thanks all for ur replies..

turned out to be the battery..

weird cos I just changed my batt last November.. and I have not added any electronic gadgets whatsoever. the bike is stock!

only thing that might drain the batt is the ERP IU..

well I don't ride very often, maybe once in 4-5 days..

now with the new batt it starts up heartily, but lets see how long that lasts! haha.

glad you resolved with the new battery. so now you know the battery was the issue but y? work backwards from the battery. erp iu in standby draws very very negligible amps (unless faulty IU) and you need not ride the bike for more than 2 weeks but still should start. alternator, rectifier/regulator, cables needs checking. besides, on my 1150, if you turn the key beyond the OFF position, it will activate the 'park' light which of coz dries up the batt. not sure about your 1200. cheers

Just to share . When I'm on oversea trip. The bike was left for 4-5days at the Carpark. When I try starting it. The dash board goes black out and the bike start. After a few ride it fine but when i left it for 2-3 days it happen again . Guess the battery needs a good running in (charging) after a long period of under usage.

Yeah i used to experience the same before this incident.. The dashboard display will black out as the bike cranks.. Sounded like coughing rather than cranking. Haha. Definitely a sign of weak batt..

The batt was just changed in nov 13! Puzzling how it can drain in just a few months.

Now with the new batt it starts strongly like it should.

Previously I had this problem as well, sent to PML, advised by them to connect IU to headlight instead of battery... Problem solved!

Thats a gd idea, will possibly do that the nxt time i head to the mech!

Yeah im puzzled too. And i agree that the iu shouldnt draw so much as to knock out a batt in a few days!

Cos i last rode 2 days before the batt died?

Anyway i turn the key beyond the off position just to lock the handlebars, but no parking light activated.

Will just wait n see how long this new batt holds up, if the same symptoms start showing in the same timeframe then gotta do more in depth checks as u mentioned already.

Thks anyway!

Make sure that the Shorai battery is not discharged to below 7.5V. Once it hits that level, battery is dead and not recoverable, according to internet wisdom. BMW bikes supposed to have the worse parasitic drain of all bikes; plus we have the IU to contend with.

So far the best value I had used is the acid filled at the start Yuasa. The Yuasa GEL sealed is great but quite spendy. Shorai is new technology and not cheap; and you will see that the internet opinions on it are divided.

Also there has been cases where BMW batteries are of lousy batch and starts sulfidating sooner than expected. My F8 had that problem; within 1 yr and my bike had problem starting. Initial thought it could be a switch problem cos battery showed healthy voltages. Only when my bike really died and sent it to the shop and problem was discovered. Battery just could not give enough juice to the bike to start.

Sorry bro,

That was what Paul.told me.

39k is the pre launch price and thereafter will be 42k.

Perhaps someone who has been.enquiring the price at.pml recently can verify.

Anyway i found this March pricelist.

Yes it did state 39k.

But bear in mind the launch was only at the end of March. Could be as what Paul mention the pre launch price of 39k

Prices could have changed now if what Paul say is true.

Rezasmess is not wrong. No doubt the CURRENT machine price is 39k, the specs are different as the pre-launch specs. I.e dynamic , comfort, touring. in order for you to get all three (dynamic comes as standard) there is an additional of 3k which makes up to 42k.
