Im working full time and i intend to continue my studies soon. My current job doesnt offer career advancement/prospect. Its the same every single day. I've been working for a year and i earn as much as my colleage who work for 6 years. So i make up my mind to study soon. Im taking part time diploma at ngee ann. But if they don't accept me, prolly have to retake my o levels. Is it a wise decision? I wanna get a good o levels . Its a big risk but you have one shot. Either you do or you dont.

But at the of 23, can i make it ? Im stressed. Anyone? Share the thoughts.

bro.. my initial response is "dont waste time with local poly"

but a more diplomatic & complete reply wud be:

Y dont u consider taking private diploma & then later own pte degree.. u can even do this pt while working.. in 3 yrs fm now, u wud be degree holder

a degree is the very basic key to jobs in sg.. it doesnt guarantee u success, but its puts u in a more level playing field.. of course there are many stories of success without a degree.. but there are many more who struggles through life without it..

Thanks for the response. But im afraid that it might be abit late liao. Later friend all give negative comments. As for private dip, which is recognise ? And for degree, company recognise the private one meh?

Im so stressed please :(((((((((((. Yes. Im keeping my bike. Gonna get a gixxer soon. Lol

Why would anyone give negative comments if you are going to improve yourself? Don't worry about it. Never too late to learn. Just go. Would you change your mind about getting the Gixxer if your friends all don't like Gixxer? Don't be too concerned with what others think.

Thanks guys :)) now im stuck whether to go for the ngee ann poly dip or just go to diploma and get degree. I wanna seek the experience of being in NTU one day. That is why i badly wanna get that Poly dip.

If you want to get a recognised diploma it has to be in one of the 5 polytechnics. If you just want a any degree from those private institutions, you don't even need a diploma as an entry requirement.

Any diploma from these 5 polys will offer you more avenues to further your education here as well as overseas whereas you get one of those walla walla diploma, you will only end up with a walla walla degree.

I'd say go for it. Learning is a never ending process. There are 5 polytechnics to choose from. If Ngee Ann rejects your application you can try the other 4.

102-Year-Old Student Proves You’re Never to Old to Learn

Ma Xiuxian never had the opportunity to attend school, as a child, but she is making up for that in her later years.

The 102-year old Chinese woman, from Jinan, Shandong province, began working at a cotton mill, at the age of 13, and married when she was only 18. She gave birth to nine children, seven of which attended universities. Her children remember Ma Xiuxian and her husband made great sacrifices, in order to support their studies, but never got the chance to fulfill her own dream, of going to school, for the first time.

After being interviewed by a local newspaper, and revealing her dream, on March 31, Ma Xiuxian was invited to the Weishan Road Elementary School, to attend her first class. Equipped with a schoolbag and a large magnifying glass (for reading), Ma entered the class in the applause of her primary school classmates. The 102-year-old student commented she was very proud to be able to go to school, and that she will study hard to bring her contribution to the motherland.

Firstly, Who are the persons who gave you negative comments about studying? If they have no degrees and earning just enough to get by, than why are you listening to them, by taking their advise, your will likely end up being like them. Is that what you want? If yes, then follow their advise.

If not, learning is a never ending process. Never too old to learn.

Do a google search on "87 year old graduate" and you will find many ppl are going back to study even at that age.

It's never easy to study and work part-time. Remember, do not give up even when times are hard. :) The strong survives and prevail.

actually if ur utmost concern is the -ve comments fm ur frens, just ask them wat u shud do & go with the most popular answer...

otherwise, go decide wat course u want to take up for ur degree program then research which are the better Uni offering those courses. as a guide on what is "recognised", u can refer to the links in http://singaporesearchsite.com/2008/11/is-your-degree-recognized-in-singapore/

then find out who in sg offer those programs and ask them on entry requirements/what diplomas are accepted. u can just take the fastest/cheapest diploma among those that are accepted as entry requirement. remember that the diploma is just a stepping stone to gain entry to the degree programme

U dont believe that a degree from a reputable non sg university is worth more than a diploma from a local polytechnic, go and consult employment agencies. Also ask urself which wud be higher value to an employer - a 26 yr old with a diploma fm local poly or 26 yrs old with a degree fm overseas eg, RMIT, UOL etc

& if u want to ultimately study in NTU/NUS, why not get a Masters fm there after you complete ur degree program fm overseas uni?

So the end result will either be :

- 28 yrs old with with a Masters fm NTU/NUS + 5 yrs of relevant working experience (pls start working in the industry of ur career choice now)

- 28 yrs old with a bachelor degree fm NTU/NUS + NIL relevant working expereince in the industry.

Go and ask employment agencies / look in appointment sections of Saturday Straits Times which has a higher value/command higher pay

Alot of people are taking their degrees at 23, besides, it doesn't really matter which U you got it from. Did it matter to the recruiters which U did those FTs get their degrees from? Some of them aren't even real.

You have 30 to 40 plus years of working life to go.

I would study now, even at 23, get a good degree or whatever qualification that interest you to secure a good career with good prospects for the later working years. Better late than never.

Or do you wish to wait till you are 50+ years old to start regretting why didn't you make an effort to study 27 years ago coz your life could have been better off??
