The only problem with Class 2a/2 is only when people buy it when they got no money.

Seriously.

I guess we have seen enough of losers who default on payments, whine about fuel consumption, grumble about parts prices, complain about insurance and tax...etc.

If you can afford it, buy your dream and enjoy living it.

If you can't afford, please live within our means and buy what you can afford.

It's as simple as that.

Pros for upgrading from 2B - i think most 2b bikes are quite underpowered except for maybe the 2 strokers but the 2 strokers are quite smokey n a bit noisy n lesser n lesser of these models are being brought in 1st hand into Sg cos of LTA

but the reason to upgrade to a class 2A at the least, its because i personally think it is much safer choice to get a more powerful bike. Riding a bike and driving a car is very different, i've been riding for over 18 years n i do not ride slow n wait behind a big bus or truck, and think that riding slow will save my life n being too patient when u are being sandwich by a bus, truck and a 18 wheeler will be safe.

if i have the chance to take over n get myself away from all these big monster vehicles ASAP safely, i will do it at a twist of a throttle

n i am always checking my mirrors to look out for crazy tail-gaiting vehicle behind me once I'm on the fast lane or some fast n furious driver is speeding at break neck speed n has no time to slow down cos he has not noticed a motorcycle on that lane.

Well with a more powerful 400cc motorcycle, i can most probably get away faster in the situations as described above than an underpowered 4 stroke 2b bike. N on the roads, the less time u spend in such situations the safer u are.

So that's the pro.

THe con - with power comes responsibility and it is your choice to use the power responsibly. N it can be difficult to make the right choices with a powerful bike sometimes eg; riding at speeds that is beyond your control etc etc

Hope my reply is useful. Cheers

Thanks for the replies guys. They've been rather helpful :)

Any recommendations for 2A bikes preferably with good FC? Or..can just list down any anyway since there aren't that many to choose among right? :\ Was actually considering the ktm 390 but the price seems a little steep

the price of the duke 390 is expensive?

i dun mean this post to be insulting, but the Duke 390 at 11.9k machine price and the Ninja 300 at 12.8k machine price are both cheaper than a Super 4, which is the definitive performance-per-dollar 2A bike. admittedly they both put out less power than a super4 for the lesser money, but how much cheaper a 2A bike do you want to go?

i suggest a look at the CBR250, that should be cheaper still with fantastic FC. but with power no higher than a 2B 2-stroke...

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

By steep I mean because it's a relatively new bike and 2nd hand options aren't readily available.

shd have clarified that you're only budgeting 2nd hand bikes.

which, if you look at new models in 2a class in the past 5 years, limits your choices to super4, gsr400, drz400..... and i cant think of anything else.

although you might want to start looking at 2nd hand cbr250 and ninja250; 2nd hand of those shd be entering the market right about now. if you're riding a 4-stroke 150, these 250s shd feel like a good step up.

Correction, a Revo, spec 3 still cheaper hahahah.

For SG roads, as long as the bike still has acceleration past 140, its good enough. I believe the ninja can do that no problem but the duke is another issue if its geared like a motard.

isn the revo priced at 13.8k machine?

which compares to machine prices of 11.9k for duke390, 12.8k for ninja300 and 9k for cbr250.

13.8k meh? That's about right, revo still more ex ma, CBR250 and Ninja250 are both good starter bikes to learn riding and track imo, S4s can't lean low without a racing footrest. S4s has better resale for now tho.

The best thing about the Duke 390 is that the ABS comes as standard.

For some, paying $500-$800 'extra" for ABS seems illogical, given their godly riding skills.

Honda has launched the CB400R, CB400F & Cb400X.

So might be worth to wait awhile for now.

Probably the resale values of these bikes could be more stable than the Duke?

Finally, 2A riders got something to choose other than Super 4.

Cons:

-License always at risk.

-Everyone is hogging you (including malaysian cubs squeezing on expressway)

-If crash heart more pain.

Pros:

-Current batch of TPs are new riders.

-Lose in corners can still show off on straight roads. Haha

Now i'm torn between CBR600 or another modded NSR150. Haha.

In the dry, not so bad, in the wet, unless you're experienced to the point its 2nd nature with engine braking and tapping front as well as rear, get the ABS.

Still riding...fz150i

i would recommend you getting a super4

1. there is a 'service package' for super4 in almost every motorcycle servicing shop.

2. almost everything for super4 is readily available. (aftermarket, modifications, 2nd hand items etc...)

3. personally i'm riding spec3 and my fuel consumption is around 26-28km/l (i think this is considered very good mileage for a 400cc bike?)

just my own views and preference

pros to move up to 2A from 2B:

more power

more fun

why not? just do it :)

pros for moving up to 2:

Cl 2 bikes are big, and well more shiok and more variety.

imaging that you are on a HD or GS or any other huge Cl 2 bike on a traffic stop while the rest are kup kias, SPs and plain vanilla S4s. Who do you think chicks will look at? ;)

Cons for 2A

maint cost similar to Cl 2 bikes

(my opinion) its the sandwich class, you are not quite yet at the stage where you can call yourself a proper biker cos your riding is still limited to a certain section of motorbikes, unlike Cl2 where you can ride any bikes

Not many picking in this class as opposed to, say in jepun

PS: I m not knocking S4, kup kia or SPs, these are all fantastic bikes.

Last time no bike license, i see my friends ride their bikes can easily get chicks. So i get class 2B

After pass class 2B, buy Bajaj pulsar 180. No chicks come to me. Then my friend say must buy 400cc bike then the chicks will come.

So after pass class 2A, i buy super 4 weetec. Still no chicks come to me. Then my friend advise me must buy sporkbike, sure got chicks.

After pass class 2, i buy R6. But the chicks still don't come to me.

Now i sell all the bikes, and take public. Chicks automatically squeeze in front of me, behind me, and beside me in the train.

No pros for buying class 2A and Class 2. Only Cons leh.
