would be great if u can do a red-wine reduction mushroom sauce.....

oil and shallots pan fry, add in button mushrooms to stir fry, then pour in some red wine to reduce to half its content, then add in the brown sauce and cook.....

can thicken the sauce with a little corn starch or tapioca flour.....

:hungry:

Pauche, u sound experience with steak cooking, y not u organize 1 steak diner & u the chef? Sure go 1 & Dun mind 2 pay too :cheeky:

FYI, The Grill is no more in Devonshire, existing place is now Barstop. Duno whether they have wind up or shifted to somewhere else....

it's still run by the same company. but the concept changed to a bar type place rather than an English restaurant. the Japanese place next door is also run by them.

hmm...heard alot abt morton's...anybody any idea how much wld it cost for 2 to hav dinner there(agar agar)??? :cheeky:

very expensive - that will set you back like $300.

there's only one way to eat morton's beef cheap - go to the morton's bar before seven.

from five to seven, you can order a martini and get free steak sandwiches.

remember this is the morton's BAR outside the restaurant. step inside the restaurant at your own peril!

That's a pity, they used to have excellent steaks and i liked the ambiance.

I strongly suggest that you avoid Jack's if you want good steak.

For value for money, I've two recommendations:

1. Phin's Steakhouse at Liang Seah Street:

http://www.phins.com.sg/

2. Les Bouchons at 7 Ann Siang Hill

You won't regret it.

upz for phin;s Stakhouse

wonderful steak...

Uh, Morton's?

Or there's this place at simpang bedok... steak drowned in thick mushroom gravy... slurp!

mortons are tip frickin top. black angus has good meat but weak cooking style, so maybe they are twonkers. But the cow must have been a beautiful little bovine.

Never been to Morton's but i certainly heard of it's reputation for great steak.

Lawry's is nice too, thought it's not steak but prime roast beef.

Just Steak at River Walk has good steak. Set meal will set you back from 69+++ onwards. I've been there it's pretty good.

Honestly though, a good steak pretty easy to do on your own. Just go to a good butcher to get a good cut. I normally go to Swiss Butchery at Bt Timah or the Espirito Santo at Thompson Rd. 300grams is more than enough for ave guy, 250 for girls. A good rib eye will be about 3.50 to 4.50, which only amounts to $13.50 max per steak.

Slap it on the pan at high heat for 2 to 4 min per side depending on the doneness you want, and viola you got yourself a bad ass steak!

For sauce, you can get the marinated steaks, and add wine to the leftover marinades and other ingredients (you gotta experiment), to get a great sauce.

The only i can't do at home is fries, so i normally do mashed patatoes.

Thanks for the recommendation of the butchers, Steppenwolf. I also rather cook it myself.

(sigh) after thinking of visiting these places, I'm getting hungry again. There's always room for steak and more steak !!

:hungry:
