Can elaborate more on why the ABS is not good for phantom & what is the negative impact? Concerned cos the Phantom I'm targeting has ABS installed...

do you understand what does ABS stands for?

i know in cars, it supposedly avoids wheel locks that will cause skidding... same for bikes? if so, why is it bad?

ABS= all bull sh!t

naw, just joking.

i think someone mentioned before

ABS mean anti brakelock system

why do you need less braking force when we don't have enough to stop this bull?

here's previous post about so called ABS.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138085

i have it on my bike, i got it as noob rider, wanted to get good stuff for my bike, and ah koon recommended it.

it was useful, that time i still not know the full potential of the rear break that could get wheel lock by hard stepping on breaks.

but now i can ride without it, and feels that rear break is not dependable (cant jam break, coz stopping distance is longer)

the thing is still functioning, it's just adapter on break line, that open and release pressure. prevents wheel lock, but cant help when u want to jam breaks..

so anyone wants... i sell u very cheap.. (or give away for a kopi).. hahahha

different from car or proper ABS bikes (blackbird, FJR, STX, bmw and such)

they are intelligent ABS, they only prevent the wheel from locking when you are about to skid.

this cheapo ABS is dummy guy, whenever u step on it, it open and close the valve, release and apply pressure. saving wheel lock everytime.

that whey u want to stop immediately, it dont understand and still release the breaks, (break still apply and stop) but longer breaking distance.

even when i went for inspection at VICOM, they test for rear break on roller.

i step on break as per normal and failed first time.

next time, i step on breaks ahead to apply the breaks then i passed.

so instead of just eliminating wheel lock, ABS rsults in less presssure applied to the brakes?

No one apply just the rear brakes for a full stop. IF the ABS allows full extent of the brakes to be applied except for that last bit that makes the wheel lock, then the front break should be able to compensate for that last bit to make the bike stops... so does it?

It doesn't result in less pressure per se, it results in less CONSISTENT pressure on your brakes.

Of course the rear brake should not be used alone when stopping, and if you think you're able to use the crappy front brakes to compensate for the loss of braking power in the rear by squeezing the front more, you're welcome to take the ABS. One thing for sure, if you jam your front brake too hard in the wet to compensate for the rear....I can only say that the rear wheel locking and sliding around is a far more recoverable situation than your front wheel locking.

I've yet to own a phantom (or even abike) so no practical experience on the ABS.. just talking theory only...

The phantom that I wanna get is already fitted with the ABS so dats y I wanna learn more abt it... the front wheel locking sounds quite scary.. so should I just get the ABS off one the 1st day I get the bike (been raining these past few days so better safe than sorry?) or try the bike with the ABS on then decide...

dont think so much about it.. average bike with 2 wheel will get to ur destination.

this so called ABS is just a small valve at selling price 40 $.

if u want bike readily equipped with ABS, i might sell it off.. hahaha
