Hi all,

Is it advisable for a rider who has zero experience in riding to get a Ducati Monster 400 as his virgin ride? Or is it too much to handle..

i strong advise against it. the monster 400 is not an easy bike to handle. and its not that forgiving. and u need deep pockets.

I don't think there's any problem getting a monster 4 as the first bike. The only reason why some might not encourage it is that the monster market consists of only second hand (sometimes third, fourth etc..) monsters. As with all other second hand bikes, even new bikes, they do come with their fair share of problems. Having an experience in that aspect will equip you to be able to handle the problems when they come your way. That's why as what Dodobird said, its not that forgiving and you need a deep pocket, but only if you pick up one that is not exactly in a good condition.

If you really like the looks, think you are able to handle the expenses that might be coming your way, by all means get it as your first bike! You will definitely enjoy it and learn more about it along the way. Remember, treat your bike well and it will treat you well. Meet up with the guys and you will see many well maintained monsters that do not give their owners any major problems or headaches, then you will find that owning one really isn't that expensive. Just don't learn from dodobird and buy too many aftermarket parts.

Cheers

Yo guys!

Can this kit be used on my 1998 Monster 400? http://www.ferracci.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=191

Looking around for an "upgrade".....heh.

Your cylinders will need to be bored out or swapped with 600 cylinders, and the crank will have to be changed to cope with the increased power. Note this is highly illegal. Better to upgrade to a bigger bike.

the difference between the 400 and 600 is not just a question of bore only. even if u change out the block and pistons, u still need to change out the crankshafts and conrods and gear ratios(NOT SPROCKETS). it is 2 different engines. and parts are not cross compatible with different yrs of manufacture.

extensive research has been done on this topic around the world. u will be able to find the actual differences in the archives of some websites.

simply put, it is not an easy or cheap job to do the conversion and its highly illegal. we do not encourage such behavior.

check if it is in miles... if someone changed the meter before, then there is a possibility that it may not be in km.

If in km, then it is very bad FC. go check the bike at mech

guys, is there anyway to mod the front brakes to dual brake disk? how much will it cost?

If your front right side, lower part of the fork does not have a bracket for another pair of calipers, it will be more expensive. Either you buy a right fork or the lower bracket. Both not easy to find cheaply.

If not, just buy caliper, brake pads, brake disc, new brake hose, maybe brake pump if you want better power. Else, single disc is good enough for track even. The bike is already very light and you are not at 1098 speeds.

Also, why do you want the front wheel to be heavier?
