Hey guys, how you all doing? Haven't been around for a long time but this is the first place that I thought of when I met with an accident earlier today. Wondering if you guys can help me.

 

Basically I was turning left and so was the car in front, the car stopped suddenly because it saw some oncoming traffic from the right, which I didn't see. I was looking to the right, and hence didn't see the car in front stopping. Went straight into the car's rear bumper, which is dented now but no scratches. No injuries to my bike, I think I twisted my ankle a bit while trying to prevent my/my bike's fall - didn't feel it then or on my ride back home but beginning to fell it now.

 

The driver agreed to settle outside insurance at 300$. We took pictures, exchanged information and left. Now when I called him before transferring money, he says maybe need to change bumper so maybe more than 300$. I told him go decide first whether need to change bumper or not, and how much is the cost. And that if cost>300, I want to clear by Insurance, if cost

 

1. Do you guys think I should make a police report to protect myself?

2. Should I clear by insurance or settle outside?

3. Is there anything else that you guys suggest I should do to protect my liability?

 

I think it's my fault, though learning from what some riders shared earlier I didn't admit that to him.

 

This is the exact reason why I always advocate riding in the side of the lane or lane splitting. Riding in the center of the lane is just a matter of time when you will hit someone or someone will hit you from behind.

 

I think that guy initially thought not much damage so can just push the bumper for free and make a quick buck from you. I think later he changed his mind and wants to make more money. I would say tell him to claim the insurance.

did you 2 write it down black and white to have it settle on your own?

how bad is the damage?

cause i think if he wants to change bumper for a small dent then might be trying to claim more money from you.

btw did he report to idac?

every rider have your own preference

there's pros and cons riding in riding the the side of the lane and lane splitting

to me i find that if you ride at the side of the lane,drivers will love to cut into the lane and force you out

and they don't care if you have any where else to go to

also with riding at the side and lane splitting makes a rider much much much less visible and easier to get into blind spots of other vehicles

but then again lane splitting is a biker's privilege...

Yea - thanks for the tip - changed the picture. The black and white part is what I missed, which is why I called him before transferring the money. Even when I saw it I thought it is very shallow and on the spot we didn't even talk about new bumper - he said just blow out and readjust. When I called him later, that's when he raised the talk about new bumper.

I don't think he reported to IDAC, atleast not on the spot.

Should I be calling the police/IDAC?

 

1st thing in the morning call your insurance tell them of this and ask for advise

did you 2 write down in black and white about settling it on your own with the cash amount?

as far as i remember if idac report is not made then insurance companies will not cover the claim

Hehe alrighttt. Don't think i like redlining if that's what it means. LOL. sounds like hurting my bike only. Haha. I prefer relax riding and is often found cruising at left lane at about 50km/h till i notice im being tailgated by cars and only then i put on some speed hehe. But sometimes on expressway if road empty n dry and well lit. Will whack ABIT.

Oren i duno how old u are but i think u will surely make a gd mother one day. hee.

No need worry too much about me i think. I have been holding onto a drivers license at the age of 17 in msia and i daresay i drive pretty safely! I know ride n drive not the same but i guess it helps at the road experience part!

Alright. Think i will hang on to stock for the time being. And when the time comes that i feel like my bike isn't giving me what i want i will tell u guys and u guys can recommend something from there.

Hey guys, I will be shifting my house from AMK to Pasir Ris, next thursday. Anybody knows cheap movers? There are like 6-7 carton boxes. I dont need any manpower. I can load the luggage myself. Just need the transport. I think a light truck will do. Any suggestions welcome.

I used one of those big cabs, you know like mini vans with 7 seats ? I booked one of those, outside peak hours, to move my belongings when I only had a few boxes. Worst case, it will cost you 4 trips : GO THERE says it's $12 per way so no more than $48 if you do it by yourself, half less if you have someone with you who can take a second cab or have the second cab driver follow the first one..

yes in theory he needs to do it

but if he does not and in the end your insurance don't want to cover

you will have to come out cash

the worst case senario is you have to pay cash to him

from the pic you post i think it will not come to the point of changing bumper

Glad you're ok, take care of that ankle, these are very fragile ! (ok, totally sound like a mum.. dammit.)(yhang, stop laughing, thank you !)

 

Clearly the guy wants to chop you like a baby carrot and chew you with his salad at lunch !

The bump is SO light... There is no denying that you are iat fault -> you hit him from behind, unless you can explain that he stopped suddenly for no reason, there's no doubt who's at fault here.

He knows or someone would've told him, so he's going for the kill like revhappy and La Roux say. (yes, my musical references can sometimes be puzzling, I know)

 

Since nothing was written, call him tomorrow and see if he wants to settle for a few hundred. If yes, meet with him, write it down and you both sign off it, give him the money and be happy you're not injured.

 

If he changes his mind or pushes for more money, say you spoke to friends and they told you a bump like that can;t be more than 300 so if he wants to go this way, then you prefer to settle it properly and do a Police report etc. Sometimes people just don;t want to bother with paperwork, or for all you know he might not have that great of an insurance.

 

Does he have all your particulars ? License plate and IC ? (I'm just saying... I hate people who go back on their words, so it would be a good lesson for him if you went MIA..)

 

Good luck, it's a good experience to have. Almost happened to me a couple of times, since then, I just slow down first, see that the guy in front has stopped as well, then I check - worst case scenario the car behind me rams my bike.. (Which shouldn't happen if you slow down early enough)

Also this can happen when you change lane during slow traffic, one second you're checking your blind spot, the next one the car in front of you jam breaks and you kiss the rear bumper

I would love to do it if it is less than 50$. I have class 3. Do you have any contacts for renting a light truck or van?

 

Edit: I think a Renault Kangoo kind of vehicle will be perfect to drive. This link says 65$ not bad.

The boxes are not that big, like 2ftX2ft each. May be 2 normal taxis will do, if they allow me to put those boxes on the rear seats as well. Not sure if taxi drivers will allow that.

Dun whack lah just reach ur destination smooth and safe. Our bike cannot whack 1, there are cases of internal item wearing out fast due to whacking. So just ride it like a 200cc super4 safety gear always.

Sometimes like squeeze to the front during red traffic lights. Then when green ah, u in the middle of two cars. If u dun fast abit ah. They seem to tailgate u or somehow dangerous. Sometimes not just wanna whack. Sometimes. Just happens to have a need for speed.
