I'm toying with the idea of getting a naked Class 2 bike. Thinking of buying a Monster S2 or waiting till April 08 to buy the new Monster 696. I'll like to know if there's any S2 or S4 riders here? Any feedback on ur bikes? 2nd thing that i'll like to know is the cost of maintenance. I used to ride a Super 4 Vtec and a ST11. How's maintenance of the Ducatis compared to my previous 2 bikes in tems of cost? If too high, i think i'll prolly settle for GSR600. Thanks.

I'm no Ducati rider but I can tell you maintenance is higher.

Please do not get me wrong but as a guide if you have to think about maintenance cost as a serious criteria for your decision, then you are probably not ready for it.

cheers

Hehe, this bike that i'm getting is just to curb my itch to ride again as my main form of commute is a car. The thing is i dun want to pay too high a premium for my hobby cos if so, a fazer 6 or gsr600 shld suffice. So comparing ducati, yamaha and suzuki, how much more $ are we toking about? :cheeky: Thanks for ur advice anyway.

If this bike is not your main form of transport, then you need not worry about the maintenance because you're not going to clock much mileage on it anyway. Since you've chosen an Air cooled machine, there are even lesser parts to maintain. Just change the engine oil and filters and its good to go. First valve clearance inspection for new generation Ducatis comes at 15,000km if I'm not wrong.

But since you're getting a Ducati, you must be prepared to pay more, and loose more when you sell the machine. You must also be mentally prepared (and restrained) when you start flipping the parts n accessories catalogue.

I don't really understand. But idiots on tracks should be black flagged out at the 1st instance. Even cars who do silly drifts in Sepang will get flagged out immediately as it will cause danger to other cars taking the lines. But this one takes the cake...Endo at the finishing line....sigh... one life is lost...and I hope lesson learnt here. RIP to a fellow Ducatian.

I agree.Motorsports should be taken seriously,as serious as on the roads. One minute of gung-ho can cause a life time of grief.

Lets pray for him and his family. Sad indeed.

Anyway, I was wondering also, how the hell some riders can ride with bloody no mirrors or even those terribly contorted mirrors only on one side? If I am without mirrors, I rather be a roadkill victim.

I dont understand either.my only assumption is that this idiots are jus simulating track set-up while keeping with the legal issues of having rear view mirror.

They however fail to realise that any vehicles behind them could not be bothered and might swipe them from behind if they are not careful.

i would always keep a look out for these idiots, not for their safety but for mine.i may sound selfish but if they don bother to pack their brains when riding...why should i bother.

if i in a good mood...a slight ducati rumble would alert them.

Actually, riding a 999 with riding jacket, I can see absolutely nothing in my mirrors inless I raise my arm and look under my armpit. Without riding jacket I can still tuck my arms in and see something...

I agree with nE0, once the raincoat jacket comes on, half the mirror or more gets obscured with my 'muscular' (sic) shoulders LOL.

A buddy riding a Fazer 600 uses those little round stick-on wide angle mirrors which seem to work pretty well though. the only problem with them is that they seem to distort distances and well, the look a little ah pek.

Nonetheless, scanning the mirrors and turning back to check traffic every once in a while is part of my riding habits so I could never imagine getting rid of them. They could really save your life one day. 2B riders are the biggest culprits of mirror-removers, are they really so willing to risk their lives just for a little better looks on their bike? Back when i used to ride 2B bikes, nearly all those jokers riding the NSR SPs and Mitos had their mirrors removed. Doesn't seem so rampant now, thankfully

On another note, I saw a really nicely done 2 seater monster made to look like a 1 seater (with the cowl on). Nicest attempt I have seen yet, wonder which shop did the seat. The material used to make the back seat look like that is kind of like the plastic material they use to make those rubber dingys, very smooth, shiny, and definitely weatherproof :thumb:

I also finally managed to get my pipes fitted with the race baffles which i bought from the ebay link i mentioned in the last page. The instructions made things sound much easier than what actually needed to be done (http://www.aandrmotorsport.com/Ducatibaffleinstructions.html) so its a damn good thing Mike was around to help out with the troublesome bits, as usual big props go out to him. Sound improved tremendously but still remains very civilised (think stock sound only with added bass). Pipes are now about 1kg less in weight each and I don't notice any power differences (maybe rejetting is needed). All in all i wouldnt recommend this mod unless you were dead set on saving money but it makes sense on this bike to preserve the stock look motocafe started whilst getting better sound out of it :thumb:

Pic of the old rubbish silencers from the stockie before they were chopped off and replaced with the race baffles:
