:thumb: Hello everyone, :thumb:

I am soon to take my 2B licence and i am just wondering what bike to get in the future because i need to go and shortlist the bikes all.

The problem that i have is that i am abit tall and also abit big size. I am 185cm in height. I am just thinking what bike would suit me and i would greatly appreciate your views.

What i am looking for in a 2B bike is that it is not expensive and hopefully it is at least nice looking.

Why i am doing this is because i dont want to be like this huge guy squatting on this tiny bike trying to reach for the gears and ride around letting the whole of singapore to be laughing in my face. hehehe :cheeky:

I really hope you'll help me out on this.

Thank you very much

Regards,

Guess you'll have to see what criteria is more important to you. Is it the cost of maintenance, the looks, or the fuel consumption and stuffs like that?

2B bikes are generally not that expensive as compared to the rest of the classes. You mentioned nice looking, I can only tell you sportsbikes are the most nice looking, but of course the cost of it is the highest amoung the different types of bikes.

Good luck!

From what you had said, you dont want to be a huge guy squatting on a small bike means Kups are out for you. Given your height, i think its very perfect for you to ride a scrambler.

Sportsbike may still be desirable for you althought sports FC and maintenance are kinda high.

Normal road bikes like the Yamaha YBR and the RXZ might be good as the FC is low and maintenance of the bike is generally cheap.

Its still comes down to what hellmurderer said, see what criteria is more important to you.

2B sportbikes are generally tiny in size (NSR150SP, KRR150, TZM150), except maybe for the 2 Italian ones (Aprilia RS125 and Cagiva Mito) which are slightly larger with taller seats and are closer to 2A bikes, size wise. Better for taller/larger ppl like yourself.

Downside to the Italians is that they generally need more attention, maintenance wise. Parts may cost more too. If you're buying a used bike, you'll also have to inspect it closely to see if the last owner maintained it well.... or you may be buying a trouble-ridden junk heap.

Not to say that an Italian bike is expensive to maintain under normal circumstances. Same one bottle of engine oil, same single spark plug. But it's just that you have to treat it with more.... love. ;)

Having owned an RS125, I can say that the experience is a lot diff from owning a Jap 2B bike. The Italian bike feels more planted anytime.

Thanks DeusExMachina. you explain the stuff well.

i am thinking of a second hand rs125 but my friend said that it is expensive to maintain and also it is expensive to buy.

but i like the bike very much. it looks damn cool too. the tank is nice size and the bike is not only higher than most other 2B bikes but it is broader too.

but am curious to know if it is recommended for a learner to get an italian machine because i get alot of mixed reviews. :)

Hey lfcskull22, in my opinion, if your budget permits, you should really get something that you like. At the end of the day, it's your ride, and you'll be the one riding it. Why care about what other people think? As long as you're comfortable riding the bike, and you really like it, it will serve you well.

For the Italian Class 2B Sportsbike, like the RS125 & Mito, money really comes into play for the 2 bikes. First, the machine price is usually higher than the Japanese 2B Sportsbikes. Second, as what DeusExMachina has said, the cost of maintenance is high too. So if you can really afford it, have the passion for Italian bikes, or if you're intending to ride the bike for long, by all means get it. But if you're looking to upgrade in a years time after you get your 2A, maybe a SP or KRR will do. Save up the money for a bigger bike.

Hope this helps you in your search! See you on the road soon! :thumb:

You are right but you are sure missing out something....both SP and KRR are made in Thailand but still Honda and Kawasaki are Japan products, just due to the cost of production thats why the setup a factory in Thailand...it doesn't matter where the bikes are produce but which country owned the brand of the bike...

Don't get a new one. Not worth it.

If you can find a used one in GOOD condition, then it'll be OK.

Go here to ask more:

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71802

Maintenance wise... like I said... it's the same as any 2B bike. One plug, one bottle EO. And the regular 2T top up. Cost the same to maintain.

The difference is that, if you don't maintain it well and it starts to break down, then the parts will cost you an arm and leg. For the RS125, one of the thing that needs attention (and could be an irritation) is the powervalve unit. It's a guillotine design, unlike the RC valve found on the Jappos. It jams a little easier if you don't whack the bike (open valve) enough. So, whack it a bit from time to time... but not all the time either. Cleaning the powervalve can also be a DIY affair if you know how to take the fairing off and the tank up. For more info on this, ask the Aprilia guys.

Riding-wise, it's no more powerful than the other Jap 2B bikes. It's a bit heavier, it has 25cc less, so going by math, it will not pick-up as quickly as the Japs. But what you will have is better cornering stability. Thicker USD forks, more rigid frame, wider tyres, all amounts to better stability and a more planted feel.

My first bike was a mito, and i'm 1.9m. It was alright, got used to the size of the bike. But yeah like what DeusEx says, you've gotta treat them with love. I knew that parts would cost more, but had disposable income to maintain the bike. If you want an italian bike you'd better do research on them and know what to look out for.

My gf's first bike was an '05 RS125, so i've had plenty of seat time with both the mito and rs125. The rs is a little more comfy for me, maybe because of the better wind protection from the front fairing. Geometry-wise the rs125 is also more flickable.

Those who risk nothing, do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.

For me, if i were to change to class 2, i wouldnt buy a class 2a bike at all cos all you have to do is buy a class 2B bike, ride it for 2 years and then change to to a class 2 bike. It saves alot of money this way. But If you want to ride all three classes of bikes. I recommend you get a 2nd hand cheap 2B bike, then change to a 2nd hand S4 then finally a 1st hand class 2 bike.
