i already overhauled my p180 ug3, 3 times and still i dun feel like selling it(maybe theres is a feeling, but still....). now the cost of overhaul is upped $1450 instead of $1442. i wont be surpised if its upped again when i collect the bike later.

which reminds me, author seemed quiet after his overhaul..... i wonder where hes gone....

No problems for parts which ever model of pulsar you end up getting.

I intend to sell mine (P200) in June July when I get the 200NS god willing.

It turned 2 years old this week. So 8 years left of COE. Everything in the engine recently checked rechecked and happily changed if anything that looked like a scratch or wear was spotted.

Bike is washed every week and turtle waxed until I can see her smiling back at me.

I intend to sell it for 4.5k maybe 5k depending on COE at that time.

So this is to give you an idea.

With Sinnob sprocket, spare brand new stock chain, tyres almost brand new (aftermarket ones), and a few goodies here and there (air filter protec, free rain coat, free bungee cords, free EO newly changed, and newly changed front an rear brake pads + maybe a free open face helmet).

So this is to give you an idea..

Important is to check the mileage, and listen to the engine, ask the owner what they fixed or serviced. If the owner takes care of the bike then that's a good price but if not.. :faint:

By the way, anyone knows the ritual to transfer a motorcycle's spirit into a new bike? Shadow and I want to stay together :shy:

Yeah definitely expect more after overhaul as there might unforseen replacement of parts that need changing.

Very difficult to let go of a Pulsar, especially a first bike.. Me it's only the financial reason that drives the separation: I can't afford nor justify having a second bike when there's only me who rides it. Doesn't make sense to keep a bike that's gonna spend most of its time on a parking lot...

Um can charge it for you while they work on your bike. Not exp, a few dollars I think

I can lend you my tender, so you can charge it overnight - whatsapp me to set up collection at bukit batok west mall and you can bring it back at the next btwo or something.

LAB sells batteries for 30-60 sgd, roughly should be less than 40 sgd, pretty good reviews from other riders

Now I realize, after buying my bike that if it is totally screwed up, then for fixing it, for the cost, the sky is the limit! I have already spent about 750$ on this bike without even opening the engine. I expect conservatively atleast another 500$ needed to do a top overhaul and change the clutch plates and starter motor(that is with trying to source parts from India).

I remember earlier in this forum we used make wild estimate that it could cost max 1k to overhaul, I think that is a very conservative figure. In my case I got the bike very cheap(just $1250, can you believe it ). I knew very well about its condition and the owner was honest to say that the bike was maintained terribly. The reason I still bought it is because, I needed something urgently and I wanted to experience the joy of taking the bike to UM and getting things fixed. Yeah I actually enjoy it :).

Some of the individual pulsar parts can cost 200$++, for eg change starter motor, 200+, change meter 200+, change clutch plates 150+, the magneto assembly 200+ we are not even talking about opening the engine yet. So I find it funny how people value used bikes, usually the prices dont vary much about couple of 100$. I feel if a bike is in really terrible terrible condition it should be valued at 0 or even -ve. Because fixing it could easily 2k or more.

Keep the pulsar for daily commute and get another bike for those wild moments.

For me I rather keep two as it spreads the wear and tear. Ideally if you can have a bike which you totally am in love with the looks and yet gives you great FC, then it's the perfect bike.

A perfect bike to me would give me least Rider Fatigue, great FC, good looks, and massive storage.

I define Rider Fatigue as riding through heavy traffic and over half hour and getting off the bike and not feeling like you were in traffic at all.

Are you very sure its the battery? There could be many other things. What are the symptoms? When you try to crank don't you hear sound atleast once? As far as I know, even a perfectly working battery cannot be cranked more than 3 times continuously. You need to turn off the ignition and then try again. If you are sure about the battery, then there could be reasons why it is not charging. You may have to get the charging system checked. Is it dry(maintenance free) or the wet(electrolyte) type? LAB sells the wet type for 30$ Yuasa brand. UM sells Shinko brand, dry type for 45$. If you are in doubt better to take it UM as they will check the whole thing thoroughly

woaaah thats quite a sum, as my income is not fixed . im only 18 but still i can manage, but shocking to hear repairs up to 1.4, Btw i have concerns about bike shops saying about the pulsar leaking top block. will the p200 experience this problem too ?

Posted

i heard from people dunno true or not but pulsar have this problem of leaking top block or something go to do with the engine that always leak, will the p200 experience this often too ? or MAYBE from what i can conclude when running lean, it heats more and thus more wear and tear ? is it ? maybe the gasket or whatever i dont knowo_O

Which shop(s) may i know?

need to be specific...

are they well verse in the bike?

able to strip out the engine parts and put back with ease?

sometimes at UM you will see other bike shops calling to ask for help on technical issues on pulsars at their shop...

this said, i must admit there are shops with good mechs who knows what they are doing with pulsars as well...

why i ask this is cause there are lots of shops or riders who say a lot of things...

they say this bad that bad, here leak there leak...

but when you find out the story behind why bad/leak then your eye balls will roll upwards and say no wonder...

take for example at UM found out owners bring their bike in with piston jam and rusty chain and complain pulsar not good...not like this in india(sorry no offence to indians, but lots of the riders are indians who complain about stuff not working)...when find out more found out that they ride their bike without changing their EO for almost 10k, never oil chain, tighten chain for more than 5k etc etc...

1 phrase to say about this...

"Rider problem or Bike problem?"

just to share one instance this uncle came over to talk to me while NGAT was servicing my bike and say "your bike got do extra things ar...this bike can't even travel to KL...use in singapore still can...no power not much use lah..." i look at him and replied "I know of pulsar riders who ride to thailand, who rides up to KL weekly and 1 who is now on a 6 country SEA tour on her P200(Shadow)...all from singapore..."

he stunned and keep quiet walk back to his bike and wait for his turn...

erm. im not quite sure, maybe u can help me diagnose haha.

1) voltage too low to start bike, can hear "krek-krek-krek" not the usually " revvy " sound

2) if after push start ride long distance then still can start la

Apart from adding to the looks and muscle to the front of the Pulsar 200 NS, the perimeter frame allows for sharp, nimble and confident handling along with better cornering stability due to higher lateral stiffness.

The Pulsar 200 NS chassis comprises of a steel perimeter frame and a rectangular tube section swing arm that offers higher torsional rigidity

The low slung central muffler & the tightly packaged Nitrox mono shox ensures low & central CG position.

The almost 50:50 weight distribution helps in effortless maneuvering curves and substantially improving high speed and straight line stability

The Pulsar 200NS is loaded with technology that has boosted performance.

Sitting in the saddle takes you straight to the next generation of biking.

The revolutionary Triple spark technology provides unprecedented performance, efficiency and lower emissions. And when coupled with the 4-valve engine - provides better power, throttle response and pick-up at all engine speeds.

Keeping this power mill running smoothly is a Liquid cooling system that ensures longer engine life, smoother engine sound and no power fading or overheating.

Add to this is a 6-speed gearbox and you are in biking heaven.

The Pulsar 200NS manages to dish out peak power of 23.5 Ps @ 9500 rpm and a healthy torque of 18.3 Nm @ 8000 rpm.

It boasts of a power to weight ratio of 162 Ps per ton! No wonder it can accelerate from 0-60 in 3.61 sec and 0 – 100 in 9.83 sec

The NS in the name stands for “Naked Sports”.

One look at the Pulsar 200NS justifies the claim that it is one of the best looking street fighters around.

The body has been sculpted with careful attention to detail - from the foot pegs and the grips on the handle bar to the backlit switches.

Every aspect of the bike has been crafted to ensure that the aggressive and muscular look of the Pulsar is married with the next generation of motorcycling design.

The upright riding position on the Pulsar 200NS makes it perfect for city riding and also for a spin on the twisties.

4-Valve

http://mypulsar.com/pulsar2012/images/4valve.jpg

The 4-valve engine facilitates induction of more quantity of charge (air-fuel mixture) and complete evacuation of all burnt gases.

This results in increased engine performance – power, throttle response and pick-up at all engine speeds.

4-valve engines can be revved to much higher RPMs, without any engine strain, allowing the rider to experience superior performance.

Liquid Cooling

http://mypulsar.com/pulsar2012/images/liquid-cooling.jpg

The high performance Pulsar 200 NS engine is kept cooled using liquid coolant, which is better at heat dispension in the engine as compared to an air cooled engine.

Liquid cooling ensures that there is no power fading due to overheating and results in longer engine life and the coolant provides for a muffling effect which smoothens engine noises even at high RPMs
