Hi people. Recently my right ear got blocked. I went to the doctor and he said I got sinus. He said its probably you inhaled too much dust on the road since I work as a rider. He recommend me to wear something to protect my mouth and nose. Do you think wearing a mask is a OKAY or just abit too cocky for singaporeans and its roads?

Why care what other people think of u being cocky? Its for your own health concerns bro. I'm sure u dun want your condition to worsen just because u are afraid/paisey cos others think u are cocky.

I myself wear a fullface helmet and underneath that i put on a buff, balaclava style. Some of my friends say i Yaya Papaya, but end of the day, its my own health and safety that i'm concerned with, so i dun give a rat's ass to what they say.

And to answer your question, yes, i think its a OKAY.

:D:cool:

agreed... full face may be more uncomfortable to wear but when an accident happens, majority of the impact will land on the rider's jaw area....

even now if i wear my half-face helmet i dont feel as secure as when i wear my full-face...

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

i either wear a buff or balaclava every single day i ride. So wats so cocky abt that? I breath less dust for my own health wat. Why bother if its other ppl thinking. Especially shallow ppl. Hahaha.

yup i use a buff too..it benefits us when it comes to helmet odour n stuff..it also helps us with inhaling lesser bad stuff..a full face helmet is a safety issue that some ppl make it as an individual choice that can be greatly compromise but to me it is a must for a million reason tt can overshadow the common excuse of 'singapore weather hot' and stuff...

For the ignorant ones, Pain is the best teacher. Fools will kill themselves out, don't worry too much about them.

Anyone can ride a bike. Being a biker, is a state of mind.

Just wanna share my own experience:

I met with my 2nd major accident in 2006. I made it a point to wear proper a full-face helmet, gloves, jacket and boots after the 1st.

However on that fateful day I was not wearing the jacket and gloves due to the rain the day before (hung to dry).

I broke my arm (could have been prevented as the jacket had protectors at the exact spot where I broke it) and bruised by palms (also could have been prevented). Suffered a month long sprain on my ankle (even when I did wear boots)

The jaw of the full-face helmet had a few deep cuts (suffered no injuries to my handsome face)

Now I don't care. I just have to wear them, no matter what....especially when it rains.

I've seen dudes chuckling at me when I ride my class 2B bike with the apparels on. But not even a grin when I ride my class 2 bike.

These dudes have low IQs and neglible logical thinking ability because they think that the bumpers of the cars only goes for the heads of big bike riders.

But I must admit that wearing a buff, balaclava in singapore may be too much as it is not necessary (more for showboating)

The primary purpose of a balaclava is to keep you warm... A normal surgical mask under your full-face helmet will do as it filters out micro particles better compared to the former.

Well each of its own preference la. I tell you a scenario. I started wearing buff and balaclava in my riding group. And as expected they all laugh. Well laugh all they can and all they want i dun mind. Cos i have my reason and they ask me wats the reason? Robbing a bank.

Well my reason very simple. When you wear a helmet on a hot day, the next day your helmet will stink of your sweat and prolong it, your helmet sponge will wear faster due to germs and bacterias. And you hardly wash your helmet inner foam if im correct.

So why not get a buff and balaclava to absorb the sweat and wash every week? And till now my helmet smell FRESH and you smell theirs is like Ewwww...

So spare a thot for your next pillion who needs to use the helmet. Buff is very thin so its not hot wearing it. and of cos it does only minimal absorbing of sweat. But definately your facial cheek oil will all be taken care of by the buff rather than your helmet sponge cheek pads.

Till to date i have 4 buffs and 1 balaclava. And i use the balaclava for Thai trip. FANTASTIC. Yes its hot, but not wearing it you will also sweat on that trip. But i can wash it every stop. So i get a fresh feeling when i wear my helmet the next day but the others.... hohoho stinky helmet for the next 10 days.

So now i see more and more buff user in my riding khakis.

Glad to know there are riders like you that wear balaclava :) Ever since I started wearing balaclava with my FF, I never had to wash the helmet liner, just wash balaclava every few days.

Last time never wear balaclava with FF, every week wash helmet liner, it still smells bad. And I don't just wash with soap, I use Dettol as well, but the smell is still there.

I read that it is not just the sweat that gets to the liner, but also dead skin cells from our face every time we remove and put on the helmet that accumulates deep in the liner that causes the bad smell.

Don't people find it unhygienic to wear a bad smelling helmet with all those germs from the sweat and dead skin? Some more the smell sticks to your face after you take off the helmet.

Get a balaclava, and no more smelly and unhygienic helmets!
