OK let me address 2 statements, then I'm gonna take mr. fish head curry's advice and leave this thread alone (I had to interpret his words so I hope I got it right...)

I'm happy to apologise for any misunderstandings I caused, or if I misinterpreted anything said here cos i'm not interested in saving face...BUT I don't think I actually backed down from my principles. I still think that the original post that offended me was racially motivated, and even if not downright racist in itself certainly had an undertone of racial prejudice. I've already complained to the moderator about it so I'll wait and see what response I get (if any).

And there are people who immediately accuse ang mohs of not understanding the local culture whenever we disagree with them...I come up against this time and again (but only from people who don't know me) and they are just as guilty of playing the racism card as anyone else...

 

OK, talking about local culture, I didn't want to mention this but seeing as I'm gonna get flamed no matter what I say, here goes...

 

- Is it local culture to sit down on an MRT or bus when there are pregnant women or aunties standing?

- Is it local culture to walk straight past the blind man selling Polos and the crippled woman selling tissues and pretend you don't see them?

- Is it local culture to barge your way onto the MRT without letting passengers get off first, just so you can grab an all-important seat (and then not offer it to someone more needy)

- Is it local culture to treat your maid like a dog (worse in fact, because even the worst tai tai ###### probably wouldn't burn her dog with an iron)

 

I see kiasu f*ckers doing these things every single day (ok, maybe not maids getting burnt by irons, but you get the point...) so is it local culture??? The answer, I'm sure, is NO...but could you blame me if I said yes and told you I'd prefer to keep my western culture where these things rarely (if ever) happen? The only solution is for us to learn from each other...like k2kiwi just said, we're living in a global village now, and *anyone* with prejudices, chips on shoulders, etc. will get squeezed out (quite rightly).

 

This really is the last thing I want to say on the matter...we're hideously off topic, and while we're arguing amongst ourselves the idiot we *should* be talking about is out there doing wheelies without a helmet!!!

 

We're all in the same minority here in that we love bikes...let's just say 'Peace' to each other and move on. Except for the pea-brained mister fishy that is, who's gonna get a serious slapping if he ever swears at me again

Why use "English" name when you think they are stupid? Don't you hv pride in your name given by your parents? I am not supporting ang mohs or locals, just think before you write, it applies to me as well, at times, I might hv accidentally offended some1 here, my sincere apology, to those who think that they dislike Ang Moh culture, don't use their name, use ur own name, be it Ah Beng or Ah Seng, they sound equally nice as Andrew or Kelvin.

So far I've never met any proud or racist ang mos in SG. Had business dealings with them and they're all polite and friendly, much more than most locals.

 

Overseas experience, yes, especially in Paris and US, but glad to say they are just minorities.

 

In SG, racist comments there are, but real racist ppl, I dont tink so. Just take it with a open mind...I've been a target of racism overseas (in Europe and US) too, I just dont bother about wat they say, cos obviously they are ignorant...
