But for those tyre without tread on the shoulder, how do we know the shoulder area has worn out?

Good question.

For thsoe tyres (DOT Race tyres like Michelin Power Race, Power One, Pirelli Supercorsa Pro, Diablo Corsa, Metzeler Racetec...) you would still look at the wear indicators (the humps in the tread markings) closest to the sides of the tyre.

Reason is that part of the tyre is what sees the most wear in track use. Thats is the part of the tyre that we power out of corners on. The edges of the tyre (which you use when you are max lean) will never wear out faster than the part of teh tyre we use for driving out of corners.

Reason being that at full lean, we use very little throttle.

But, there are also wear indicators (a small triangle on the sidewall of the tyre) that will tell you if rubber close to the edge is worn out. Look closely.

For slicks, you will see small holes on the tyre that will give you an indication of how much rubber is left.

Cheers,

Hi everyone here,

I am a 2T250 rider(i know under 400 track rider is getting lesser and lesser here...)

And i upgrade my type from BT090 to Alpha-10 and it grip well for me(F/R 28/28 cool type pressure)

After used around 3 sets of Alpha-10, There's some new options seems come out at similar price range.

So now i am considering from BT003/003rs to A-10/A-11.

My bike is only for track use and very unlikely riding on the road expect from SG to PG.

So my main concerning is the on track proformance under similar price range and similar life time

Because 003s seems always been compared with those big bike tyres and very hard to find any comparasion with those mid-range bike tyres. So i really get a bit confusing here.

Thanks a lot for any input.

Cheers,

anyone has any ideas how long a pair of michelin power one would last?

2 track day sessions at PG?

hi there, well frm what i know for a FACT, michelin power one would & can last for 2 or even 3 trackday session in PG, it all depends on how hard u ride! if ur doing 1.40s&1.45s, 3 TRACKDAYS NO PROBLEMS...... An V compound for the front running at 30psi & a B compound rear at 22psi are the best tire pressure to use! :thumb:

Bro,

The last time we spoke i understand that u rode the bike daily and also for track.. In this case, i believe it is the tyre heat cycle that caused it to lose grip.. And few sundays back i can see u r getting more comfortable on track n also getting faster too.. WHich means you will now need tyre that have not reached its maximum heat cycle everytime u ride on track..

Cheers

Mr Kosmik,

I have not run Bridgestones in a very, very long time.

Had bloody good fun on the BT56Ss, BT010s, BT090s, BT012s way back then and must say they were good in their time.

The last bridgestone I used on my own bike was 5 years ago, although I may have tested bikes with bridgestones recently.

However, I have not sampled the recent "BT00X" series but have heard wonders about the quick warm up of the street compound and grip of the race compounds from others.

They seem to do well in most tyre comparos, so I would give it a go if I had the opportunity.

The only wierd thing about them is that the front tyre has a profile quite different to other brands, that makes it sit wider on the front rim, as if the sidewall was very tall.

What you will notice is that you'll be able to wear the tyre out to the edges of the front much more easily than other brands.

Trivia facts:

The brand name is actually the surname of the founder of the company translated into English

Bridgestone used to make bikes and were bloody good at it!

Hey guys..just check..the BT003rs in sg..is more street use then track lah. Sg supplier do not bring in the race tyres type 3 or 4..guess..i'll go for pirelli..maybe dragon supercorsa SC2 for trackdays and the diablo supercorsa Pro SC2(if got spare cash) if participating in SMSA race...hahahaha....if not just use the dragon..heard compound same but diff year technology...
