If you have the means to own 2 bikes, 1 for daily tpt (eg to and from work) and 1 for the weekends/special occasions (go up North, go to track etc), what would your 2 bikes be?

I'm interested to know your opinions since I'd like to work my way up to this scenario, even better would be to hear from the bros who are already doing this.

For me I would go for a Phantom (cheap/low maintenance/cruiser mentality/can put box and panniers/pillion can sit comfy with back rest) and

a Hayabusa/Ducati for the weekends (don't think I need to state the reasons for choosing those 2 beauties).

I used to be a car person. Then one day, I woke up and became a biker.

Ex rides:

Nissan Sunny 1.6

Nissan Cefiro 2.0

Honda CBR 150 R

Honda CBR 400 RR Fireblade

Current rides:

Yamaha 2008 YZF-R1

KIA Cerato Forte 1.6 Well OK sometimes a car comes in handy.

Have an old Phantom 150 for transport. Has been around for nearly 10 yrs. This is the last year for it. After that, I'm looking for a 4-stroke... maybe a Bajaj Pulsar.

Currently have an FZ1S for the big bike, use it daily sometimes, weekends mostly, and definitely for up North trips. Used to have an FZ6 before this. At one point also had a Super 4 and R1 (for track use) at the same time.

The key is to get a cheap, used transport bike, and preferably not pay instalments for it. That way you can reduce local fuel expenditure while still having your big bike around to play with.

last time i got a Spark135 and R1. one purely for transport, de other one for fun! haha. sold off my R1 cos not really worthed it.

my R1 1 month ride 1-2 times, oil tanker via JB 2nd link. pump to my spark135 for daily transport. 1 year ride like 20-30 times only including occassional track. insurance and road tax come up to bout 1.3k a year. do ur math u'll get ard $40-60 a day when i ride my R1. so sold it off.

den in de end got a SP (first love). cheap gd and fun. down side a bit ah beng la, but who cares. been loving 2 stroke since. : )

having a small bike for daily transport is wise if the other bike is a drinker but if u're young, the insurance costs for having 2 bikes may be too much justify the petrol cost that u save.

Haha... same here. I went to track once a month or once in 2 months. So rode the R1 for like 1 day a week. Since I always go out with my GF, and she hates pillioning on the R1, we mostly used the S4 for going M'sia eat or tour.

Phantom use to go to work. S4 for M'sia outing and tour. R1 sit at home bah long long. In the end, used as a 2nd link tanker for the Phantom if it's not going to track. :D

>>D.E.M - How was the experience of owning both a Super 4 and an R1?

Frankly, If I were to own an R1 or some other big bike, I wouldn't want to use it for daily transport. It's quite a hassle especially when you're dealing with the traffic in Singapore and of course all the traffic lights. Not to mention the cost. But the passion and interest to ride a big bike will always be there. So how do you bros cope with riding a big bike as your only ride?

I think if you are not a 4-wheels driver, you are already saving a lot of money that you can afford to live the 2-bike scenario. I used to be a car owner, but I've since given up my car, taken up the 2b licence and am now happily riding a 2b bike, but now I find that as a result of that, I have extra cash that was previously used to maintain the car. So, for me, giving up the car has enabled me to dream about owning a Class 2 bike.

I used to be a car person. Then one day, I woke up and became a biker.

The Phantom and Super 4 were fully paid for when I got the R1, so it wasn't all that bad. And the road tax and insurance renewal periods were separated by a couple of months between them. Also helped some.

As mentioned, the Phantom was always there. So it was actually 3 bikes for a 2 yr period. Phantom was for me to get to work.

The S4 was used by my GF for transport to work. At nights and on weekends, and 2-up eating trips and tours up North, also on the S4.

The R1 was my track bike. I used it for a couple of solo trips. And of course, it served as a 2nd-link fuel tanker for my Phantom. This bike is a TERRIBLE pillion experience. Cramped and hot. My GF hated to ride pillion on this bike, so we always ended up on the S4. I also HATED to ride this bike in town, it was damned hot, so I also preferred riding the S4 in town. :D

TBH, I didn't need the R1. Just itchy backside wanted to get a good trackday bike. So I owned it for 2 yrs, then sold it. Ended up selling the S4 too. Then I got an older model FZ6 to try out. Not so great. So sold it, and ended up with an FZ1.

I have a different POV. I don't believe in having transport + fun bike. For most riders, their dream will be some sort of Class2 bike. When I got my dream bike, I wanna be able to ride it every damn day that I can so I get the most kick & value for $$ that I paid for my dream. IMHO, it can't truly be a dream/fun bike if you find that riding it for transport is a pain.

Having a dream bike that I can only ride on weekends, is a no-no for me. I paid close to $20k for my Class2 bike, its fun to ride & I love it. Therefore, I'm gonna ride it every time I need to get on the road. Period.

quite agree with u :cheeky: when u own ur dream bike which is likely to be very expensive and u've spent so much time polishing it... u will want to ride it and be seen riding it. u won't want your colleagues to see u riding a small transport bike and then ask u "I thought u say u ride a R1 or sumthing?" It goes the same for owning a car, the reason why many car owners dun want to leave their cars at home and go public despite increasing fuel and erp costs.

i'm agree wit u guys,no such thing 2nd bike 4 me,especially 2b bike,

i had enough experience wit 2b bike and the impact as well.

big bike more safer in term of handling, braking and will absorb impact too.

quite weird if keep changing between class 2 and 2b,

I hate selling my bikes. So over the years, managed to accumulate 5...

XR400 - motard

XR250 - trail

CBR929 - track

EC250 - trail

NX650 - transport

Most of my bikes get ridden at most once a month. Collecting dust most of the time. But each ride reminds me why I like motorsports so much.

Needless to say, insurance and road tax quite expensive. But then again, you only live once.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator
