why no go the cheaper way? instead of changing the whole side stand just weld metal block at the base of the stand?

Yea i agree cos mostly people go for extension of the stand. buy new one will cost you a bomb.

Think buy from Boon Siew will cost you at least 400 plus.... Sengkwang or most motor shop will wield only cos the stand very hard to come by as all bikes need it.

btw any shops to recommend to do up 2 to 3 colours paintwork at reasonable price?

HL cycle price seems to be resonable

How much would a paintwork like that cost?

Any brothers have experience to share?

I would love to spray paint to stock colours.

U have to cut off the stopper on ur OEM throttle sleeve

Thanks, but are you able to illustrate further on where/which is the throttle sleeve?

Cool mods. Now if only the front fork could be changed into the USD fork!

Yes you can! Seen it in some philippines cb4 website a s4 with a usd fork. If im nt wrong, the fork was taken frm a cbr6. But alooot u have to think about before doing such projects. *faints*

Hi guys, may I know if the following mod is feasible? Wondering why nobody wanna do cafe mod here (and everywhere else). I think an s4's frame seems modable. I got the following pic off the net, but it's only a mockup.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UPCYzQ0qMVM/TZrWRlEv0VI/AAAAAAAAA8I/P0DOLlbau80/s1600/Before.jpg

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1SBTiDFH0s0/TZrWNn1sVfI/AAAAAAAAA8A/lGiUdYckyIg/s1600/After.jpg

Although I do agree with any impending discussions that it doesn't have the "classic" look, but alas it looks good as a modern cafe what. Lol. Read: commando 941; ducati sport 1000s

Ok, I'm keen, I've found a CB400 donor, I know nothing about it ,I thinks its a 98 or something?

I know nothin about CB400's! I may have picked completely the wrong thing?

So far the plans are

Strip down.

Powder coat the frame

New brake lines

All new fluids

New brake pads

New clutch

Suspension rebuild

Chop rear sub frame

Cafe racer seat

Chop tank - flatter top

New/tune carbs

Air filters

Clip on bars - mounted below top triple tree

Quick throttle

Chain and sprockets

Exhaust

Paint (Honda red/silver with checkered stripe??)

Good tyres

Then the plan is to run it at PG for a laugh...

Hopefully buy the bike this week and start the strip down... I'm going to need lots of help from this forum!

Cheers

It doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is more power!

i dont see any issues with:

1) brake lines

2) clutch

3) air filters, unless you are taking about open pod or relocation etc.

4) quick throttle

5) chain and sprockets

6) exhaust

7) paint

8) tyres

9) suspension rebuild

all these are not difficult to get.

ride your bike down to your trusted mech.

now comes the troublesome parts, frame, subframe, tank, seat and making sure your clipons wont hit the tank.

all the above will be settled. ask them to strip it down to bone, you take the frame for powder coat. some workshops can do it for you.

offhand i can only think of 1 shop that is willing to chop your subframe and just maybe do a cafe racer seat for you.

measure the diameter of your forks, source for clipons, if you cant find, drop me a pm.

i suggest you ask the shop that's going to do your tank whether clipons will work. they might have better ideas for you.

have fun modding. damn i love modding bikes.

After awhile I learned about why s4 aren't used as base bikes.

1) they are too wide and bulky for a cafe racer

2) cafe racers don't usually don oil-cooled motors

3) twins are preferred for power and weight saving

But I am really looking forward to the end of your project! Do share your progress, I may start a project too after I find a suitable bike :thumb:

yup i am quite sure we are referring to the same shop. haha.. they are known to take up these kind of projects. now come to think of it, i thought of another 3 shops which might take up the project as well.

not a big fan of cafe racers, but i am still interested to know singkiwi's progress and findings!

Hey Teraboi,

thanks for the inspiration, the picture is what did it for me, I've been thinking about it for a while, but the picture pushed me over the edge.

couple of quick questions

is the super four oil cooled? didn't realise?

I also ride a twin so i definately get the appeal of them but many of the Cafe Racers are inline four based bikes, CB750 seems to be a real classic, CB400 four is popular too, do you really think the S4 is too big? what about with a chopped tank and new seat? maybe the next project should be a monster 900?

regarding power, we should definately be able to squeeze alot more power out of a inline 4, from what Ive read the S4 is 52HP (so 40+ RWHP) it's not in the initial plan but I'd definately be looking for more. not worried about this yet, but I'd say after the first track session...

Cheers

It doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is more power!
