Gnarrrly.

But does it compromise anything?

hmm... actually its quite comfi for me. cos i always travel from jurong to bedok. the only prob is i should have add more cushion for my pillion. tats all. but i think i spend abt $80 doing it.

Maybe you guys(those interested in the RIDER's backrest), can try searching for our neigbour's produce bike, Jaguh, aka Kawasaki Boss(I think), this bike has a moveable backrest, meaning, it can be shifted to front for rider when riding in alone, or for pillion when in tandem.

Some modification have to be done I think.

White powdery dust.

Does anyone here know why i keep getting white powdery dust like thing on my front right side? keep getting it on the fender and frame only. Wiping it off but it still keeps coming back. Is it a symptom from my engine or something or it's from the places that i ride?? Any feedback would be appreciated, Thanks.

Anyone noes how much the ABS as mentioned cost to have to installed?

i got it from ah koon, and cost 40$ last time, includes installation.

not sure about new stock, coz what i installed was last item.

so far.. it saves fish-tail of the bike. but dont know how it will perform on long term as there is no instruction or expiration of date.

I am really curious, but how did you come to the conclusion that it does what its supposed to do?

Basically how ABS works relies alot on physics... explaining it simply, when u brake real hard it will result in skidding due to the rolling motion of the wheel, and the ABS comes in bydoing intermittent braking for u instead, this increases ur traction on the road and reduces or eliminate skidding.

I'm quite curious abt bike's ABS though, do u need to install new brakes or it can work on ur old one?

i.m.o, if you ride safely, you wouldn't need an abs

u skid due to rolling motion? i thought it's the other way around? skid because you arrest the rolling motion of the wheel...

in any case you can use manual abs...do intermitten braking yourself. i think no need to waste money buying such contraptions.

bro... i aint bike expert and only riding for 6 months.

so..what i say here is based on what i experienced.

once we went to kukup with Valerie and frnds, and the lead bike suddenly stop at up slope on country road (pot holes, rain-wet, malaysian road).

all the bikes in row jam break to follow suit.

i also jammed break and my bike stopped orderly.. while the bike behind me, also phantom got wheel locked and fell..

nothing much serious, just bruises on rider and bike.

but that was the time when ABS works on my phantom..

it may be vary due to reaction time or bike condition though.

I will be frank and say I find the little $40 cartridge ABS really dubious. So cheap and so small, while the proven systems are costly and complicated...

FACT:

That 'ABS cartridge' is installed BETWEEN the brake line and the caliper. IF it fails, you will have NO REAR brakes. Is the long term realiability proven? is it safe? is there a manufacturer's warranty? which manufaturer anyway? what other bike parts to they make? what is their track record? are there reviews from previous customer that I can refer to? how long has this item been in the market? THESE are pertinent questions I would ask when buying such an important upgrade as an ABS. I do not know the answer to any of these with regards the "ABS cartridge" and I don't know if anybody has that answer.

Maybe I'm playing the devil here, but from a safety point of view, I have ZERO confidence in this contraption & I worry for my fellow riders that install it. I hope I am wrong & that the thing works (apparently it does). But its not enough that it works.. it has to work RELIABLY each time and everytime.

I feel that the risk of installing this item is not justified. IMHO, a Phantom does not need ABS. With good tyres, proper E-brake technique and mindfullness while riding, most riders will be able to manage most braking situations on a Phantom.

Lastly, its your choice to use the ABS, there will be no impact to me, but I do urge newbies who are thinking of installing that "ABS cartridge" to think and think again, weigh the pros and cons, get all the facts, THEN make an educated decision. Don't install it just coz someone else says its good...

1) Try different oils whenever you change EO every 2000km. Finally you will find one that "feels" the best for your bike. There are too many different EO preferences between riders and seriously there is no scientific way to determine the best EO. It REALLY depends on which feels the best to you

2) Many PKs would recommend Metzeler or Pirelli.

3) Engine? its a dull matt finish and will remain that way no matter what you do. Don't bother trying to polish it till it shines like chrome coz its not gonna happen. For cleaning, normal degreaser and carwash detergent will do.

cheers!

appreciate your concern and knowledge brother..

and i do accept that with good tyre and proper emergency braking technique, phantom can be managed well.

but for me, still newbie, what i have spent for 40$ is working till now.

and again for such product without any certification nor warranty, i dont know how long will it last and there's worry of one day it might simply "expire" and fail, hense "no rear break" or "jam till solid".

That's the point. You don't know how long it will last. Can you and are you willing to take the risk that that device might give up on you during a critical period? Even with 'proven systems', these uppity contraptions on bikes simply don't do what they do for cars. Take for example the Blackbird. Lots of riders actually disable their linked brake system after acquiring the bike, because it actually makes the bike more dangerous in corners rather than safer.

erm, isn't brake dust supposed to be blackish? A friend mentioned that if the EO touch water, it turns whitish, but i doubt so as my filler cap is v v tight. any other reason for the talcum white dust? just want to check if it is a symptom of something, otherwise minor then,... Thanks anyway.

anyway, also tend to get a problem with changing down my gears; the pedal seems to drop suddenly (the feeling, u know u know??) from 3rd to 2nd, then it ends up in Neutral, and when i kick it to 1st, it has a very stomach twisting "CLANG!" sound. :giddy:

At first i thought i did not clutch in fully and thats why the gears meshed or stm. however, when it happened again, i consciously clutched in all the way. Ended with the same sickening "CLANG!". Noticed this happens only when i'm kicking the gears fast on the move. And it happens occasionally, but too much of an occasion for me to ignore. Is it my clutch is too tight? needs to be loosen?? Help, thanks.
