Hi guys, i'm confused by some differences between the servicings at planet and koon's that i need to rationalize...

Today i went to planet to change E.O. I was only given 1L... no need top up another 200ml which is usually the case @ koon's. But after running awhile, everything cool dip stick lvl was at the top.

Asked ah chong full servicing got pao what, he say something check this that... didn't really get it lol but when i ask if got wash carb, he say NOOoooo.... if wash carb will spoil easily... but @ koon's full servicing always wash carb....

Oh lao jiaos... pls enlighten a noobish one...

Same here. He and some experienced riders told me that must refrain from opening the carb unneccesarily. As for the oil don't know how it started to be 1.2 L cos the honda manual only state 1L and routine check. Pouring more than required it add stress (nowadays bikes also get stress) to the gasket. Personally I have never added 200 ml and so far so good.

Just do routine check every week or two and add if neccessary.

Chong is fairly honest. If is not spoilt, he will not fix it (meaning won't slaughter you for things your bike doesn't need.

The drawback is only that he has this unnatural fobia of spiders. So next time you hear him pouring every imaginable curse, chill coz he is aiming at those blasted spiders:dot:

I just love the looks, feel and sound of an old good Guzzi, though it has been around since the time of my Grandfather. I guess "they" don't do things like that anymore! Well it's not true.

actually 1L is stadand. by right only top up when it fall below the reqirement from your dip stick .. additional 200ml is for those lazy dun check so as to keep then within safe zone till the next EO change.

1L will be healthier to maintain.

for carb washing i got no comment. but i know phantom carb like easy to leak petrol from the opening... not sure whether is it open to many time or over float that why leak

by chong is seriously good or best i say.. he help you save your pocket one.

no need to change he wouldn't ask you to change and earn you $$ one.... he can talk when come to $$ but other place might not have this good thing... even for old bird.

based on the honda manual 220 front and back. I pump the back 230. You can try both and see if you feel any difference. For me tight tire feels better.

i go 200 front 220 rear...coz i think phantom has a crappy tire selection, so lowering the pressure gives me more grip, hopefully.

Hey man you're goin extreme with the changes, but as long as you don't change name is fine. At least we know where to "knock, knock".

1 question though (got many but I will go slow).

Whenever tire hits uneven road surface (eg. new tar /old tar ) it wobles quite scarily, as if slipping off my feet. Could it be bearing? How to make sure?

Thanks

metalfyre: took me a while to realise what the 2 stickmans are doing

wanna ask you, someone's clutch cable happens to "brake"/malfunction while riding, what should he do? I know its okay to kick your gears up wards w/out clutching in and w/out revving but downwards? lets say your engine is not running, worse case scenario

Your tire pressure may be too high. If you want to test your bearings, prop your bike up on a jack or a paddock stand, and try to shake the wheel front and back. If it moves, your bearings are shot.

2k is for oil change ba. Full servicing normally every 10k. Includes a plug change, air filter check/change, possibly washing your carbs if they're giving you grief.

If the clutch cable snaps while riding, find the earliest opportunity to move over to the roadside and stop. If engine is not running...meaning what? Engine off? Or idling waiting at traffic light?

loose chain? dry chain?

if no jack, how do we lubricate the chain other than the push bike method? is it necessary to buy chain spray or can just use any oil? singer for instance?

Liverpool revival has started....

The "singer" jinggle came to my mind when i read this man. Dun just use any oil bro, there are proper stuffs for certain things. Some bros here use engine oil for it. There is also wax and spray. I tried using some spray last time but i dun feel that its effective. Using GP1 chain wax now....and i think and feel "personally" that its good enuff for me. Can be gotten at bikeshops for 8 or 9 bucks i think.

I want to see the world and i'm pretty sure the world wants to show a little something to me.

get a friend to help you lift up the rear wheel..then lube.

some use carjacks, what I find needs to be accompanied with that method is some bike shops' methods. Find a wooden block and let your side stand rest on it, with a jack, elevate your bike. The wooden block's height should determine how much your bike can go vertically w/out slanting too much to the left ;)
