hi guys and gals...I am one of those newbies to this site....got my Dragstar Classic a month ago....think I am the 4th or 5th owner...any way it goes well....have no complaints...been riding since I was 16 years old....been here in Sing for 2 years so far and will be here for many years to come....came from New Zealand to work in our industry here...anyway been interested to find out where the rest of the Star owners meet and chat....have seen that Ownens road on friday evenings seems the local option...could someone tell me what time you meet there...

have ridden yamahas from 125 to 650...and kawasakis, hondas, and susies and even a mates 1200 harley....but still like the dependability and ride and style of the yamahas....was after a 600 dragstar but could only find a 400...so no worries...a daily driver that gives me freedom to go places.....lol..that is what biking is about...freedom...and wind..and rain..and bus and truck exhaust fumes...are what a life we lead.....lol

Welcome to Singapore. Yup, we can't get the 650cc version here due to the driving license classifications.

They meet at Block 25 Owen Road around 8.30 and onwards.

thanks for the welcome.....yeah read all the driver limitations and vehicle regulations you have here....found I did not have to get a local license...yet..cause I am not a 'permanant' resident....yet.....I am officed in Singapore, Jakarta and Batam and spend more time away than here...lol

as for driving license stuff in NZ....we have learners license and restricted license and then full license.....you do not neet a license to ride a scooter smaller than 50cc, and you are restricted to 250cc and under untill you have a full license....and must be aged 15 to start learning to drive, you must have a learners license for 6 months before you go for a test and pass to get a restricted license, which you must hold for a minimum of 18 months if you are under 25...or six months of you are older....these are the new rules and have been in force for the last 20 something years....lol...I got my full license when I was 16 back in 1972...and have been driving cars, trucks and bikes since then... my last road bike in NZ was the 1981 XS 650 Special....the vertical twin that looked like a Triumph....it was a daily rider...getting me across town from home to the office...and a weekend cruiser.....prior to that I had owned DT yamies...125, 175, 250 as daily riders..and weekend dirt racing...and also bigger road bikes off and on...yeah I love riding...even in this crazy singapore traffic....so hope to see you guys on friday nites..just to catch up....ciao for now.... dave...

oic....

I used to stay in Christchurch from '92-'94. So I still have my "paper driving license". I'm glad that they still allow Learner drivers to learn at age 15. That's how I started my car license. By the time I went for my Bursary exams, I got my full license

yes well the 'old paper licenses' went out of circulation in October of 2000 when they were replaced with credit card licenses that have a life time of 10 years.....so you've lived in chch...I have too..spent 2 1/2 years in the south island....about 6 months in chch and the rest all over the place...was last there in 2002...for six months....and first went there in 1975 for two years.....thanks again for the welcome...and quick responses...see ya later...must get some work done....ciao for now...dave in singapore

dragstar. the word "drag" does it means it is a torky, low end powerful, fast bike?

for eg, like the magna 750 is consider a musle bike becos of it low end power and fast bike.

(totally no idea, that why i ask)

Looking at Yamaha Hong Leong new website, I believe there is no 650cc version for our local market.

Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul.

Of course no! This is just a name given to this model. If you are looking at the 400cc version, the specification shown that the torque is high in its class but due to its weight and shaft driven, the pick up is going to be slow. If you are looking for a fast bike, you should be looking into either a sportbike or roadbike.

Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul.
