[Group] SBF DUCATI Monster

I also finally managed to get my pipes fitted with the race baffles which i bought from the ebay link i mentioned in the last page. The instructions made things sound much easier than what actually needed to be done (http://www.aandrmotorsport.com/Ducatibaffleinstructions.html) so its a damn good thing Mike was around to help out with the troublesome bits, as usual big props go out to him. Sound improved tremendously but still remains very civilised (think stock sound only with added bass). Pipes are now about 1kg less in weight each and I don't notice any power differences (maybe rejetting is needed). All in all i wouldnt recommend this mod unless you were dead set on saving money but it makes sense on this bike to preserve the stock look motocafe started whilst getting better sound out of it :thumb:

Hiya blackreplica,

Good to see that you finished the mod which I never got around to doing. Must sound lovely now, I am sure.

Btw, that's a Corbin seat on your bike. It was rewrapped locally as the original skin was torned.

Actually, riding a 999 with riding jacket, I can see absolutely nothing in my mirrors inless I raise my arm and look under my armpit. Without riding jacket I can still tuck my arms in and see something...

rasing armpits is a norm for me also.i guess its a ducati thing, which i like.it do somehow force u to look back, which is an addded safety feature

hehe i am pretty happy with the result even though it was a lot of work. The sound is a lot less hooligan-ish than I thought it would be which makes me think you would like it quite a lot, based on the way you describe what kind of sound is ideal to you. Best way to describe it is it basically sounds the way ducati pipes should sound straight from the factory, same stock feel, only more bassy and yet unintrusive and non-disturbing to pedestrians (though they will still hear it, which is a must). Best of all, its quiet at idle, gets nice and loudish at cruise-slow-and-pose speeds but for some reason the volume level drops again at highway cruising speeds (maybe the wind blast masks the sound), thats almost an ideal result and more than I could have ever wanted. The silencer solution you proposed to me on the phone is the next step when i have the time:P

P.S Fuel cutoff switch working great still. Starts first time every time in the mornings without touching the throttles. I need to use the choke about 10-20 secs initially though until it warms up then it holds idle beautifully. another 1-2 mins of idling and off I go :)

P.P.S I noticed the corbin logo underneath the seat only about 1.5 weeks after i got the bike. there's just no end to all the little things you changed on it are there? Awesome!!! Funny thing was my friend was insisting since day 1 that they were corbin seats and i kept telling him no they weren't cos you never mentioned them lol. You should have seen his reaction when i told him they were in fact corbins he was literally jumping up and down giving me 'i told you so'

Blackreplica,

Really glad to hear that you are enjoying the bike - makes my efforts really worthwhile. Another thing which you may notice as well is that the fairing does not flap around at speed like the original OEMs. This is due to the little 'trelis' frame I made.

I have tried to iron out most of the 'bugs' that plagued the monster series. Sometimes I forget the many changes I made, ie. fuel cutoff. Please call me if you have any problems.

P.S. The monster is like a woman sometimes - they do not like to be neglected and really have to be pampered.

On another note, I saw a really nicely done 2 seater monster made to look like a 1 seater (with the cowl on). Nicest attempt I have seen yet, wonder which shop did the seat. The material used to make the back seat look like that is kind of like the plastic material they use to make those rubber dingys, very smooth, shiny, and definitely weatherproof :thumb:

Pic of the old rubbish silencers from the stockie before they were chopped off and replaced with the race baffles:
