Hi Parallel, I can hear the rattling sound only when my engine is at the idle rpm and after running for some distance i.e it cannot be heard during the cool engine period =) The rattling sound is quite similar to a chain running loosely randomly inside the engine and the mechanic say it could be due to the cam tensioner which I find the same cause on the internet too.

Holy Boy,

Thanks for your input bro.. Next time join us for short trip.

Hi, can I check if it is recommended to get a windscreen replacement from auto machinery or the Puig Touring Windscreen from Motovation? Also, I would like to check if any of the bro here has done a respray for their beloved ride before? =) I am thinking of changing the colour of my ride.

more than 2 weeks? Hong Leong really makes life difficult for the bike shops don't they?

btw guy, i haven't toured to thailand for 3 years... last time use log card. now the bike shop says i will just need a piece of paper that LTA will mail to me and my insurance... is that correct?

and i just need photocopies of those documents to show at the border right?

Hi everybody!

Greetings! I would like to check if it is normal for the engine to have a kind of metal rattling sound at random after travelling for quite some distance (lets say about 20km)? Also, how do I check if mine is Gen 1 or Gen 2 model? My bike is manufactured in 2004 (according to the log card) so I presume that it is a '04 model.

yes, rattling sound is not good. fjr infamous for having this problem. do a read-up online and it's all over the net.

and also, i would believe that:

Gen 1: 01-03 (normal stick signal lights, no glove box)

Gen 2: 04-05 (flushed signal lights, glove box)

Gen 3: 06-present (flushed signal lights, glove box, sturdy mirrors, adjustable fairing, blablabla..etc)

read up on the net bro. LOTS of fun things u gotta know that u can do with this bike. just gotta...READ..

Thank you for your advice! I've searched the internet and concurred by the mechanic that the rattling sound is due to the cam tensioner. Now awaiting for spares so for the time being will have to bear the bearable sound =) Anyway, I saw a great and nice single digit FJR at Looi's this afternoon. I finally know what is the difference between the old generation and the latest generations =)

Yes, the metal rattling "tia tia" sound may be due to the cam tensioner and/or timing chain loose. Pls go get your ride check and service soon. FJR is really infamous for having this problem.

It is not about having to bear the unbearable, irritating sound for the time being.

Previously, I know of a FJR-ian who didn't realise this issue and continue riding. His timing chain snapped inside, damaged the interior of his engine. The damages to repair his engine interior is :giddy: :giddy: :giddy:, I heard.

I may be wrong in my advice, but pls do go have your cam tensioner and timing chain checked. Meanwhile, ride slowly and gently and do not rev up and close throttle too suddenly, too often. This may perhaps save your life and your pocket (from a big hole).

Just my 0.000000000000000000002 cents... Pls do not flame me if I am wrong.

Cheers. :)

Hullo bro . . .

If u wanna enter Thailand , just bring along the LTA letter stating u're e current owner . E letter oso have ur bike details . When I went there thru sadao last mth , they just ask for that letter , my passport n RM$20/- for the ins n paper work . They will ask u if u will be exiting thru the same location or by Golok or Betong . Make sure it is stated inside the clearance letter . This is very important cos my fren who is the 3rd owner kena "summon" RM$300 cos the last time the 1st owner entered Thailand thru Golok but exit thru sadao ! Luckily we manage to "talk our way out" of the situation . . . hahaha !

At the custom booth after u get ur ins done , produce ur passport the ins cum clearance form to the custom officer n don't forget to put min RM$2/- inside ur passport !

By e way . . . petrol in thailand is a killer ! !

Mac

Hi bro, many thanks for your valuable advice. I've actually sent my bike to Loois and the mechanics say they do not have the spare and the cam tensioner issue is alright for the time being. However, after what you have just said, I think it is wise for me

to get it checked and changed immediately. I would need your valuable advice on which workshop should I go to or if there is workshop which most of the FJR riders go to for the good workmanship and pricing.

Many thanks for your valuable guidance to a new rider =)

i had my new cam tensioner replace but the ticking sound soften abit. I guess the best still need to change timing chain. Since timing chain needs to open the top engine cover might as well do ur valve clearance and polish ur top block too. Quoted arnd $600 at tachyon motors ah tak and offered to clean my injectors and synchronize it. He is one of the famous mech gd at overhaul big bike engine. Price doesnt include engine oil. He did my frenz r6 and k7 600. Saw his workmanship is good, satisfaction guaranteed.

Cheaper alternative wud be ah chong frm planet motors.
