Buy with bike:-

Once both bike are under 1 ownership (you), you can transfer plates yourself with LTA directly. From what i know its 1k from bike A to bike B. Probably another 1k from bike B to bike A.

 

Buy without bike :-

You have to get his bike transfered to your name, so you "own" both both at the same time, then do a swop at LTA yourself. If you find it lecheh, transfer both bike ownership to shop they do the swop, then transfer back the bikes to their respective owners. (of course the shop admin fees still applies.. and god knows how much)

 

The idea is with both bikes under the same ownership is required to swop. Since the plate "belongs to your shop, the best bet (might not the cheapest) is to go back to them out of courtesy.

 

The above mentioned was dated in 2005 year end. They might have changed the rule of swopping from an exisiting plate to a new bike. Heard that they only allow swopping of existing plate to new bikes, and the new bke no.plate gos to the existing bike.

 

Alternatively, you can drop LTA a call

This is the best bet !

1st to be able to get his plate, you must transfer the bike to your name.

To be able to transfer, you need valid insurance. So after buy insurance, proceed to LTA to transfer to your name. Once both bike under your name, do a swop of plate. Then cancel insurance means they refund you maybe 80% of pro-rated premium....lose on insurance.

 

Trick here...Get the guy to lay-up his bike. Pay ard $6 only. You can transfer lay-up bike W/O insurance. This will save you more money than lose on insurance.

 

After transfer of both bikes to your name, To transfer plate one way is $1300.

 

Bike A - 1234

Bike B - 5678

You want to become

Bike B - 1234 ($1300)

Bike A - 5678 ($1300)

They count transfer 1-way is $1300 , mutual 2 way swop is $2600

 

On top , you pay seller on agreed amount for his plate separate pay to him

 

ITS DAMN EXPENSIVE unless new bike . PUT old plate on new bike is $100

But I experienced, my NCB cannot be used on 2 bikes the same time, unlike cars. So ended almost paid S$2k++ for 2 bikes at 1 go.

 

But renewing/applying insurance yourself (my was NTUC) gets you another 5% off

Yesh you are able to get the OEM nuts from Hong Leong, Automachinery or Autocycle. do a search in yellowpages and their addresses/tel will pop up.

 

If you are save $$/waiting time (They sometimes do no stock up parts that no one buys). Just dismantle any of the remaining 3 nuts, and bring it to a screw shop, and buy the equivalent. You can't see those nuts when fitted though.

i think its NCD lah... not NCB (nahbey-cee-bai)

NCD = no claim discount

 

NTUC used to have direct discount of 5% but they have scrapped this 5% since Feb or Mar this year. So now the maximum discount u can get is only 20%NCD + 5% loyalty discount.
