[Archived - 2009] PK Official- Questions for Newbie

Hi again

Wonder if anyone has the service manual pdf of the TA 200. If yes, please let me (us) know

Cheers

I just love the looks, feel and sound of an old good Guzzi, though it has been around since the time of my Grandfather. I guess "they" don't do things like that anymore! Well it's not true.

"They" still do URALS

Thanks Mamduh!

Another noob question coming:

PKs, any pointers on how to improve engine mileage for TA200?

i.e. should I go sloow in my initial pickup and not kick 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear very quickly? I've been engine braking alot, but I think my mileage clocked since my last petrol top up could be better.

Posted

To improve mileage, check your tire pressure. I used to pump 220psi for back n 200psi for front.

Dun drag your gears n change gears quickly. Den cruise to the speed u wan at the highest gear.

Eh my bike sometime i go in gear 2 or 3 ah then i let go clutch and rev throttle

The gear will drop to the lower one (eg. go in 2 drop to 1........3 drop to 2)

Then cause it to over rev......anyone noe whats wrong or need to be change?

Sianz..... :S

Hmm.. does anyone here happens to find the bolt connected to your seat missing? I'm refering to the bolt which connects the seat to the frame.. I juz found mine missing.. Does it mean tat someone is attempting to steal my seat or maybe it juz broke off? Anyone encounter this situation b4? Thanks..

Feb 06 till Present - Phantom TA200 Custom 4

Sometimes Results may be Disappointing, but it's never Discouraging..

dun worry.

if really wanna take ur seat, it'll be good in less than a minute.

most probably is the screw is loose, and dropped out during one of ur rides.

it's a common screw, shd be size 10 if not wrong. just get one from any hardware stores that sells screws etc...

if not sure of size, just takeout the other side screw and show the shop.

cheers!

need help... my headlight is not original, recently bulb fused, so went to LAB got this blue colour light bulb, its not halogen, the packaging states its plasma zenon, with xenon gas filled... i know blue headlight confirm cant pass inspection... but this special blue bulb shines out normal colour light like any bulb... so 1st qns is if its blue colour bulb and shine normal colour light, is it legal? can pass inspection?

next, ever since my original bulb fused, my rear light cant light up... i mean normally if u switch on headlight, the rear light (where the brake light is also situated) will light up together with the speedo's light rite? 2nd qns is if on headlight but the rear light not on, how much to fix? can DIY?

lastly, juz changed new front brakes about 2 weeks ago, dunno wat brand is it, but sometimes i hear sound coming from there, like a light "zn....g" sound and when braking, like got screeching noise, din happen last time.... so final qns, anything wrong with my dear brakes?

thanks for any help....

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy a bike, and that's close enough.

your rear light seems like a blown 'low-beam'. open up the case, take out the bulb and see. if got a wire inside snapped, its time to change a new one.. $1 per bulb if i'm not wrong. cheers!

Thanks Chikyblink! Some other noob Qns:

1st Question: Will I cause the engine harm if I kick up the gears fast when moving off from stationary position? Gear 1 .. 1 sec then kick to 2.. then 1 sec then kick to 3 while revving throttle.. 0-30km/h in 3secs ? Will this affect mileage performance? Or is it recommended to go slowly... accelerate very slowly for a TA200?

2nd Question: Dragging gears cause bad mileage. How abt "over gearing"? i.e. my speed is at 30km/h, but I'm at gear 6. then I'll just rev up to increase my speed. Is this harmful for the engine?

3rd Question: when I'm riding on sections on the PIE, I'm usually at gear 6. Would it be better to kick down to a lower gear when I see an uphill slope ahead? Or better to maintain at 6th gear and proceed?

To achieve good mileage, its always good to accelerate slowly. Dun drag your gears, but dun lug your gears either. You'll have to know your bike well to change gears at the correct speed.

This is called lugging your gears. Not recommended at all. Use the correct gear at the correct speed.

3rd Question: when I'm riding on sections on the PIE, I'm usually at gear 6. Would it be better to kick down to a lower gear when I see an uphill slope ahead? Or better to maintain at 6th gear and proceed?

If there's clear traffic, just maintain your speed and proceed.

Shouldn't be a problem...I passed inspection with 'blue' headlights too. Somemore the light is white.

Can DIY. Change bulb lor if fused.

Your brakes are new and sitting in. Noise is normal.

I was also wondering abt engine braking.. whenever I approach red traffic lights, I'll close throttle and kick down gears to engine break.

Most of the time, I'll be able to come to a stop with super minimal help from applying my front and rear brakes. So I tot.. not bad ..can conserve brake pads/ discs.

but here comes the question of whether it's bad for the engine..?? How to execute a proper 'engine' brake, so as not to damage our engines?

Posted

Sorry Noob with lots of questions here!! always scratching head.. I appreciate any help!

I can find past threads on this.. so.. here goes.. What's the proper procedure to push start our TA200?? Engage 2nd or 3rd gear.. Push.. gain speed.. press the start button.. rev throttle??

Thanks!!

hey ppl, me another noob here. I jus bought my bike few days back , then today rode my fren to eat prata at upp thomson, later when i tried to start my bike , found out cannot, tried to push start my bike, aft few attempts then can... wahaha, rode to yishun Industrial park to get my batt change,

cost me $40, is it expensive?

I also find difficulty in changing gear, do i need to sent for servicing? Is there any good motordiams in the North?

40 is a rather pricey. For your 2nd question, change EO and see how.

there is no 'proper way'...simply avoid using the engine brake to slow down from high speeds as this will place a great strain on your engine internals...other than that is more or less okay.

you mean,

1. second gear

2. clutch in

3. press start

4. throw clutch immediately?
