Mediacorp/Local TV productions sucks

If I wanted to watch some good TV series, I would watch

- Lie To Me

- Battlestar Galactica

- Mentalist

 

Not "Point of Entry" ..... That one can enter the backside.

i don't find myself allocating time for TV anymore, compared to many years back. i would be looking forward to watching TV back then. even simple programmes like 搞笑行动 or triple 9 were so entertaining, now i only find myself watching the Noose, or turn on the TV for some taiwanese variety show when im eating my food.

 

Worse thing is..... Too many non-singaporeans in our ch 8 dramas. Nothing against non-local artistes, but if local productions consist of too many expatriate artistes, I feel that we might be losing our national identity quicker than we'd expect.

 

I last watched local TV in 1998. Did I miss anything?

haha the noose news is so true.. represents singaporeans.... mediacorp all are robots acting lah for the sake of money and fame.... movies played on ch5 also like itts always repeating.. plus advertisement nonstop.lame..... i'd rather listen to radio than watch tv .....

Interesting to note, i realised i was captivated by some hk serial reruns from the 80s and 90s shown on tvb. Just channel surfing only, whereas channel 8 or channel u, i really cannot last more than 5 mins watching their story progress!!

In summary.

 

Channel 5 - Good at copycat of the Western World. Games/Crime Dramas/Soap Operas.

However, none can make it. You can see if the US Drama has a big hit like Survivor or CSI, you will see our own Amazing Race and Point of Sodomy almost IMMEDIATELY and you feel it's deja vu...

 

 

Channel 8 - Used to be awesome. I am a non-Chinese but I enjoy it so much with my family. Army Series, Air Force, Navy, The Awakening, On The Fringe. Darn, I could name it all day long and smile. But now, it's either Jessica Seet being lost in a love triangle (always!) or that "wood" chap who acted retard (He's just a pretty face anyways)

 

Suria - Family feud. Family take drugs. Single parents. Mommy married wrong step father whom abused her kids sexually. Didn't take care of aging parents. Teenage gangster. Repeat from Family feud again and loop this sequence and kiss my a55.

 

 

Vasantham - Always dancing, Always Sivaji Ganesan black and White, Always Rajinikanth. I miss the Hindi movies a lot!

 

CNA - Excellent.

 

OKTO - Always cartoon cartoon cartoon.

 

 

Having said that, I still am in love with Rui En. She's just one fine sweetheart.

That Point of Sodomy drama leading chick, she's lovely too. With lots of attitude and funky slit eyes. I love her!

I cant even remember when was the last time I sat down to watch an episode of local production.

 

Sometimes, we yearn for the good old days.

Its not because of rose tinted glasses, its because the 80s and probably early 90s is the golden period of local drama. Simple as that.

 

Nowadays, you need black, opaque tinted glasses in order to survive watching an hour of the televised crap.

He mentioned that in the 90s and early 00s, the CEO of Mediacorp aimed high. he wanted Singapore to be the hub of TV, thus he was very interested in the productions and let the directors and producers have a free reign. After he left, the new CEO who succeeded him decided to make more profits instead, so he just cut cost here and there, when the contract of a staff (director/producer/actress/actor) is up, he will negotiate like a miser. Thank goodness he has left, hopefully the new CEO will be able to remedy the situation.

Simple script is one thing. Wooden acting and cliched characters are worse. The ABC leading man's character is so cliched that I cringed just to see his wooden acting and one dimensional 'upright' persona.

 

Thumbs down from me.
