Yah, I heard they have stopped the production Blackbird totally. Looks like the viffer800 is going towards that direction...

But then I heard from a friend, he mentioned that there will be a new VFR 1000 which is using a V-5 engine. I don't know how on earth can they fit 5 pistion into a V position.

But anyway, it is a hearsay only. :)

Wonder how the 5 cylinder engine works as compared to a V-4??

How to have 5 cylinders in V position??

hmm... Imagine an Inline-5 engine...

the old motogp engine used in the rcv211 is a v5.

unfortunately, you can tell your friend the vfr1000 v5 rumour was heard in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and oh... 2008 now. blackbird cbr1100xx was supposed to get the v5 in 2004, 2005, 2006... but err... they stopped production in 2006.

If that's the end of the VFR, then all our bikes will become collectors' items :)

But I've read in a few mags that Honda is very proud of the technologically advanced VFR and its long tradition... hope it carries on. I would like a litre VFR too... waiting... :D

As VFR is in the sports touring family, has anyone considered or owned a Triumph Sprint ST before? Any views appreciated... :p

I love my VFR, but on the lookout to see what's next out there.

I have an american friend where I recommended him to get the Truimph Sprint ST over the VFR because in the US the prices are almost the same, the Triumph has a better engine, lighter bike by 17lbs which is not very noticable, but the grunt of the engine as a 1 litre bike is better, our beloved VFR is a little underpowered for it's weight, but than again, comparing American roads and Singapore roads, they have more roads to ride, in Singapore it is more economical to ride a 800cc VFR, but according to my friend the quality of the Honda is far superior than the Truimph but power wise the Truimph win, everything else like handling and riding he felt the Truimph was either better or on par.

Just my two cents.

Thanks very much, your comments are indeed very informative.

I notice just from website searches that the Sprint doesn't cost much (relative to similar bike, like VFR), but apparently in Singapore, OTR is about S$30k. In fact, I think potential buyers of BMW bikes suffer the same predicament, as list prices overseas don't price them as much as in Singapore. Perhaps it's the agent or tax or whatever, but a new BMW is pretty much uneconomical to own (to me).

I did read a few mag reviews on the Sprint, which puts it above the VFR performance-wise, although I don't recall the part on quality. Design-wise, it is very striking, and also a rare breed here. I am considering one, but mainly for its looks and higher capacity... not sure if that's wise. Also, I am not sure about the availability of parts and such.

i was asking mah for the triumph sprint st for almost a year. they didn't want to bring it in initially. however, they relented when an ang moh make payment for the first. so that was an opportunity for the sprint st had i wanted to. for me, it was always a toss up between sprint st and vfr.

sprint st

pros: distinctive looks + a triple engine. comes stock with boxes. better suspension (vs vfr).

cons: poor ergonometric as a sports tourer (important for old people/people getting older). more expensive. poor quality finish.

but the biggest problem on the sprint st than shun me away from it.... heat problem. and those complains about heat are coming from people living in the UK! not quite comforting considering that we are living in the tropics. triumph solution to the heat problem is quite laughable imho. they have basically added an insulation to the inside of the fairing (07+ model) so it doesn't feel that hot. good enough for you?

since the sprint st is here in mah, you may want to take a look. having finally seen it in person, i say i had a lucky escape when i went for the vfr instead. although i have not been able to test the heat problem, the rack for the box and the way it is designed looks fugly and looks like an afterthought rather than part of the bike. about the spares, no worries, mah (or 1 of its subsidiaries) has it. besides, the same 1100 engine is used on the rest of the triumph bikes, so they basically shares most of the stuff any way.

Another point is that friends in the US whom tested both felt he power side the Sprint is the winner, in the US before they buy a bike they have test ride bikes for them to try.....(so good) between the two he went for the ST even though the Interceptor has a huge following in the US.

I saw one Ang Mo today on the road on the ST, personally I prefer the styling of the VFR which was well ahead of it's time when it was designed.

I actually went to see one someone is letting go... i thought a very nice design, pity the side panniers don't store a full-face. Not sure about the heat, but the triple stock exhausts sure give a beautiful sound. I decided against it partially cautious about resale. But anyone interested check out the garage sales section. Owner is very friendly guy, and the bike is almost brand new and in beautiful condition. Hope he manages to sell it.

Think for Singapore roads, 800cc is more than enough unless you go up NSH alot, but in the US, I think 1 litre bikes are better since for some of them a daily commute can be 100 miles for some of them.

Personally I would like my VFR to be atleast 1000 cc.

Hi guys, I am considering a new vfr from Bike Production, does anyone has any experience dealing with them on new bikes?

All I can say is that they have the lowest prices around. No bull pricing. Scout around and you'll see what I mean.

How much did Ah Swee quote you?
