those are the original side panniers.

tx , bro !

most probably be installing it for

my next year trip to Sawadekap country.

Hi,

I know this topic of light bulbs has been asked before. But I don't have the luxury of time to go back page by page to search the history.

So mind if I ask what type of STREET LEGAL (NOT those type of the white-colour superb bright light bulbs) light bulbs are you guys using for your NORMAL head-lights (NOT the high-beam or the two small bulbs below the head-lights which I don't know the name for these two little bulbs)??

My mechanic only has those very very normal "yellowish light" type of bulbs which both blew after a month. I went back to change them and both blew after a month again. I asked them whether they have the original Honda ones, they do not have, thus I am thinking of getting a pair of Philips STREET LEAGL bulbs or Osram brand. Heard such bulbs which costed around S$80 - S$100+ a pair is more long-lasting.

I heard from a friend that Osram brand DO NOT have street legal light bulbs, is it true??

If yes, guess I can only buy Philips bulbs...

I did come across a thread in Garage sales selling Philips bulbs, I can't remember the name of the bulbs the guy is selling. The bulbs has a fanciful name.

So mind if I ask what sort of the Philip bulbs are street legal? Also correct me if I am wrong, our normal head-lights is a H7 bulb, right?? Where can I get such street legal Philips bulbs?? Mustafa??

Thanks very much in advance for any advice.

If my enquiry here seemed stupid and you don't feel like replying, it's okay, but appreciate no flamings. Thank you.

Thanks. :)

mine 98 is using H4 bulbs.. any H4 bulbs will do as long as the wattage is correct.. all u nid to do is look for H4, whether the whiteness is up to ur liking is depending on the brand, luminousity and oso the type of color ie; got bluish white, yellowish white....etc...

the same thing applies if urs is a H7...

osram has street legal bulbs.

philips has street legal bulbs.

so what's street legal bulbs?

"Replacement bulbs must be of a design recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Using a higher wattage bulb may increase the risk of fire because of a greater current being drawn to power these lamps. Therefore, these types of bulbs are not allowed."

vfr is a bulb eater. so no point going for those ex ex bulbs. besides, as tourers, you prefer a good light source over a pretty light source.

my personal favourite (price wise, and brightness wise): osram silverstar and philips vision plus. both selling for about $50 for 2 pairs, ie. 4 bulbs (current promotional rate) and rated at +50%.

Oh, btw, recently when I accelerate, the RPM does not generate the power expected, high rev but does not translate to power.

- originally, only need to clutch in a bit, I will hit the biting point (which I find weird as it is too near to full clutch out, plus no free-play)

Went to Looi's (at closing time, which I really appreciate their good service attitudes) and they had kindly helped to have a look and release some pressure.

- after the pressure is released, the biting point is mid-way between full clutch in/out

Is this indicative of a worn/burnt out clutch plates? Any idea on the costs of replacement for pre-vtec?

So anyone knows the costs to change clutch plates for pre-vtec?

everything the temp goes pass 100, the gear does not seem to be fully engage. Rev high, power lost.

Help.

Sorry, I don't mean to say that I am looking at getting those very ex ex bulbs.

What I mean is that I am looking at other bulbs better than those very very normal cheapo bulbs which most motor-shops are using which cost like S$4 - S$5 per bulb and which will blow after a month or two.

Sorry for my mis-communications.

So mind if I ask further where can I get these Philips or Osram bulbs??

I think Mustafa does sell Philips bulbs, which are locked in their glass cabinets, am I right??

So I must get from Mustafa?? Or is there other shops where I can buy the Philips Vision plus.

Thanks for any advice in advance. :)

Wait,

I thought the Gen 6 are using H7 bulbs???

gen 6 h7

gen 5 h4

Yah...

Both of you are right...

I took a box from my mechanic to take a look at the bulb.

It is a H7 bulb for my Gen 6 ride (a 2006 VFR).

Sorry... I know a lot of questions and queries.

But can I ask something with regards to leaving the bike "un-start" for about 7 - 8 days in a row??

I will leaving for a tour on the last week of Nov and will only return on the 4th of Dec.

So what are the pre-cautions that I can take to make sure that my ride can still be started after I return (and the bike has not been stated for like 8 days??)

Sorry, this is the first time that I am going for such a long holiday with my wife and leaving my "2nd wife" at the MSCP for such a long period of time without starting it.

I know option 1 can be : to put someone as the sub-rider and ask him/her to start the bike/ride the bike around during these few days. But guess I will use this option and cause inconveniences to others.

What other option(s) do I have??

Option 2 : Un-screw the two wires and detach them from the battery so as to make sure that the battery won't go flat after so many days of not starting the bike???

I am concerned that if I leave my bike as it is for 8 days, the battery may go flat/die off and I cannot start it after I return from my holidays.

What other things do I have to look out for??

Once again, thanks very much in advance for any kind advice(s).

Thanks.

another option , bro ...

leave it with your regular motoshop / workshop to look after your 2nd wife.

at least u can have the boss / mechanic to start it every other 2 days.

but not sure whether you have to pay a small amount for the lodging.

hmm... Good idea, Bro sino...

Perhaps I can check with my regular motor-shop to see if that can be arranged... :)

Thanks for your enlightenment... I really never think of that... :)

8 days only, can lah, nothing to worry.

If flat, I have battery charger.

Just concerned that it may go flat lah... :)

If really flat, I also don't want to trouble you to rush down all the way to my MSCP just to charge the battery. Me feel very bad...

Anyway, a very kind gentleman has PM-ed me with valuable advices and what can be done should the battery really go dead.

Thanks, everybody, very much for your kind, valuable advices. *TOUCHED*

Don't worry bro... i go away for 2 weeks, came back and the bike started at first ignition... but go for a ride before u go off on your trip to make sure the battery is charged. worst case scenario, just unplug the battery and charge at a workshop.

On the bulbs, i got mine changed at Looi's for 12 bucks, no problems. It's the standard voltage as recommended in manual. Yellow gives better visibility than white, although white looks more kilat. but i also don't like blinding other motorists, like sometimes i get blinded by those white super white lights. cheers.

Yes, I don't like those superb bright white-coloured bulbs too. :)

I am looking for those "street-legal" yellow-coloured bulbs which are longer-lasting (e.g. Philips or Osram brand) than the normal ones which blew after a month or so. :)

vfr is a bulb eater. so no point going for those ex ex bulbs. besides, as tourers, you prefer a good light source over a pretty light source.

.

I'm now into my 2nd 5th gen 800FI (non vtec) and have never had to replace a single headlamp bulb. In fact I upgraded mine to 90/100w bulbs at $5 a pc and has had no prob. Maybe the 6th genners electrics are weaker?:cheeky:

thot i share this so as to moderate the scary "bulb eater" line.

Thanks for your clarification, Mr vfrT.

So any Philips bulbs to recommend??

My two head-lights bulbs really blew and my VFR became "blind" a month after I got them changed (normal cheap yellowish lights bulbs) at my bike-shop. This happens twice and I think end of this month or early next month is the "estimated next bulbs-blowing" time and I am prepared for any "blindness" (if you know what I mean) any time end of this month or early next month.

the 6th gen has a lot of electronic gremlins. how that affects the bulbs i do not know, but definitely it's a bulb eater ;)
