I remember when I was in primary 6, I actually played truant twice because I went to watch this movie at the old Lee Kong Chian cinema in Toa Payoh. I had a huge, major crush on the heroine, actress Helen Slater. So I went to watch it twice just so I can see her on the big screen. After the movie, went back home and showed my sister my ticket stub. She went and pautoh to my mum and as a result, my mum beat the crap out of me for playing truant... :sian:

Movie Review On 'The Fast And The Furious : Tokyo Drift'

If you like fast cars, gorgeous Asian chicks and heart thumping speed, then this movie is for you. The movie tells the story of an American kid, Sean (the actor Lucas Black reminds me of a younger Jason Statham of 'The Transporter' fame), who is sent off to live with his military father in Tokyo after he got into trouble for illegal car racing in America. In Tokyo, he was introduced to the art of drifting, courtesy of the Yakuza chief's nephew, DK (Drift King). It pains my heart to see Sean thrashed a sportscar loaned to him by DK's business partner, Han. For thrashing Han's car, Sean is now his stooge as a way to pay him back for the damages. It is also through Han that Sean finally mastered the art of drifting for a rematch with DK.

This movie is a tad different from its two predecessors. Where the two previous movies are about race cars and speed, this movie has both of that plus an added bonus - drifting. It is thrilling to see the cars turn corners by drifting. Look out especially for the high speed car chase through the busy streets of Tokyo as the cars drift and weave in and out of traffic. The plot of a gaijin (an outsider) from a nobody to becoming the next DK on another nation's soil and beating the Japanese at their own game, is a tad unbelievable and laughable to me. Just like Tom Cruise becoming a better samurai than his adversary in 'The Last Samurai'. Though the storyline is wack, just watch this movie for the fast paced action and the cars cos the real stars of this movie are the cars. Even the soundtrack 'The Fast And The Furious - Tokyo Drift' by the Teriyaki Boyz is one catchy number that can get you to singing along or dancing on the floor. It is interesting how the fusion of the gamelan, the techno beat, the rap and the Japanese accent singing girls all make up one great song. Plus, watch out for a guest appearance by a blockbuster star from another action packed movie, wanting to race the new DK towards the end of the movie. I thought that was a nice touch by the screenwriters... :thumb:

Saving Private Ryan was OK for me. As for Black Hawk Down, I bought the VCD but couldn't bring myself to watch it until the end. Watched the first 20 minutes only and then switched off. Too much talking and the subject matter bored me... :sian:

'Only The Strong' stars Mark Dacascos whom I think is a very good looking and muscular martial arts actor. If you like 'Only The Strong', then check out his other movies which I love, 'Crying Freeman' and 'Drive'... :thumb:

Movie Review On 'Dark Fields'

'Never judge a book by its cover' rings true for the movie 'Dark Fields'. With a clever packaging cover (the hand of a man holding a meat hook, a dark foreboding huge old house with a woman flashing a torchlight walking towards the killer) and a commendable quote, 'The most terrifying movie experince of the decade', you would be forgiven into thinking that it is a great horror movie. Nothing can be so far away from the truth. This movie is so amateurishly shot that you would think it was done by kids playing with their videocam. The story begins with 5 friends on their way to a concert in another US state. Somehow or other (typical situation), they got lost and went to a dilapidated farmhouse in the middle of nowhere to look for gas when their gas ran low (going to a far away place and they never bother to top up their gas first :slapforehead: ) Anyway to cut the story short, there is a craze, maniacal killer who went on a butchering spree, killing the kids in turns. This movie is worst than a B-grade horror movie. The acting is so bloody stiff that the actors sound like they made up their lines as they went along. The killer looks dumb in a jumpsuit with long, unkempt hair covering his face. The plot sucks big time cos way too cliche and the horror and suspense factors are basically nil. Of all the B-grade horror movies I have watched, this movie is the crappiest of the lot. Don't even bother to consider watching this movie. You will just waste away 1 hour and 20 minutes of your life for nothing... :sian:

I bought my copy of the VCD at Sengkang Esso petrol station for $12.90. Helen Slater was a hot looking girl then. :btw: have you seen her other movie, 'The Secret Of My Success' with Michael J. Fox? Now I'm searching for that DVD and 'My Cousin Vinny' starring Ralph Macchio and Joe Pesci. Hilarious, thinking man's movie. Any idea where I can get my hands on these DVDs???

Movie Review On 'Click'

For a comedy starring funnyman, Adam Sandler, 'Click' is surprisingly funny one moment and sad the next. It tells the story of Michael Newman who is given a universal remote control that is capable of skipping the crummy parts of his life and fast forward to the good parts. The only glitch is, he has no recollection or memory of the events that unfold when he skipped time to get to the future. Being a workaholic, he immerses himself with work in order to get promoted, neglecting his family in the process. He had to learn the hard way in order to realize that his family is the most important factor in his life. Though this movie is a comedy, the message present is by no means a joke. In today's modern world, people work their asses off so as not to be left behind in the rat race in a dog eat dog world. They tend to forget that when they have a family of their own, family should ALWAYS comes first. After all, money lost can be earned back but time wasted is lost forever. This movie sure made me think of my priorities in life with regards to my family. Definitely a movie to watch for all you workaholics with families out there... :thumb:

Movie Review On 'Mission : Impossible 3'

Tom Cruise is back again as secret agent Ethan Hunt in Mission : Impossible 3. This time, he has to save his wife (yes, he got married) from the diabolical villain, Owen Davian (played brilliantly by Academy Award winner, Philip Seymour Hoffman) by stealing a secret weapon known as 'Rabbit Foot' from the Chinese in Shanghai City. The action as usual is exhilirating. Lots of explosions, sophisticated gadgets, high risk stunts and the usual Mission : Impossible plot twist where not everything is as it seems and agent Ethan Hunt will get stabbed in the back by someone he trusts. Maggie Q provides the eye candy in this Mission : Impossible installment. Even though the storyline and stunts are intriguing, I still prefer Mission : Impossible 2 over this movie. Maybe it is due to me being an avid bikes fan so bike wheelies plus stoppies stunts in Mission : Impossible 2 have won me over. Considering that secret agent Ethan Hunt is married, I doubt that there will be a Mission : Impossible 4 movie. Married life just does not go hand in hand with secret agent work unless the scriptwriters plan to change the Mission : Impossible franchise into movies like 'Spy Kids' or 'True Lies'. All in all, Mission : Impossible 3 has retained all the elements that have made the Mission : Impossible movies into blockbuster hits. This movie is a definite must watch... :thumb:
