y i thinking of getting tank bag (non bagster) to fit my bagster tank bra.

Mmm, I do believe that only Bagster tank bag is able to fit onto a Bagster tank bra? Since there are proper clips and hooks for it. If not, ditch it in favour for a magnetic tank bag? There's a pretty alright magnetic tank bag by Rjays, currently sold by Regina.

Tried plastic bag only once and took off at e next traffic light. Very bad idea. Reasons already given by previous post. Lol

E reason y i bought $60 is becoz i am stupid but dun really like to buy things at those places u mention. I dun go for e super high end but i am not very keen on e low end either. Usually try to in between.

basically ur akin to plastic bags is due to e fact tat cheaper version is $18. I am telling u tat e waterproof cover i am usin is no where like plastic bag. Maybe u should check out e product? It has a rubber sole for front btm part which allows friction = or better than ur normal shoe. It wraps around ur shoe entirely until above ur ankle close to saf boots height. It allows for connivence for those who needs to wear their own shoes for any kind of reasons.

1) it doesnt tear like plastic.

2) it doesnt slip like plastic

3) it doesnt move around like plastic (provided u velcro it fittingly)

4) it doesnt affect e way u ride or catch onto ur gears (provided u velcro it properly)

So i do not noe y u keep saying "akin to using plastic bag". Maybe i am stupid thus dun understand. But pls kindly explain. Bottom line i believe tat a proper riding boot waterproof is much much better in terms of protection and variety of reasons. But i wan to wear my own shoes. And i am lazy to bring so many items (wearin riding shoe = bring extra shoe)

Additionally u suggest save more to get a proper riding shoe. $60 x 2? $60 x 3? Seems tat e discussion price range is > $200. Maybe i missed some of e cheaper options.

I'm not saying it's not good. I'm saying that $60 to me is unreasonable when there are cheaper options for that purpose, so no worries there. I'm not putting your waterproof covering down.

If it's good to you then go ahead and enjoy it, whatever that rocks your boat, man.

Just like how I paid $400 for a armoured jacket when a $120 variant would suffice. You and me have different beliefs.

Most importantly, we should feel that our purchases are worth the amount. There's simply no need to justify it to others.

Oh yeah, back to waterproof riding shoes.

I chose to get a pair of riding boots cause it has the appropriate ankle and shin protection, as well as a hard toe. These are very useful in reducing the amount of damage received in the event of an accident.

Had a friend who currently have a metal plate and few screws in his ankle due to the fact that after he crashed into another vehicle and roll away from bike, another vehicle went over his right feet, crushing his ankle cause it was unprotected (he was just wearing slippers). He related to me this incident and often stressed upon on wearing proper riding foot wear.

Glad to see that nowadays there are more people willing to wear armoured jackets but there are too many who neglect the need for safety gears, especially footwear.

As some users have mentioned, the Alpinestars Ridge is a good buy from Regina. Also, been looking online and the Tourmaster Solution 2.0 waterproof riding boots is a fantastic buy with good reviews, could get it shipped from Riderdiscount.com for a flat USD$25 shipping fee.

Looks-wise, there are many on the market that serves the purpose of being casual without standing out too much as a pair of riding boots. Such as the Alpinestars SMX-2, TCX X-cube and X-street.

Even touring boots look great with jeans covering the high cut. Nobody knows I'm wearing a pair of touring boots until I mentioned it to them.

Invest in a proper waterproof boots lar. I got tcx Jupiter early this year. Until now I wear it daily. Even wore it up mount Kinabalu. Last time I checked, I was riding in heavy rain for more than two hours on NSHW. reached home, not a drop on my socks. Coupled with my RS Taichi rain coats. Mostly dry. Apart from my fingers. Which I didn't have waterproof gloves at the moment.

Only regret is I dont take care of it well enough. Need to buck up on the cleaning.

Ride safe people!!

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...

Ur saying tat $60 is unreasonable when there r $18 versions is similar to ur saying u will buy $400 when there r $120 variants. Should i say tat ur $400 is unreasonable when there r $120 options? I do not ve tat opinion of ur choice. Again i agree with u on e concept tat as long as we feel our purchases is worth it.

Yes we ve different beliefs where u will rather go for e best/better in ur case $400 and u feel it is reasonable. Yet others buy $60 over $18 is not reasonable and is akin to using plastic bag.

To clarify. I agree with u in terms of protection. i wear mesh armour but ve not considered riding shoes yet.

I just wish to state tat i do not noe wat e $18 variant will offer. If it is e same as $60 by all means. Im all for saving extra $ where possible as long as function stays.

I also wish tat my suggestion is NOT a alternative to protection. Some may feel wearing cover is better than not but i do agree with lexanez regards to his examples and importance. I just dun understand nor do i agree with his comparison to plastic bags. :)

Maybe in e first place my suggestion was off topic since e thread is waterproof riding boots where as my suggestion is a cover on top of ur shoes (can be riding boots still as i believe waterproof adds on to e price tag and waterproofing is less breathable)

Wow. Chill guys. Everyone has their opinion. I jux suggest a cheaper alternative to the Komine shoe cover. Dats all. Its up to the consumer to choose which is better.

I say this cux there are occasions whereby its convenient to wear riding boots (e.g. Go town shopping how to walk in shin-high boots) but at d same time i also hv waterproof riding boot (forma fly evo) that i wear on occasions where i dun walk much.

I think i c before proper riding boots with protection + waterproof + look good. Didn't remember where since i did not ve the intention to buy. =X Actually i noe got cheaper alternative to the komine shoe cover. But not very comfortable buying from those places. =X

My contention is not on the price anyway. Just the reference to plastic bag. lol. And i hope and i think (i'm assuming) Lexanez is the same as me whereby we r just discussing/debating rather than in a arguement. Thus there's no need for chilling.

I'm not too sure whether the sidi boots that you listed are waterproof. Based on my search online, it doesn't seem so. on a sidenote, revzilla.com does not list the 2 models under waterproof boots

Yep, it's all but a friendly debate.

^^ for me is partly due to work thus cant really get riding boots.

1) often ve to wear dress shoe.

2) ve 2 office (not near) and often ve to go site which is around sg

Base on e above if i wan to get waterproof riding boot mean often ve to bring extra shoe lo. Then wet riding boot also need settle as on site wont always ve storage. And i experience before keep wet stuff in box will ve hard to remove smell. :(

If i desk bound job will confirm riding boot. But i noe this is ultimately just a excuse. ._.
