Hi folks,

I'm just wondering where I can buy half-cap helmets, preferably a place where there's a variety cos I'm sure everyone's wearing the common leather covered half shell with tinted goggles. It would be even better if there is an outside lobang to order for cheaper and less common looking types.

not advisable to wear those...

Hey Man. buying a second hand phantom?

might really do you good if you browse 1/2 of the forum to know more about phantom and generally abt bike maintenance.Caz 2nd hand phantom most likely will need to replace/repair some parts. Anyway, i just bought my 2nd hand FY plate TA200 not too long ago too. So i'll juz try to fill you in on the details.

First,What specs of bike u wan.150cc or 200cc?

Second,Your budget?if u can do with 6k get 1st hand.if not get from private seller or wkshp.

third,what plate u looking for?FU/FW/FX/FY???

Fourth,Any other considerations u have?

Fifth,insurance.1st party?3rd party with fire/theft or3rd party.

From what i had gathered from this forum, the plate price rang is as follows:

FV 2.6k-2.8k

FX 3.2k-3.4k

FW 3.0k-3.2k

FY 3.4K-3.6K

pm me if u need further details.

actually last few day when to a bike shop and saw one FX phantom TA200 with 15K mileage.

and is selling 2600 for the machine only. cos i intent to get installment as dun have enough cash therefore can't really get from private owner.

then the external condition for the bike i saw is good... no dent etc but haven't test out the bike..

but then there only one phantom they have for selling..

2.6k for a FX? is it a 200cc or 150cc?

anyway sounds like a good price for a FX plate. but if everything in how?interest?installment?insurance? maybe you should pay more attention to the bike impt components.like engine and forks.might be accident bike??

Have another question, got my bike from a bike shop a couple of weeks back, and the IU has been dismantled because it is said to be faulty. Currently still waiting for the bike shop to source for a second hand IU, but the wait is getting unbearable. Thought I might as well go get a new one, but not sure if I can just go to Vicom without the old IU. The bike shop I bought the bike from is not one of the "authorised IU centres". Will appreciate some advice!

As quoted from onemotoring.com.sg:

I went to get a new IU without any problem, merely told the person that I bought the bike without a IU from a shop. So much for the paranoia...

actually.. i went down to the shop again yesterday,.... is 45k mileage.. not 15k my mistake...

but then i acutally ask around and found out that other shop selling FX plate phantom (or 2 to 3 yrs ago bike) cost about 2.8k and above

but this shop selling 2.6k.. therefore abit worry..

then he quote me total 3.1K including 2nd party, interest and admin fee....

Hi All,

It's been sometime since I visit this thread. Welcome to PK.

paradoxicalz,

Most of the Motordiam sure ketok you one lor....best you get it from direct from a user. Nonetheless, bear in mind that it is a 2nd hand bike....therefore, there will be wear and tear. If you are a fussy person, den I recommend you to get a brand new bike....because by the time you finish all your repair, the bike is almost like you are buying a new bike....like me lah.....:cheeky:

Ah Pui,

Side box is going to be huge, GIVI E33 side painer is good for one helmet each....but is huge lor.....You have to take into consideration that you will not be able to squeeze between cars anymore......

2.6K for Phantom at 15K mileage is a good buy.....:cheer:

Izrin,

Usully I will recommend Auntie shop, a few shop next to Ah Boy. But I don't really like auntie's attitude....really sucks man....I recommend you the shop next to auntie...

If you want a good good one, Go to Chong Aik near Mustafa....they got quite good looking one.....

Today just went to Planet to change my chain for $60 & chain guide for $10. After installing the chain, my axle nut is already on half of the adjustment scale already.

Is it normal for new chain?

Is it possible to remove just 1 nut from the chain in order to shorten it?

The chain guide is Honda one. I think that one good. But my $60 chain is X-ring somemore. I think it is not going to last very long coz X-ring supposed to be even more expensive.

Haizz.. Also, PKs, if you ever change your chain in Planet, tell Dr.Chong not to put that wax on the chain. He used a wax from a yellow tub. The wax he put on my chain causes so much flings that within a short ride my whole rim turns black. Even my stand also turns black.

Hello everyone! Can you help with a few things:

1. Is it necessary to swith the fuel tank to "OFF" when parking overnight?

2. Does tuning the idling speed affect maximum speed?

3. Is it feasible to get a GPS-pda for the TA200? I'm tired of getting lost.

Thanks so much mates!

1. Is it necessary to swith the fuel tank to "OFF" when parking overnight?

Individual Preference. Some people prefered while some dont.

But definetly turn off has its own advantage.

Just make sure you can rem to turn the knot backthe very next day.

2. Does tuning the idling speed affect maximum speed?

Yes

3. Is it feasible to get a GPS-pda for the TA200? I'm tired of getting lost.

No. Know your way well. There are always street directory for you to start off.

Its part and parcel of getting yourself onto the road.

Familierise your way the hard way works better than getting a GPS system.

I can still remember my first time on the road, From woodland I was heading to Bukit merah via PIE , I ended up in pasir ris instead. Took me 2 hrs to reach my destination in the end.

Hi die2self777,

I m not going to answer the 1st 2 question as there are already expert doing that. But for your 3rd question, I am the expert as that is part of my job.

3. Is it feasible to get a GPS-pda for the TA200? I'm tired of getting lost.

There are a few things you need to consider before purchasing PDA-GPS.

1) Where are you going to place the system while riding?

2) How sensitive you like your system to be?

3) What is your budget?

For a decent system with SiRF Star III picking up to a maximum of 20 satellite will cost you around $200 for the GPS Receiver. The PDA software and the map is free where you can get it from http://www.malsingmaps.com. Make sure you contribute to the forum once you know how to use it.

The system is sensitive to a proximity of 1~5 meters. That is consider very good. I believe you might have got a PDA for GPS on it, den you might need to pay for the map, else we are all using GARMIN OEM.

Now come to the most crucial part. Where are you going to place the system? If you are driving, then reading and driving is never a problem. But it will be very dangerous if you try to ride and read the GPS at the same time. Safety is critical. For me, I got tank bag with transparent pocket. I place the system in the transparent pocket. If I need to read my position, I will just pull one corner to read my position.

REMEMBER: IT IS NOT WISE TO READ AND RIDE AT THE SAME TIME. SAFETY IS CRITICAL.

If you ask my opinion, is it useful. To me, it is, because I use it for touring up to Malaysia and at the same time for my job as well. Therefore, getting familiar with the system is part of my job. If you have spare cash and wanted to know more about GPS. Get the cheapest mean. I can help you with the system if you want. Just PM me. I can show you how it works.
