There was a Babyblade which was at his shop for months, when I ask about that bike they told me its been sold, wonder if its bought by any of the forum members?

i have yet to see a negative comment about planet, so i guess i;ll say a word in fairness here..

bought my sp there few months ago, at a rather cheap price. As usual before handing it over to me ah cheong would test the bike and said " no problem" However Lots of problems emerged.

Firstly the bike couldnt acclerate properly, and i brought it to another place to service, found out that the valve was stuck.

secondly the milege was very low, could only go 120km for full tank.

had to change the fuel jet.

Thirdly there was a problem with the chain, had to change it too.

Lastly was a problem i couldnt fix till now, was the speed of the bike. Cannot seem to accelerate properly beyond 120km/h. Thought it was normal, till other sp riders said they could go 180 or even above 200km/h.

Whenever i bring my bike to ah cheong about the last problem, he would say its normal..

I will not deny that their service is gd and the reasonable price, but sometimes i doubt their credibility too........

hi, can you tell us more problems from your bikes?

any electrical problem? any break down during any time of your riding?

any oil leak, coolant leak?

chain, valve dirty and tyre bald are common maintainences, we normally dont call it a problem, when you get 2nd bike, we will replace those wear and tear parts...

fuel consumption for Sp is high due to 2 strokes engine, it depends on your riding style also...

i dunno about top speed of SP, my 900 can only go 260km/h, if every stock 150 SP can go 200km/h, think i need to downgrade my bike to SP liao... if your bike never breakdown, never had single electrical problem and the engine doesn't need a rebuilt, we consider it is a good bike...

Common problems with 2 strokes bikes.

2 strokes engine are very simple design and cheap to built. And because of this it is designed to be rebuilt and rebuilt..

Ask any hardcore 2 strokers and you will know that the bike should be due for a major overhaul. Problems with carburetors are not frequent. MOst problem need to some overhaul on the intake reed valve, polished exhuast port, check 2T pump, piston ring and/or piston change. Check crank bearings. Usual stuffs..

Major overhaul may sound expensive.. yes for a 4 stroke bike but relatively cheap for a 2 stroke engine.

Maybe the previous owner messed up the jettings and carburation for the bike as well.

Overhaul?? that comes up to quite a large sum. I asked b4 le, think at least 500 bucks or so.... But a few motordiam i went to including planet told me i didnt need to do overhaul.

But i agree with you that my previous owners may have messed up the jettings and settings, cause my caburator have been modified.

Nevertheless, kinda jaded le.... think i change my bike as soon as i get my 2A, prob solved.

Only electrical problem would be the faulty wiring of my speedometer, but maybe thatz due to wear and tear.

And no, my bike has not broken down before, thank god. But anyone of you riding my bike would be frustrated too if you werent able to go faster than 120km/h. Its not impossible, but the acceleration is slower than turtle after that.

And yes i have rev gear by gear till the valve opens like nobodys business, same result.

yeah i understand what u mean but look around, pple with SP say they can go EASILY to 160km/h, maybe highest 180km/h or top speed 200 plus, but knowing u have the same bike but not the same results, wouldnt u feel frustrated too?

eh before i get flamed by hardcore supporters of planet, let me just state that what i said are FACTS, and i still go back to planet because of their family orientated attitude and reasonable price. Anyway thanks for yr feedback bros Sev and civicblade

Hi Niteguyz,

Understand your frustration if your 150cc 2 stroke bike cannot hit 120km/h... this definitely points to some fault with the bike.

The problem with bike shop is that they will not have a chance to test your bike at high speeds.. so if low speed no problem they will say no problem..

Another reason Planet does not want to meddle with your bike is bcos they are not confident at solving your bike problem. Even lthough Ah Chong is a very competent and experience mechanic he is not "God of Bike"

He might be trying to be honest by not touching your bike, it might require some replacement parts (Trial and error) before he can identify the root cause... are you willing to pay for his "experiments". New replacement parts cost money. If he has spares part lying around, i'm sure he will be willing to help, if not are you willing to fork out money for a new carburetor set?

He is a clever/considerate guy, always look at the rider first. If rider are those that are very particular type and able to afford, he will recommended new parts and such. If you are a student, limited cash, alot of stuffs he will not recommend. He always say:"If its not spoilt, don't change"... help ppl save money.

Please don't get the misconception that I am siding with ah chong of planet. He has been my regular mechanic for years.. 2b to 2 to 3... my experience..Kenna chop carrot by many shops during my 2b days before I found him. Overall experience quite good.

But afterall the bike is yours and your life depends on your bike. Don't scrimp on critical preventive maintenance and wear and tear parts. Always make sure that it is your own responsibility that mechanics do a decent job on your bike and be around to supervise them, you have the right cos you are the paying customer.

I almost alwayz drag between 6-7 rpm, sometimes 7+ but i never hit 9-10 cos if i reach around 8 my engine would sound like its going to explode... haha :cheeky:

changing the jettings require tuning of the carb too and i'm not a technical person. Yeah maybe i'll discuss more in the sp thread before i start hijacking this one..... haha....... thanks

huh really? low speed no problem just say no problem? I think at least they should be giving us an honest opinion like wat u said so at least we have a broader perception on our choices. If they know watz wrong at least let us know or give us suggestions like they have to do experiments and stuff to determine the fault instead of just saying theres no problem.

Now that u said it, it does make sense why mechanics keep saying this to me. But are the components of a bike so complex that experienced mechanics cant tell the problems affecting its performance?

Actually, you raised some good points.

You should raise this again with Ah Chong.

He isn't perfect, I can tell. After fixing up my bike on the Saturday following my "screw-in-coil" incident, he (or his mech) forgot to fasten down my seat with the required bolts. I was waxing my bike the next day and realized my seat can be taken off just like tat.

But a good head-bashing and he replaced the bolts the next day as I changed my EO also.

Ah Chong is the best mechanic ive met so far

always full of all kind of jokes to crack

so u wont feel xian while waitin at the shop

very experienced in terms of knowledge

he is the real doctor when my bike get sick

tell him what u encounter better still ask him to ride yr bike

the way he rides be it an R1 or busa

he handles them like a bicycle for a man of his size

ive been with him since my first bike

a tzr until my current bike Cb9

as usual recomended by frens

during dat time his shop no name card / no nets yet

he will stick the "Gold Motorcycle workshop Sticker" on my bike

with his address n tel no on yr bike after he service it

i stay in jurong but still i dun mind goin all the way to Ubi

the price he quote me is always reasonable to me

the best part is the TRUST

cos normally during reservist

i can dump my bike for a week or two

askin him to do all the maintainance n servicing

without having to get worry whether my bike will have parts go missing

and if Ah Chong trust u well enuff???

he will even lend u motorcycle parts if u ask him nicely

whenever im touring hehe i will w/o fail "pinjam" spare rectifier

if u hate waiting call a day b4 and make appointment with doctor Ah Chong

his tel no is easy to remember 6 747474 0

just like the late daijiro katoh bike no

if u are a regular when u call him

his brain will scan yr voice and

he will shout out yr name eg: me

Woi!..... BOtak Cheo San San (my ol Gsxr plate no) or Botak CB9

if yr bike break down n need towing call him 9am t0 7pm

if b4 his shop open or at night

call Ah Tiam 97384501 and ask him send to Ah chong

sure u get gd rate for towing

compared to other towing services dat is around

Dr Ah Chong Doin Wat he is best at on my bike

http://myspace-760.vo.llnwd.net/00155/06/78/155828760_l.jpg

for me i jus tell him my bike num & he'll know who i am. but more or least he hear my voice over the phone & he'll know liao lah, jus tht he dnt know my name
