the place we are visiting is hatyai town. it is less then 20km away from the border. the last fuel station in NSH is about a few km before the border (a U-turn will require to be make).

Hatyai town is about 60KM from the border, so to and fro is 120km.

Generally, Hetyai town is about the size of Ang Mo Kio,the roads structure is similar too, all the roads n junctions are right angles to each other, Hatyai town is like a big square.

The food at Lee Gardens(town centre) is at tourist prices , i don't go there anymore. Everywhere is only a couple of mins away to ride to. Security is not a concern, u can safely park your bike ANYWHERE and not worry that it'll get tampered with.

Go to Tesco Lotus, Big C and Carrefour. These are the big shopping centres that locals go to hang out,buy groceries. The bike accessories section there have alot of interesting things to buy.

Food wise,it's tough to pin point exactly where to go coz i have local friends there that bring me around. but food is hardly a concern coz there r food stalls everywhere, and there is a 7-11 within 500 metres there.

i stayed at hatyai merlin hotel, walk in 400bht,it's a 5 min walk away from Lee Garden.Used to stay at Golden Crown till they raised their prices to 700+bht.Merlin is like Golden Crown but older, but alot of food stalls n 7-11 just outside. U should get a Dtac SIM card from any hp shop in Thailand for abt 199bht. Topup cards are readily available at any 7-11 in the whole of thailand. it's cheaper to call back SGP,but u must dial 00965 1st, 5bht/call and 5bht/min. local call is 1bht/call and 1bht/min.

REMEMBER: dial 00965 for call home.sms is just +65,10bht/sms. call cheaper.

at hatyai,u can go to the Guanyin temple in the hill, just next to the army camp, very near to Carrefour. at the foot of the hill there is a park like our botanical gardens,u can buy fish feed and feed the fishes there. or u can ride 26km to Songkla n feed the monkeys. it's just a suggestion, not for everybody.

if u have time,go to Sukhothai Historical Park. There are 2 Sukhothais, 12km apart. I stayed at New Sukhothai town n rode over to Old Sukhothai to visit the historical park. 100bht/entry and 20bht for bike. u can ride your bike in. sunset time is the best, thai time 5pm.

i can PM u my thai friend's hp if u want it,PM me to confirm. He opens a Bak Kut Teh cum Timsum shop in Hatyai, a go-to-guy for me when i need to book hotel rooms and basically get around town in the early beginning. Now i just make my way to his shop for a hearty breakfast every morning i'm in Hatyai. I cant comment on his food coz we all have different taste, but i eat it every time i'm there.

when at Maehongson,u can stay at Friend's Guesthouse, 150bht/nite for communal bathroom and 250bht/nite for attached bathroom. it is a small family run guesthouse and u can rent a bike at 200bht/day from PA,which is just next to the guesthouse. I always stay there, very nice people u'll meet staying there. It is also 3 min walk to the MHS nite bazaar. dont get MHS tees at the bazaar, ride around and u can get them at half the price. It's a very, very small town, dont need map.

if u do need to buy the MHS sticker and collect the cert,it's at the road directly across the nite bazaar. open 8.30am-5pm. i am still wondering why they do that for(the cert/stickers).

also at the place u rent the bike, they'll give u a self drawn map to visit the interesting places around. go to Mae Aw(MUST GO),it's a 45km ride away, along the way will pass by Fish Cave and other interesting places.go in the morning ,can be back by 3 in the afternoon.

disclaimer: for all the info that i've shared,if u benefit from it,dun thank me. if it stinks, dun curse me.

Hi James, I'm interested in the trip. Let me know when you confirm the date. I have never rode from midnight but have rode 12 hr trips before.

In the meantime, anyone want to go for a warm up trip? I'm thinking of Genting, Sat set off @0000 and return on Sun. Especially good for newbies to touring. Will travel slow.

Hi pals. Never have i expected with so many respond. Thanks for the info.

As i usually enter the site once in a few days time, do add my msn to your computer. my work place uses msn to communicate, which mean it is turn on during the working hour. thanks.

I will ask for a vote. pls vote for the trip date as below (voting only require for those that confirm going).

1. 16-19 June (sat, sun, mon, tue)

2. 23-26 June (sat, sun, mon, tue)

please note that the departure date is fri late evening.

Please note that the "design plan" is sat reaches hatyai. we will have the whole sun to spend in hatyai. We will leave hatyai and spend the mon nite in malaysia (most likely ipoh, kl or seranbam). We will return to sg in tue afternoon.

The main reason for planning a stop over at malaysia is becos:-

1. i worry of the conceration of the biker as we mostlikely been playing for 2 day and 2 nite.

2. without a stop over, the time to leave hatyai is 8-9am.

3. with a stop over, the time to leave hatyai is 11am.

4. the main reason why we didnt have a stop over at malaysia during the "going" trip is becos all the biker is fresh. This is the first trip for most of us, the excitment will allow the biker to "stay awake".

additional info.

1. We are all the organiser of this trip. We are to take care of each other on the road.

2. as lee garden is in the heart of hatyai and is the middle of all the tourist area. It is adviceable to stay near that area becos all the tourist stuff are locate at that area within walking distance.

3. I am not saying we should stay at lee garden (1050-1250baht per nite), just somewhere near there. Lee garden is the tallest building (easy to spot and easy to locate). this is just a suggestion.
