Hello, what I can share is the process for Australia..

While I dont promise the info to be 100% correct, I'll try to regurgitate those stuff that I read off the Australian embassy.

*Assuming you do not have any sponsors (relatives staying in Australia) you'll be looking at Skilled Migrants Programme.*

1. Your profession has to be one of those listed in the SOL (Skilled Occupation List) you can find the list in the Australian Immigrations website.*

2. You have to be not more than 50 years old

3. I cannot really remember the third condition, but it's quite a lenient one. I'm thinking it's the 'point' thingy.

Point no. 1. In order to show that you are indeed in the profession, you must have your profession 'certified' by an accredited body. Speaking for my profession as an example, I have to get accredition from Engineers Australia. From then on, all my professional certification has to be certified true copy and sent to Engineers Australia for review. At the same time, I'll have to send all my testimonials, degree, GCE level certs over to Engineers Australia. (I'm pretty sure for other professions, the accrediting body will process your education and professional experiences at the same time).

However, if your profession is listed in the SOL, but your degree is not recognized, you have another option; by means of leverage from your work experience. There's a separate form to fill up.*

Cost to get accredited, application fee is about 200+ AUD. If application is not successful, you will have to do that again.*

Concurrently, while you're having your certs certified, you must go take an english proficiency test, and get a score of at least 7. You'll be tested on phonetics, written and aural. The test can be taken at the British Council. Cost of test is about 300+ AUD.*

If you're applying ad a family nucleus, your spouse also will have to possess proficiency in the English Language. If the spouse does not have a university degree, your cost of application will be increased, as the Australian Embassy will charge you for 'tuition fees'. That means, if your application is successful, your spouse will be required to attend school and basic english (WTH?)

Now, you have to sit down and fill in the main application form. with all that, you can kindly attach a cheque of 2000 AUD. The cost is the same for individual or as a family nucleus.*

If at any one time there are missing information, your application will be halted, and you'll be notified as to hat documents need to be furnished. Only upon receipt of the correct document, then the application process will resume.*

On a side note, you can engage the services of an agency to help you will the nitty-gritty of documentation, filing, etc.. For a fee, of course.*

Last but not least, sit and wait for the news.. I heard it can go up to 3 years..

For myself and my wife, I'm trying for it next year!

Please correct me if any of the info is wrong k? And I apologize in advance.*

If its just a matter of sick of living in Singapore. Consider jobs/businesses overseas first, before you ditch sg citizenship.

If me, I'll work in SG, live in Msia. Singapore is simply an expensive place to live in with alot of red tape. By lowering the expenses of your basic needs aka shelter, food etc, you effectively make life cheaper financially. Like save in SG, rent a place here, save enough, go buy a life in Msia or Indon with savings at the side of course.

Relatives all still mostly live in Singapore, besides if I left them and the citizenship, won't be able to see them again unless they make the effort to see me.

For my wife and myself, we want to leave this place is that we,ve had enough of working just to pay off the house. Shouldn't the house be a place of refuge? But instead of feeling rested, we have to make calculations, trim our spending, worry about bills, etc.. That's also the reason why I sold my car.. Shouldn't the car be a convenience? But I'm paying way too much just to get that extra bit of convenience. Not mentioning the jams, errant drivers, road-bullies and the like.. The only convenience I'll get is the bloody zircon and the shelter from rain..

You see, getting stressed out every damn day just for a roof over our head, car (for some), electric bills and shizz. It's not worth it..

While I do not know what are the trade-offs for migrating, but I feel that basic things in life should be more affordable, and working should be a passion, instead of being a rat race.

Australia, cuz it's nearer to my parents, and should they wanna visit, airfare's reasonable too..

A bonus for migrating, there will be wider roads, lower density of vehicles, chance of cooler weather, all helps towards a better riding experience!

The grass is always greener somewhere else. Many have tried and come back. All the blue skies and big roads and cheap petrol cannot replace family and friends. But by all means give it a shot, many people are much happier after emigrating. To each his own.

malaysia is cheap and nearby for those who want it.

even better, work in sg, live in malaysia.

people in malaysia are defintely nicer, simpler, cheaper food and expenses. can get a nice terrace house there instead of a pigeon hole here. with my own personal garden somemore. plenty of nice twisties to ride if you know where to go.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

i feel its better to have tried n come back then to not try at all.. we all only have 1 life to live.. my advice to others is to do a VERY thorough research on the country u want to migrate to.. the best is to talk to people who r living thr or have lived thr b4

I'm thinking of moving to NZ instead. Not becos that I hate living here, but I fell in luv with the place when I was there for a month. In fact, almost bought a house there! I got a feel of living there (instead of just being a tourist) cos I stayed with my MIL & her sister's family who has been there for over 7 yrs.

However, job is limited there and if ur industry is not in the skills shortage list, it is very difficult to get a job offer without a resident status. To get around this, I'm trying to work in Australia through my present company and if I can get an Aus PR, I will be allowed to stay in NZ as well.

I was on the verge of doing all my paperworks for Australia, England and Canada. To get an agency to do all the paperworks will cost you in the near $7k just for 1 country. Australia houses now are A$400 to 600k but of course those big big single storey. but then their interest 6% . Say isnt that like our 3 and 4 rooms HDB prices. In Aussie, no CPF even though their pay higher but their income tax wow. When I went to Perth last year, to eat a a plate of rice was A$10. wow.

Then, you hear how nice the Aussie are towards you when you are a tourist but when the subject becomes you want to work there, they become a bit hoarse (voices). Hey isnt that like singapore. PR, pinoy, China, Indian Indian (not Red) coming to work her.

Then I also applied to work in England. Their income tax 30%. WOW. How to live. Housing dont say. Transport dont say. Maybe can watch ManU everty week but the ticket OH man. Much better get MIO. Then the recent riot. WHY??? Because many foreigner taking their English jobs. Oh is it like here too.????

Gosh!!! globalisation has a price it seems. GOD!!! if you have a plan for me in heaven or hell please dont let me compete??? i hate competition

Hi kzone, I was actually considering that too. I assessed myself, and found out that I have 165 points, due to my profession being in the skills shortage list. Which is not too bad, considerin the threshold is 100 points to quality for application. However, I realized that the main thing is to secure a job over there first, and it will be way easier.

So now I'm trying to talk to some career consultants and ask questions about the working culture in NZ and Aust first.

I guess that should kick off the entire process.

Hi wayang, I have not really did my research about the place proper, and have no idea where to go. :) I'm just looking at how the migration process works and then I'll start off from there.

Come to think of it, I might as well start looking up at the places and spot some potential destinations!

Actually on the other hand, Canada (Quebec, Sierra) does seem quite welcoming too. Sure they're taxes may be high, but for PRs and citizens healthcare is heavily subsidized.

In sg, i am more concerned about my healthcare, considering how 1 cancer can wipe an entire life of savings without insurance. Also as stated by many, the costs of car and house. Also, as much as we have turned into a global city, sure the opportunities has increased, but also it becomes over competitive that the country becomes a gold mine, every body will come and mine, once they've made their gold, they'll just leave.

So! Canada looks nice too. and it's nice and cold =P

"Wolves and sheep will live together in peace, and leopards will lie down with young goats, calves and lion cubs will feed together, and little children will take care of them. Cows and bears will eat together, and their calves and cubs will lie down in peace." Isaiah 11:6-8
