first time heard of anyone migrating to turkey (am sua-ku) but there's no plc like home esp when your family are all here. we r so used to the food and accessiblity to everything but turkey's a great plc. maybe u dun even need to go thru so much trouble to be able to ride a class 2 bike.

i've lived in europe for 3 yrs, i like it there but family and food brings me home. if my entire family's moving there, guess i won't mind.

the grass always looks greener on the other side but each country has it's own set of problems.

At different stages and times of your life.

Considering to move is a decision that only feels closer to you when you encounter the times when you need to consider the pros and cons of moving out of Singapore.

Enough said, every country has its pros and cons. WIth that, one makes a choice. WIth a decision on that choice comes the adeptness to adapt.

If you feel the pros outweighs the cons, go for it. Carpe Diem.

Actually, it's what you really want. If you feel Singapore can't offer what you want, then by all means, seek greener pastures elsewhere, if and when the opportunity rises.

I'd take the best of both worlds (I mean, hey? The topic is "to live in SG or abroad", nothing of the PR sort...)

Here's my takes on both sides of the coin:

Abroad, more facilities, resources in abundance (cheap cheap), jobs and opportunities aplenty, multifaceted ways of living in that country, sometimes corrupt, always worry whether people are carrying a gun next to you, weary of what's gonna happen next, individualistic "you're on your own to sort your own stuff" life, etc...

Singapore, excellent facilities at a cost, jobs and opportunities follow a ladder (got "O's", "A's", "Diplomas" or "Degrees" anyone?), a somewhat "set" way of living in this country (SG being an authoritarian country), very safe and monitored, not even a gun in sight (except in NS), walk out at midnight without worrying what could happen to you, cooperative as in the government would lend out a helping hand to acheive your future endeavours etc...

I've exhausted my list already :faint:

Singapore maybe safe and all but everything here costs money. Like many others say, it is cheaper to die than to fall sick as the medical fees is too costly, petrol prises is too high, taxes is too much, cars too expensive, houses too costly and cigerattes too expensive. I too think of the many pro and cons, therefore it is not EZ to choose.

Go elsewhere to experience life?

Looking at me yesterday. I dont even dare to ride to JB myself to pump petrol.

I had to jump into a group of riders that is going in to GP for petrol and makan.

But if you tell me Singapore, there is no problem as to where I can go. Safely and no matter what time I go. I can always find tasty food anywhere.

However, there comes a time in life, (Me Mid Life Crisis) when I wanted to see or live life elsewhere outside of Singapore where I am not getting anywhere in this Authoritative cum 'big small eye' culture which we call Singapore Paper Chase.

Live abroad definitely.

Get to see the world, live and experience diff cultures.

I really bet each of us will want to see whats outside the world before you die.

Yah?

there was one song i've heard long time ago....its a rap of some sort.

part of the lyrics goes like this:

....live in california, but leave before you become too soft....

...live in new york, but leave before you become too hard....

....love your parents....one day you may find them gone.....or something.... :cheeky:

it carries some cautionary nagging which we often heard but brush it away.

Try living overseas for a few years. The experience will be very enriching, and you will discover what you truly desire, especially if you travel between the two countries.

For me, there are more pros than cons for me to stay overseas, but my family and friends in Singapore are priceless, so I know I will return. But as someone has said before, I am a "citizen of Earth" and I think I can be happy anywhere in the world.

I'll go where the wind blows me, i guess i'm another one of the children of the Earth.

I'm singaporean but i don't really belong here. I think the lack of family ties except for my parents (who have always encouraged my independance) plays a part, along with the fact that i don't really blend in with the locals (in terms of appearance and mentality).

I can go pretty much anywhere in the english-speaking world and be mistaken for a local (it's happened in australia, canada and the states). I've spent long periods of time overseas, and know how life works on the other side.

I probably will end up somewhere else, if only for the fact that i want land of my own, a place to call home. I don't want to live in some letterbox in the sky forever. I don't need acres or mansions, just a nice little house with space for the dogs to run in the yard and parking for my bikes. The fact that the flat that i live in now could easily buy a nice-sized house elsewhere on the planet pretty much says it all.

Those who risk nothing, do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.

Living in SG...

1. Why the hell a concrete house cost that much?

2. Unusual payments to govt:

CPF

Income tax( this 1 ok la every country has it)

Excise tax which includes: ciggs tax(excessive), petrol tax(excessive), liquor tax(equally excessive as well), burger tax, blah blah everything also must tax abit la.

Licences: Radio licence, TV licence and even Dog licence!?

3. You cannot rear the following animals in your HDB(WTF YOU PAID SO MUCH YET THE HOUSE IS SO SMALL):

Snakes( prohibited, dangerous, blah blah etc..)

monkeys(same as above)

cows(no space)

sheeps(no space)

Big dogs(even if your HDB consist of 3 joined up 5-room flats, a GSD is still illegal)

cats( No freaking idea why not allowed, but many people keeps that and govt doesnt cares. )

4. You cannot even drive your vehicle properly due to the following:

Jokers with cameras on bridges *which leads to $

Fines $

Road tax $

inspection $

COE $

ERP $

Parking $

Speeding $

Insurance $

Inserting cash card at road shoulder = *fines $

Sum to above up to see how much u spent so far.

*There could be other hidden costs unstated

The fault with SG, PAP = Pay And Pay

so.... i dont like it myself and time = $

so i dont mind being a 2nd class citizen.
