I experienced same thing with my phantom 200 b4.. I guess perhaps that occurs when u pump ur bike until too full and it probably might have overflowed ur carb.. I'm guessing that might be the cause.. For me I juz let the engine run so that the fuel is used up.. juz my 2 cts.. sorie if i'm wrg..

Actually i encounter it 3 times in my one year ride. this 3 times onli recently.

i notice that the battery also affect the kick start.

first 2 time when the battery is real weak. but after i changed it. it seems to recover till last week. it fail on me again.

maybe it's the engine oil. so i juz changed yesterday. now need to pray it does not happen again.

first time - push the bike for 1km, then after tat it suddenly able to kick start

2nd time - wait for 10 mins to be able to start

3rd time - even after 15 mins still cant start. but next morning can start

juz hope it dont happen again.

My colleague taught me this. When you have difficulty starting, pull open the choke, then SLOWLY pull the throttle until you reach the maximum limit and release slowly.

Afterwards, try starting the bike again. :thumb:

btw... i'm not sure if phantom 150 has a fuel tap.

if yes, turn it off during top ups.

anyway the steps to start flooded carb is... (at least thats what i'm taught).

1) Turn fuel tap and ignition off.

2) Kickstart the bike 5-10 times... (bike will attempt to start but wont start.

3) then twist throttle fully... and kickstart the bike 10-15 more times.

4) Lastly, turn ignition on, fuel tap on and kick start.

lao jiaos please correct me if i'm wrong.

i think you pump to full already...

try not to pump till the max level. cos when you park your bike at side stand, the fuel will 'overflow' causing the problem of unable to start bike...

yeah very true.. avoid pumping it to e max.. could be u're experiencing overflow.. Refugee method could actually work.. but for me when i experienced this prob, my fuel tap i set to on, ignition and engine to off.. then kick start it 5 - 7 times.. after that switch on ignition and engine and give it a good kick..:thumb:

the battery won't effect the start bro.. could be ur spark plug too..:)

how does fuel overflow affect the bike such that it cannot start? anyway it is best if you pump petrol on side stand hmmm...

a overflow fuel might wet ur spark plug. hence cannot start. either that is when ur carb is overflow. cannot start maybe u jus wait awhile for the little overflow petrol to evaporate. i don't believe in kicking start for 10-15 times. i feel it provide no help.

Phantom 150 is a 2 stroke bike, what has a good or bad battery got to do with starting it?

The magneto sends the current to the coil to initiate the spark when you kick start the bike, unlike 4 stroke which require the battery to start..

1)Check your carb, wash it make sure all the tiny jets in the carb are not choked.

2) check your fuel lines, fuel ****, make sure petrol is flowing smoothly.

3) check your ignition coil and make sure you got spark from plug (remove plug and earth one end to bike) when you crank the kick starter.

4) check your plug cable, plug cap to plug for loose parts ( current leakage causes bad starts)

if after pumping full tank cannot start, try switching off the fuel **** 1st, open your throttle all the way and kick start, then if start liao, just ride your bike with the fuel **** off 1st to use finish the petrol in your carb, halfway riding when engine about to die liao then on the fuel ****....

Normally, that's how i do to handle carb overflow. thought by planet ah chong... good method.

the prob shd b carb overflow. when carb overflow, b it 2 stroke or 4 stroke bike, definitely will have a prob on the initial start. reason is too much fuel n too little air to make the initial combustion to start off the engine. after which, the batt will supply power to the spark plugs to constantly produce spark for the combustion.

so its about getting rid of the extra fuel in the combustion chamber. electric start bikes is straight forward, just press the ignition a few times without throttling, until the engine start up then blow out the remaining gases. for kick start bike, i'm not too sure cos i never own any 2 stroker so cannot comment.
