Wow, the 2008 CBR1000RR comes with a quickshifter, some form of anti-slip (traction control) and weighs 390 lbs (176kg) dry???

It's getting more and more interesting.

It's in the Dec. 2007 issue of Motor Cyclist page 13. Quote" And the new ignition Interrupt Control System makes up shifts quicker and easier by taking the load of the gears as the rider moves the shifter, Yes, you read that right: This is the first production motorcycle with a quick shifter."

" this may finally be the lightweight Honda fans have been asking for. Just 390 lbs dry and 438 lbs wet campared to a wet GSXR at 457lbs might make it the lightest 1000 yet."

Re Traction Control, I was talking to one of the Honda guys on the Honda stand at the UK Bike show yesterday (26th Nov). He said the 2008 Fireblade (at least the UK model) will have a form of traction control called "Anti Slip" fitted as standard.

It doesn't reply on front wheel speed for traction control (as the front wheel could be off the ground). It compares engine acceleration measured at the crank and the current throttle/engine torque. I guess it must calculate or know the gear ratio and therefore knows the wheel acceleration. For a given engine torque and gear ratio, there will be an expected bike acceleration - too much acceleration = wheel slip (or rider jumped off the back) and therefore engine torque will be reduced to control wheel spin. This is apparently they way it's done on the Honda superbikes.

Can't remember which UK bike mag I read, it already states the 08 Blade will not have traction control. :sian:

Thanks for sharing, looks like you had a good time.

1st test report of the 08 Blade is out from MCN.

First test report on the 2008 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade

By Trevor Franklin

17 December 2007 09:23

In the principality of Doha, Qatar’s Losail Circuit is the venue for the launch of the new 2008 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade. MCN’s Chief Road Tester Trevor Franklin is at the circuit testing the new Blade. Here’s his first comments about Honda’s flagship sports bike.

‘The fast flowing nature of Losail Circuit highlights the Blade’s new attitude, the bike is far, far more agile and balanced than the old model meaning it delivers corner speed like a Supersport 600. The engine also has attitude while it retains it’s tractability in the lower to mid range RPM it delivers the goods above this area to give the bike explosive performance. But make no mistake this is no hooligan bike unless you want it to be.

Wonder what tis might mean? :cheeky:

I think they meant it's still the Jessica Alba or Angelina Jolie of superbikes. o_O

Strange that the video reviews so far have not mention about the quickshifter. Anyone else read anything on the quickshifter?

On Trevor's comments on the 08 Blade, I was somewhat reminded of the time when I move from the 04 to the 06 Blade. Everything felt the same except the 06 has got more pickup. Everything felt all too familiar. :dozed:

This video gives a nice general overview.

Contrary to what I said earlier on, the guy on the 08 blade video says it has a 'slipper clutch'. Wonder which is which now ?

:slapforehead:

'slipper clutch' is cfm on the RR8 worr.as seem in the usa honda web.

but the "traction control" were not mention lor. :)
