Hey all,

I'm a newbie here and I need some help.

I wanna get a bike but I dunno what model is better .

I got a tight budget. Around 2.2k. 2.5k max. (Include CoE + insurance, etc) Looking for 2nd hand haha, since I so broke.

Currently looking @ :

a) Honda Phantom TA150

b) Honda Phantom TA200 (which one of the Phantoms is cheaper/better?)

c) Yamaha RXZ (I heard this bike is damn cheap?maintain oso cheap?)

I really feel like getting a Phantom 200, since its 4 stroke so maintenance is cheaper? Plus I think cruisers look cool. But from wad I see maybe cannot afford sia.

Please any lao jiaos around to give some advise ma?

Would suggest TA200 for its low fuel consumption and easy-ride. No 2T required and spare parts are easily available everywhere.

RXZ and TA150 are also similar but you would need to consider adding extra costs of 2T for these 2.

2T is 2 stroke oil to lubricate the piston.

Yeah, it's a oil to lubricate the piston. To make things sound simpler, 2T is essential for 2 stroke engines. Cost range from $3 (carrefour) to $22+. If you're riding Phantom 150, don't think you need to use high end 2t, maybe a $10 one which can last for bout 2 weeks.

Make sure to set aside some money. No point getting a bike but in the end no money for servicing and repair.

Honda NSR125R, Kawasaki ZX400-L9, Yamaha YZF-R1 2001, Yamaha YZF-R1 2006, Suzuki GSX-R1000 K2

Hiya, welcome to riding. :p

$2.5k is a very decent budget for a TA200 Phantom. However, I think that as a new rider, your insurance would not be low, call up Mitsui and NTUC to get some idea of the insurance rates.

The TA200 is a cheap and easy maintenance bike and IMHO is a good first bike. It is also low and hence can be flat-footed which is important for a new rider. Scout around in the Garage Sales for a bike, get a feel of the market price for a TA200 of different years. Try to get a riding friend who knows something about bikes to view a bike with you.

The GOLDEN RULE is never ever rush into buying a bike, not even when it seems like a deal.

The ULTIMATE GOLDEN RULE is RIDE SAFE. Being on a bike, using public roads entail responsibilities.

But don’t forget to have some fun …. :)

Cheers

Hie bro, im a personal user of the TA200. Scan ard on the used bikes for sale thread and u can see some gems. U should be able to get a decent Ta200 for $1500+- plus ur insurance and everything total should be ard $2k. The extra $200 u have can be used for simple servicing, change sparplug for 7 bucks, engine oil for ard 15 bucks. The rest for u to pump in petrol for 1 or 2 months.

I want to see the world and i'm pretty sure the world wants to show a little something to me.

not much...less than 100 i think......for a 1.5k bike here, shop would charge u mebbe ard 2k. Thats a rough guess lah.

point.

no money no talk.

Just because you have that 2k, and a bike falls within that price range, it doesnt mean that you can easily take care of it. you will need to stand by money for petrol, servicing, and to bribe the little motorcycle gremlins hiding inside so that they wont blow your bike up.

Even if you are thinking about taking up hire purchase agreement, in addition to the funds needed to mantain the bike you also have to pay a monthly installment untill the term is up. if not, bye bye bike.

all that said, and assuming that by 2k, you are reffering to the machine price of a bike and ignoring the COE and Insurance...

I would advice you to get a YBR. Its not a power horse, its a mule. A bullet proof mule.

Bajaj Pulsar 180 - UG3 (2007 - )

Suzuki GSXR-400 (2008 - 2009)

Piaggio Vespa GT 200L (2009 - 2011)

Yamaha FZ S1 '05 (2011 - )

i would suggest u get either a second hand wave or ta200

both are 4stroke , meaning u don need 2t and the spares are available everywhere

wave i believe got a even better milage as it's very light and small engine

on the other hand ta200 is more comfortable as it's cruiser style running on a 2b license full capacity of 200cc . but waste more fuel la.

IMHO, accumulate more cash n hand 1st & recce a bike at e same time... TA might be cheap but buying a 2nd hand bike might not be the best solution...

E.g. You buy a TA200 inclusive of everything S$2,500/=... BUT because it is an old bike, probs might occur at shorter intervals & worse still if engine prob & you might be spending more than you calculated & end up a cost of a new bike...

Insurance can be paid on monthly basis from NTUC & interest free... Road tax for small CC bikes is S$37 per half year...

With your cash in hand, you might wanna consider getting a newer bike & if you intend to ride long, den no rush on the installment... Sparks, wave would be a better choice cos at least they are newer than TA & consumption isn't tat bad either...

Alternatively you can choose to accumulate more COH (cash-on-hand) while searching more better bikes... Dun rush cos it might cause you to make a regretful decision.
