i gotta give amsoil a try then. i'm already using it in my car and i'm quite happy with it. hopefully the motorcycle version will be as good also.

anyway. what's the typical labour charge from bike shops if you ask them to change for you? assuming i buy the oil filter from them.

I changed mine myself. Ain't sure about the bike shop charges. But if it quite straight forward, I guess anything from $10 to $20 should be a okay price.

why don't you try chex 10w50? there are guesses that they are from the same OEM. unless yr bike can't take 50wt.

wat bike are you riding? you have a nice mech to suggest 5k oil change interval. most will just tell it to change as often as possible to earn your money. if using a good synthetic, i think 5k should be fine depend on the bike you are riding of course.

there might be some evaporation but should be nothing excess. if there is, most likely due to engine condition.

Riding cbr150.

5k interval would last me at least 8mths and im afraid the oil would be long gone by then

nah. don't worry about it. unless you are constantly high revving your bike and riding it very hard for prolong period of time, the oil will last till then.

i must say i'm not a fan of ows product. for that price for ows800, i'll have amsoil/ maxima any day

When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.

got box got tour.

Mx trading reccomends amsoil too.

Yes, you can follow your manual suggestion. Check on the dipstick every 1-2k and top up when necessary.

OIl do not evaporate. It gets burnt. Its normal. But if its too much, there might be a leak somewhere.

oil does evaporate under high temperature. ASTM D-5800 is a test use to determine the volatility of an oil. infact, under normal condition, the temperature will not be high enough to burn EO inside the crank case.

Does 9k rev count as high?

been using it for 1mth now and only clock 0.5k..dipstick is at normal level

Any other eo to recommend?

hi there Isopropyl..

i have been on my 2nd change of the Delvac MX and my Phantom runs great! really smooth and all.. but d issue is that, i guess since my engine gets pretty hot (air-cooled), after long runs, i can feel the engine starting to get a little rough and ard 1k km, the EO feels like its broken down.. i guess its due to its 40 wt getting too thin at high temps?

so the thing is, i saw the Rimula R3X at shell.. i read at a m'sia forum that its okay to use.. but they use the 15w40 one.. the one i saw in SG is the 20w50.. is it ok to use?

but according to the information sheet here, it says its not allison c-4 compatible.. why is it the difference in viscosity makes it unsuitable? is the composition different?

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

Hi bro. Yes I have personally tried and tested the OWS 800 Syntholite 10W40 Fully Synthetic engine oil.

Your question is it good is in what factor? Mileage or Performance?

Usually how long then change oil? For me I usually change the engine oil when it turns rough. And will the oil evaporate fast? Well it does not evaporate but it turns thinner and thinner in Viscosity once the oil is shea red.

History n Present ride

Nov '00 till Dec '00 - Aprilia RS 125cc 1 Mth

Dec '00 till Oct '05- Yamaha RXZ Delux 135cc 4 Years 11Mths

Feb '04 till Dec '09 - Honda Wave-S 125cc 5 Years 10Mths

Dec '09 till Sept '12 - Yamaha FZ150i 2 Years 9Mths

Im more concern in performance den mileage.but an average of both would be gd

At only 0.2k i can already feel the roughness and very hard to change gear esp neutral as compared to the $10 eo used previously.

phantom is air-cooled? i guess a 50wt is great for phantom from reviews. might be due to the high tempature. personally, i guess most "feel" from engine should be due to viscosity. technically i not sure wat else causes those "feeling". give 50wt a try. it perfectly fine for wet clutch. don't have to worry about it. i doubt Delvac MX will shear in just 1000km. no harm trying R3X 50wt at all to seek the perfect oil for your bike.

R3X 50wt is not allison C-4 approved but does not mean it is not compatible. i am quite sure it is safe. it does not contain enough friction modifier to cause clutches to slip. infact most friction modifers used in modern engine oil highly likely will not cause wet clutches to slip.

About changing oil on your 4stroke bikes rite..I recommend if u change them after every 1500km. Dont wait till it degrades. Some ppl claims that mileage is too short and wasting of money but think abt the pressure build up as these oils are trap inside the engine and the pistons, mechanism movements. How much can they absorb the punishment before the oil degrades..the longer we wait, the lesser the grades of protection to our parts and u wont survive longer than those who change frequently. its ok if u cant afford the OWS full synthetic but at least change the oil at 1500km. it helps my bro

most bike are not so hard on oil that require such short change interval. we don't have easy access to UOA but reading others report suggest EO can last much longer. those claims 1500km is too short is likely to be correct then wrong at least for most rider.

changing oil at 1500km is super kaisu...typically of sillyporean.

first, most oil manufacturer(s) recommend change oil at every 5,000 km or 3,000 miles.

second, bike manufacturer(s) recommend change oil at 4,000 km (i.e. accordance to my owner manual).

third, too frequent oil change is polluting the earth. wat happen to save the earth??

fourth, lean tuned bikes run very hot, for example those class 2b run >35km/l. engine runs so hot tat engine oil will evaporate, burn n cooked thus deteriorate oil properties, fail to performance n form sludge (black death).

REVBIKERS, pls note point fourth, it maybe ur problem.

moral: penny save in fuel, dollars loss in oil change, engine repair/overhaul.

i agree. for small bike, 3000-5000km should be a safe OCI with quality oil. as for bigger bike, it can go even longer. just check the oil level regularly.

the only person who push for short change interval is from motortiam. it clear why are they doing it.

Posted

intervals are personal, they can only be recommended on a general basis.

a visco and density measurement prior to oil changes will show separation, adulteration with water & chemicals, lost of lubricity, carbon residue and asphaltene % changes.

that is the moment when a change should be taken into consideration.

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

personal feeling about OCI is not scientific but rather based on experience which is hardly accurate. the common ways are what we feel is a safe interval, follow manual recommendation and using UOA. as we don't have easy access to UOA, we can only depend on the earlier 2 methods.

where can we do this "visco and density measurement"? sound interesting. not sure how a test of viscosity and density is going to review so much about the oil.

Hi guys.. can i ask... if a bike has been left there for 1~3 weeks.. upon riding it back.. do you find that it has become very rough?

& after changing EO and spark plug.. It seems to become alot better.. Even thru the eo has been run for around 500km?

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Please proceed to this website/web link if you guys have any technical issues on Kawasaki Kips/KR150, I'll update the 1st POST as and when there's a new question. Newbies questions on the top as well. :)

the longest i park my bike so far is 1week. expect kick-starting need some extra "kicks", i don't feel much different. i also just changed my engine oil when i left it untouch.

the only problem i can think of is condensation. by just riding it for some distance should get rid of the water in the oil. i doubt there will be any problem with the spark plug.

it might be due to fouling of the fuel in your carb.

this illustrate how good royal purple engine oil is.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC2snrIAU2w

it only show the oil is good in load bearing aplication. i have read before this is due to the extreme pressure additives. such additives is normally found in greases. as for it role in engine oil enviroment it is somehow limited and might not be idea.

in modern day, one will be hard-pressed to find a bad engine oil. for most commuters, as long as servicing is done regularly, the chance of problem due to engine oil failure is very low.
